18.01.2022 Today is Jeans for Genes Day! This is a national fundraising event that’s very close to my heart. Growing up my family supported Jeans for Genes day each year - my Dad has Stargardt Disease - a generic eye disease which is the most common childhood macular condition. It meant that my dad lost his central vision and was legally blind by the time I was 7. We had a very real understanding of the effects of genetic conditions in our family, and my parents were very passionate abo...ut trying to help anyone else who hadn’t come out a winner of the genetic lottery. At Clever Bees Paediatric Occupational Therapy we regularly support a variety of charities and organisations throughout the year, but I’m very proud that today we’ve donated to help support the Children's Medical Research Institute to help find cures for children’s genetic diseases. With progr...ams available for all ages, your child can continue to grow while taking part in fun, ‘real world’ activities, including: Social Bots (Social Coding and Robotic Group) Speech Ninja Art-Tastic Expression Exploring Nature and Language Let's Grow with Lego (Lego Speech Pathology and OT group in Port Stephens) High Five Food Group Puppet Play Social SciKids (STEM group) Social Yoga Express Yourself (Drama group) Move Yourself (Dance group) All group programs align with our COVID-19 Safety Plan and ensure the health and wellbeing of attendees and staff members.

10.01.2022 Build your child’s language through of the use of Spot books! Say hi and bye to the animals while reading the book. Practising waving as you say "hi" and ..."bye-bye"! Name animals and say their sounds e.g. it’s a pig, oink oink, I can see a bird, tweet tweet. Answering yes and no questions - while you’re trying to find Spot, you can ask your little one where he is e.g. is Spot in the toy box? NO (shake your head!), did we find spot? YES (nod your head!). Prepositions (spatial concepts) such as in, on and under - use the flips to look in, on, and under e.g. "is Spot under the blanket?", "is Spot in the toy box?" You can use Spot books in SO many different ways to build your child's language skills. Use your child's Spot books to help them learn language and build their vocabulary today!

09.01.2022 Today is World Prematurity Day! At Clever Bees, we support lots of children who were born prematurely and their families. Children born prematurely can experience a number of medical and developmental challenges for years after they are born. Research has also shown that they can be extremely resilient (and determined) as a result of these challenges!! I was born at 28 weeks (weighing just 850g)! I saw an OT when I was little to help with my gross motor skill development. I l...oved my OT sessions, and it's why I became an OT!! My story really shaped my belief in each child's potential to achieve, and is part of the development of my personal value of positivity. I've included a picture of my parents holding me for the first time when I was a week old! Four years later my parents were blessed with their second miracle when my sister was born at 32 weeks (second picture of my mum, sister and I after she was born) - My sister is now an incredible teacher. 08.01.2022 2020 - we made it!! It’s been a massive year for Clever Bees and all our team members! We’ve continued to provide support to all the children and families we work with, coming up with innovative ways to maintain support whilst being covid-safe! And we’ve grown too! Over the past couple of weeks we’ve had lots of fun celebrating our achievements as a team, with Christmas trivia and incredible morning tea boxes; we’ve had a very productive planning day; and all enjoyed our Chr...istmas party dinner this week. We’ve also been having lots of fun doing some Christmas-themed activities and reward games with all the children and young people we support who’ve worked so hard this year! We’ve got some big and exciting things to share with you all for the New Year, but in the meantime, we wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and a safe holiday season. We’ll be back at work on 11th January, 2021, after a much needed break for all our team. We can’t wait to see you all in the New Year!!

To help with talking about wearing face masks with your children, and preparing them for therapists attending their sessions wearing face marks we're sending all our families photos of our therapists wearing masks and not wearing masks. We've also attached them here too! We are committed to continue to provide the children we work with and their families a high quality service whilst also following all guidelines and recommendations in or...der to keep our team and everyone we support safe. 03.01.2022 We had an amazing virtual team breakfast this week!! As a mobile service, we try and catch up as a team pretty regularly, but COVID has made this a little tricky... This week we had our team breakfast virtually - with incredible breakfast boxes by Honey and Brie Graze Co. - they were delicious!!!
