22.01.2022 Youkoso! Clever Kids are proud to be included in the 160 Early Childhood Learning Centres in Victoria participating in the Department of Educations funded Language Program. The Learn Languages at Kindergarten Program is where children in around 150 services will learn in another language for up to three hours per week. We chose Japanese for our Learn Languages Program in alignment with the local schools in our community. We are so lucky to have Hiromi, one of our permanent... teachers at Clever Kids teaching Japanese in our Kindergarten program; providing a richer experience in addition to the allocated 3 hours of funded time. Education experts have found that there are many benefits in learning additional languages at a young age, including: increased reading and writing skills cognitive flexibility strengthened brain development improved problem solving skills. Learning in another language gives children a richer understanding of how languages work and fosters their literacy skills. For those children already fluent in another language, it can bolster self-esteem and strengthen cultural identity. The language program recognises that by encouraging diverse language skills in our kindergarten services, Victorians can build stronger local communities and prepare children for an increasingly connected world later in life. 21.01.2022 Clever Kids Childcare have a special relationship with Rosewood Garden's Nursing home in Ashburton. We developed an Intergenerational Program at the end of last year which was a huge success for the residence of Rosewood Garden's and the Kindergarten children from Clever Kids. With fortnightly visits and an array of experiences for the children and residence to participate in together; colouring, craft, gardening, singing and more. The relationships that developed were real a...nd genuine, which made for a tearful farewell at the end of the year. Intergenerational Programs refer to social service programs that provide opportunities for different generations to come together to share experiences, knowledge, and skills that are mutually beneficial and foster positive long-term relationships. For us, an Intergenerational Program provides opportunities to support children's community involvement and the skills to become active participants in society. The Early Years Learning Framework states, "Children belong first to a family, a cultural group, a neighbourhood and a wider community. Belonging acknowledges children’s interdependence with others and the basis of relationships in defining identities. In early childhood, and throughout life, relationships are crucial to a sense of belonging" (Australian Children's Education & Care Quality Authority [ACEQA] (2009).
