24.01.2022 Periodontal disease I’ve recently discovered that I have it what causes it? Too much acidity in the mouth as well as some dodgy genes (thanks mum and dad ). I’ve also recently listened to @chefpeteevans podcast with @dr.hishams.holistic.oralcare and discovered there are ways around getting healthy teeth and gums. Check it out for yourself So why the pic of the mandarin’s ? Citrus is acidic right? Yes and therefore creates saliva that is alkaline which neutralise...s the mouth. The mouth needs to be alkaline to help stop tooth, gum and bone disease!! Now off to eat the mandarin PS. This is not health advise... just a recent discovery of my own . . . #periodontaldisease #phbalance #mouthhealth #holisticapproach #jerf #citrusfruit See more

24.01.2022 In case you needed a reminder that fermenting is EASY!! And oh so good for us

23.01.2022 ALLOWING It’s been hard... the time between Christmas and New Year when families come together to spend time and connect. It’s often a time when I feel most uncomfortable & I know I’m not alone in those feelings. My boys were with their dad, my parents trip to SA was cancelled (meaning I haven’t seen them in over a year) and the state of the world just got a bit too much. ... So as much as I push up against all of that one needs to allow all the feelings that arise be and also step back... take a break and connect with what is happening in the now. It’s not always easy yet it’s possible. . . . #thisnowmoment #inthenow #allowing #adelaide #southaustralia #connection

22.01.2022 REFLECTION I’ve been contemplating all day something to share on CBK socials... 2020 has been the mother of all years! Something that was really apparent to me this year with the loss of my boys step mum is that life is short... we never know when it’ll be over yet it’s guaranteed it will be. ... This year has shown me that more people are living in fear than living their life. What we truly have is a gift... treat it like one What are you taking into the new year? What are you letting go of? This could be over a lot sooner than we realise . . . #gift #freedom #ifyoudontstandforsomethingyouwillfallforanything #theresmoreofusthanthem #love #connection

21.01.2022 Love being back in the kitchen!

21.01.2022 CONNECTION After months of altered ways of being what really is coming to me is how we connect. What are you doing at these times to remain connected? To self, to family, to friends, to community? We are in times like we’ve never seen before and we’re moving into a new way of being that will have a flow on effect many years into the future. So while I know that some states in Australia are more fortunate than others we need to connect and support each other during this... time. Separation is not good for anyone. If you can... make the effort to be in nature, turn off the TV and get off social media (after you’ve read this post of course ) Breathe deep and nurture yourself through eating real food Know you are not alone and although it is challenging we will get through it please reach out if you need . . . #connection #humanity #2020 #wwg1wga #jerf See more

20.01.2022 My first memory of Christmas Pudding was when my grandmother used to make it and hang it in my mum’s old bedroom (from a broomstick on the top of the wardrobe...sounds like something from Narnia all witchey and mysterious ). For the longest time I wanted to make one and so I did! It’s now become a yearly tradition! I love being able to share traditions and help start new ones... so if you’re inclined please come along to this Christmas Pudding workshop! ... You’ll leave with a life long skill as well as a delicious pudding to share with your loved ones. Spaces are limited to 10 (cause COVID said) and we’ll be taking all measures possible to ensure our food safety is number one (as always). Oh and GF/DF etc available Can’t wait to see you there!! 19.01.2022 REVERENCE I was having a conversation this past week with my acupuncturist (Lara at @sana_acupuncture ) about food, what to eat and when to eat but most important of all eating! As I left she said remember... eat with reverence and of course I drove home thinking about all the times I’ve sat in front of the TV or at the kitchen bench with my phone and never honoured the food that was in front of me. I make a point of sitting with my kids and eating at the table yet ...when they’re not around I can get lazy... hello, human being here ! So I practiced and I’ll keep practicing and honouring the space that a meal deserves. It’s the things that are important that sometimes get missed. Enjoy your meals and be present . . . #reverence #mindfulness #acupuncture #jerf #healthcoachinthemaking See more

15.01.2022 WINTER SOLSTICE today at 7:13am ACST we walked over the threshold of winter. The days will now slowly start to get longer and the nights shorter. It’s a slow process yet it’s time for things to slowly expand Last night I was held in a circle of like minded people with @yogainmylor and we set intention of what the solstice would bring. Now is a time of reflection and also a time to expand our thoughts with what we would like to come into being in the future. This is ...so important at this time as the planet is undergoing major shifts... Love is the only way So today take some time to reflect and perhaps set an intention of what you can bring into being I’m stepping bravely into the future with appreciation of all that has been and what is to come . . . #expandedconsciousness #movinginto5d #wintersolstice #love #hippydippy See more

