22.01.2022 Power of the Tribe The recent referendum in Ireland, has seen a huge vote of support for the proposition to allow abortions for residents of Ireland. There was a vote against that proposition by many, following on from the majority vote last taken in 1983. What makes this vote very different to votes in other parts of the world, is that while it will not be liked by everyone, it will be accepted. How did this change happen in such a conservative community. Viewed from afar it... was exciting to see the power of tribes, how people within the country were supported to get out to vote, not just female voters but male as well. Greater still was how supporters within Ireland encouraged voters to return home to Ireland, so they could vote to support the change, not just for themselves, but for future residence of Ireland. They outlined that Irish voters living as far away as USA and even Australia, were encouraged to come home to support current and future Irish women - creating a strong bond of this new tribe. It was amazing how social media was used to create this new tribe that was developed not just to help a small part of the tribe - but create a foundation to help future generations of tribal members not born yet. The way that returning voters were welcomed at entry points to Ireland, clapped on arrival and all given a t shirt to show they were part of this growing tribe. But there was more. It was even more amazing that some Irish residents who could not return to Ireland and could not vote for their new tribe, offered to pay for others who could not return home because of costs. Unrelated people who had just one thing in common - membership of this new tribe, working to support each other to achieve something for future generations of their tribe.
