25.01.2022 So we did our research, called business owners and directors in the legal, accounting, IT services and other professional industries. They were... blunt... and very informative about their desire to have their time saved, their client managing and massaging automated as much as possible. They didn't mince their words, so we narrowed our focus on functionality in accordance with their candid (read: super-blunt) feedback. That's our job, so we got onto it.... Lawyers, accountants, architects, engineers, fiancial and insurance and mortgage brokers, marketing agencies, ad agencies.... they all told us what they wanted. Firmly.

22.01.2022 A wishlist of what some popular, but also utilitarian tools and apps that we wanted OUR planned 'all-in-one' client portal to integrate with, was formulated... an ambitious list, but we figured: if we can have a client portal that pulls in key information for businesses that are already using those other, best of breed tools... then we're really cooking with gas... cooking up a storm... we're mixing our cooking metaphors but you get the point...

21.01.2022 So we figured, "...alright, let's find this tool that MUST exist to bring everything that we need to look after our valuable, repeat clients that we interact with regularly... into 1 neat, tidy, central place so we don't have to use all of these separate, disparate, disconnected systems." So we searched with the keyword 'client portal'. But the top 2 organic results weren't at all what we expected (see attached). They weren't neat, tidy, all-in-one apps that could combine all... our client information, messages, files, details, projects and upselling etc in one place. Not at all. They were just login pages to large company's own, presumably built in-house client portals. Huh? Surely, there MUST be some good, all-in-one client portals for the literally tens of thousands of IT services, accounting, legal, real estate and many other professional services providers in just Australia alone?" Nope. See more

20.01.2022 Circa: May 2019. Ok so now we have been thinking, and pondering, and positiing, and the gap we saw - no single, all-in-one, centralised Client Portal that gave professional service providers just about EVERYTHING they want to manage, upsell, caretake, retain their clients. And to automate admin tasks, automate simple repetitive processes, streamline and automate as much as possible to free up their time in client management. And the gap - the vacuum where there just doesn't seem to be any 'one ring to rule them all' LOTR type solution in this space - we saw as an opportunity. Firstly, for us to build EXACTLY what we wanted, we're fussy like that. Secondly - to fill a real, obvious, oddly unsatisfied need in the small business space. All in one client portal. So we decided to build one.

20.01.2022 So we also thought - "what made US want to find an easy, elegant, all-in-one solution to manage, caretake and grow our clientele?". The answer was simple - we wanted to save time on that client management malarky, so we could spend more time building zany platforms and apps that made us feel...good. So we asked the same question in some research calls we did. Re-enactment 1 (paraphrased below): Us: "How much spare time do you have to follow up on clients after you finish a jo...b for them, say with checking in on how they liked what you did, or what else they needed?" Accountant: "About no time, whatsoever." Us: "Ok, what about pro-actively farming more positive online reviews off your clients. You mentioned you have around 2,000 clients, but your Google Reviews - you have 4. What's going on there?" Accountant: "Don't know, don't have time to ask for reviews, and I'm an accountant, not a marketing guy." Us: "What about setting up, writing and sending automated, drip fed email campaigns to your clients encouraging them to use more of your services, or your more profitable services, or even to send you more referrals?" Accountant: "Umm, exactly no time. I know I should, but I don't have the time." Us: "What if we built a system that could do a lot of this stuff, and more - the stuff you know you WANT to do, but don't have time to do?" Accountant: long pause.... "When can you come and show it to me?"