15.01.2022 Another fortnight of fabulous food all made with love in our @sakgf sessions. If children were empowered with the skills and knowledge to grow and cook their own food what would their future look like? If they were taught to love and care for produce that will fill their tummies with health and wellness. If health became a priority and boosting their immune system was taught in school wouldn’t it be awesome!! For many kids it’s happening yet this is something that can be ...standard procedure in all schools! . . . #bethechange #wholefood #realfood #jerf #schoolgrown #kitchengarden See more

12.01.2022 SOURCE no I don’t mean the type one puts on a burger... I mean the connection one has to nature and oneself. Yesterday I was blessed to spend time on the #murrayriver at #ngautngautconservationpark where the original people are caretaking the land. Something that rang true for me was something that was said we do not own the land... the land owns us! I couldn’t agree more It’s time to acknowledge the land and sky as a sacred being that needs our care. Take time to be in it and nurture it. This time is not for us yet for the generations to come #connection #nature #thegreatawakening #wwg1wwga

09.01.2022 Happy Birthday to a very inspiring woman

09.01.2022 A day in the kitchen isn’t always about cooking! Today we had a group of year 1’s and 2’s in the kitchen creating their own beeswax wraps! These guys are learning all about sustainability... a few weeks ago they went on an excursion to the recycling depot and took all their 10c bottles/cans. In a term they raised about $55 and with the money they bought (some) of the ingredients for these wraps! Sustainability and environmental awareness can start young.. these wraps will n...ow be sold as a pack to the wonderful community and the ripple effect has taken place. Start small but start!! Local community centres and businesses are now opening up again so look out for workshops that lead you down the environmental path #sustainability #beeswaxwraps #kitchengarden #recycle

03.01.2022 Has anyone seen these guys before... Ginger? Galangal? None of the above?! This little fellow has been taking over our school(s) menu... it’s none other than the Jerusalem Artichoke They’re a member of the sunflower family and are prolific growers... once you plant them they just keep growing.... With a beautiful nutty flavour they are delicious roasted, in soups and even fermented! One thing they are famous for is their super farting power Why is this?? They are high... in fibre and low GI so they’re good for us yet they are a resistant starch so our body takes what it can and gasses off the rest! If you haven’t tried them please do... they are yum . . . #jerusalemartichoke #fartichoke #resistantstarch #kitchengarden #schoolgrown See more

02.01.2022 Cold days but warm grub served up by little hands in the BANB7 kitchen garden. This week we made these delicious chocolate chickpea cookies... did you know that if you combine chickpeas and tahini it increases the protein available from those two foods? High protein chocolate cookies... yes please! these are so easy and great for lunch boxes!!... All you need is: 1 can chickpeas cup tahini 2 tbsp cacao powder cup maple syrup 1 tbsp vanilla powder, paste or extract 1 tsp baking powder Pinch sea salt Step 1 Preheat your oven to 180C and line 2 baking trays with baking paper. Wash and drain chickpeas well and place in a food processor with all remaining ingredients. Blend for a minute or two, until ingredients are well combined and the dough is smooth and creamy. Step 2 Using two spoons, scoop the biscuits into balls and place onto the baking trays. Top with chocolate chips if you like. Step 3 Place in the oven and bake for 20-25 mins or until crispy. Store in an airtight container

01.01.2022 Today is a big day!! After 8 years of working in my role as Kitchen Specialist in the @sakgf program at Braeview School I’m taking my leave. I am so blessed and appreciative that I have had the opportunity to work with about 200 kids per year for the last 8 years and that (hopefully) I’ve exposed them to new food and ways of cooking that they would never have experienced before. My job here hasn’t just been a job... it’s been 8 years of growth and relationships have develo...ped with staff, learners and parents/grandparents of the school community. These programs are essential for learning as well as creating confident, resilient and self sustainable kids who can go forth into life with skills that allow them to flourish It’s time to hand over the reigns and step into my next adventure (I’m still working at another school doing the same job and I’ll be focusing on my @wellcollegeglobal study). Love to everyone that has crossed my path... know you have all been a huge part of me discovering who I am and what I want to bring into this world . . . . #sakg #kitchengarden #healthcoach #cookingwithkids#growth #jump See more