19.01.2022 Circa - earlier in 2019: ok, so there are some cool business tools out there to look after clients. To share files with them - Dropbox, Google Drive and more. To get them to digitally sign documents - Docusign etc. To invoice them - Xero, MYOB and many more. To track all their details and their development from prospective clients to real clients, you have your best of breed CRM's like Pipedrive (we are big fans of this one) and Zoho, Salesforce. To project manage them there ...are some really cool apps - Asana, Monday. To market to leads and existing clients - there are email automation tools like Sharpspring, Infusionsoft. But HOW do we bring all of them together so we aren't using 5, or 6, or more disparate tools? Or how do we create ALL of that functionality, so that if some businesses have 1 or more of them, we just integrate with those, but any gaps are filled by us having equivalent functionality sitting their, in modules, waiting to go. Thinking hats were donned, planning was commenced. See more

17.01.2022 Also circa May 2019: so we thought, hmmmm, 'client portal'. Sounds kinda boring. Clients will love it no doubt - they get convenience, they get a dedicated portal say from their accountant, their lawyer, their real estate agent, their whoever. But does it sound sexy to the businesses we will be trying to sell it to??!? What was the simplest way to be SURE there was an actual appetite for this? Simple indeed - ask a bunch of businesses a few simple, quick questions: 1. how man...y different systems are you using at the moment? - most common answer - 4 to 8 2. do you double handle information and lose a lot of time on admin, housekeeping, etc - most common answer - 'ummm, emphatic yes!' 3. do you find it weird that there is nothing out there that either HAS all functionality in one tool, and or can PULL information from all your existing tools into one place? - most common answer - 'abso-freakin'-lutely' (yes, we're paraphrasing) Our conclusion - there IS an appetite for an all-in-one, client management, client happiness, client upselling, client attracting, client engaging portal. Ravenous appetite.

14.01.2022 We asked different professionals similar questions about what their wishlist would be in a single, simple, potent tool to streamline, automate, and grow their business. Re-enactment 2 (paraphrased liberally): Us: "So, you're a lawyer?" Lawyer: "Allegedly. That's law humour."... Us: "Ummm... cool. So do you want to grow your practice or are you happy with it at the size it is now?" Lawyer: "Grow it. I like money." Us: "What do you currently do to grow it?" Lawyer: "Word of mouth referrals." Us: "That's great, but that's not YOU. That's your clients, when it occurs to them, occasionally, to recommend you to their friends. What do YOU have in place, what tools or strategy to grow?" Lawyer: "I object." Us: "But... why? To what?" Lawyer: "I'm a lawyer, not a marketer." Us: "Yes, you have a legal business. The name connotes 50% legal, the other 50% being business - marketing, being efficient, having good tools to look after your clients etc." Lawyer: "Leading the witness." Us: "Would you see value in an all-in-one client management, client growth, client 'happiness' platform that automatically did some of the admin, and some of the marketing that you don't have time for?" Lawyer: "Yes. When can you come and show it to me?"

05.01.2022 Circa June 2019: so we started to try to figure out our target market. Here's the serial killer-profiling style list of traits we came up with to profile who we figured would REALLY love an all-in-one, all singing and all dancing Client Portal: 1. professional service businesses like Goldilocks - big enough to have a valuable client list, not so big that they have their own inhouse team of marketers and account managers and hordes of admin staff to run everything for them - s...mall to medium sized. Just right. 2. speific industries that have high value, repeat clients: accountants, lawyers, real estate agents, marketing agencies, IT service providers, architects, engineers, financial advisors, insurance and mortgage brokers... etc. Our mental image of our core target clientele looked... well, like this...

04.01.2022 Circa - August 2018: So we thought "hmmmm, right now to look after our clients, we use: 1. an accounting system to invoice them 2. a CRM to track their information 3. emails to message them, which becomes a big ball of yarn to unravel to get back to specific emails or attachments therein 4. a marketing automation tool to send automated reminders & upselling prompts to them... 5. a project management tool to keep on top of the jobs we have to do for them ... the list went on." Why the hell is the list so long? So many separate, disparate systems to just look after clients, none of them really talking to each other. 'This can't be right?' we asked ourselves. Most businesses out there MUST be using an 'all-in-one' magic bullet system that does it all, or at least integrates all client info and tasks and invoices and emails etc... into one simple, unified place, right? Did we just miss the memo about it? Nope.
