24.01.2022 Waiting for the other person to apologise first is a recipe for relationship failure. - Harriet Lerner If youre waiting for them to apologise, and theyre waiting for you to apologise, no one ever does. Issues go unresolved. Resentment is rife. Relationships die. At work this leads to a break down of performance and culture. At home is leads to the break up of families.... All of which can be avoided if you take take the first step. #apologise #relationships #leadership #organisationalpsychology #cliffordmorgan

24.01.2022 CovidComms#018 The mental models that military leaders use provides the structure they require to remain responsive in battle and be intentional, effective and efficient in their decision making amidst uncertainty and change. These same mental models can help us during these current uncertain times. Here we explore one of those models and how it can be used in the present environment. #oodaloop #ooda #decisionmaking #leadership #organisationalpsychology #cmconsulting #cliffordmorgan

23.01.2022 Don’t forget to communicate about communication. It’s a key feature of high performing teams. Check in with your team and see whether they are getting the right quantity and quality of communication to meet their needs. They may want a little bit more of something and a little bit less of something else. ... It may only be a quick conversation and involve only minor tweaks, but can have a big impact with your team. #communication #leadership #highperformingteams #organisationalpsychology #cliffordmorgan

22.01.2022 Its a new day and a new week. Which habit, which discipline, are you motivated to make consistent this week on your journey as you grow towards high performance and purpose? Consistency creates the stability you need to build something of significance (whether that be career, life or legacy).... But consistency needs consistency of intention and commitment to be established. Consistency doesnt just happen over night. As you start a new week, make sure you make the commitment to be intentional about maintaining consistency you need to achieve your dreams. 21.01.2022 Covid Comms #027 - Enjoying the Journey: Making Remote Work Fun There are many benefits to humour in the workplace. When working remotely there can be a tendency for us to only connect when we have something work related to discuss. That means we have to be intentional about inserting humour into our remote teaming environments. #humour #laughter #resilience #organisationalpsychology #cliffordmorgan

21.01.2022 Covid Comms #028 - Developing Your People During Covid19 A good leader can turn any situation into a learning opportunity. Covid19 presents some pretty unique opportunities to learn and develop your people. Leaders should be intentional about making the most of these opportunities. Heres a couple ideas how you can do that. #leadership #coaching #mentoring #organisationalpsychology #cliffordmorgan

21.01.2022 Reflecting on a great weekend spent with the Board and Executive Team of The Lakes College. Its always encouraging when working with highly engaged and enthusiastic leaders who are all committed to the same outcome. Its also super satisfying to be part of their journey towards a being a high performing team, all on the same page, travelling in the same direction at the same pace and by the same road rules. Im looking forward to working with them over the next couple of ...months as we consolidate their strategy for the next several years. #strategy #leadership #highperformingteams #organisationalpaychology #cliffordmorgan

20.01.2022 Covid Comms #016 Easter looks very different for all of us this year. This year, more than ever, we need to hold on to hope, be encouraged and search for a new inspiration that will position us for the end of this season. Heres a story that brings me hope. #Easter #hope #covidcomms #covid19 #leadership #organisationalpsychology #cmconsulting #cliffordmorgan

19.01.2022 For those interested in the psychology of society issues, good friend and fellow psychologist Leigh Borrell and I have turned on the cameras to film Beyond Bias - a series of conversations where we hope to help people think more critically, live more intentionally and move beyond the cognitive and social biases to get one step closer to the truth. The first series of conversations will be about what contributes to a healthy, well functioning society. We start by discussing R...ights and Responsibilities and where we should put our focus. We don't have all the answers but hopefully we can all take a journey that will get us a little bit closer than where we are now. #beyondbias #psychology #socialpsychology #organisationalpsychology #cliffordmorgan

19.01.2022 Covid Comms #029 - Preparing for Effective Reviews Post Covid19 While now might not be the right time to conduct a full-scale review of how your company has managed the Covid crisis, it is the right time to be thinking about it and preparing for it. A small amount of time spent recording your journey regularly will save a large amount of time and effort when it comes to conducting your review proper. ... #review #afteractionreview #leadership #cliffordmorgan

18.01.2022 To all the mothers out there, thank you for everything! You are appreciated more than is expressed, valued more than is articulated and loved more than chocolate.

18.01.2022 My first face-to-face workshop since the lockdown started. Great to see the restrictions easing so I can get back out to work with Queensland Corrections, supporting the team that will be transitioning a privately run prison into public operations. While its been a great to hone my virtual delivery skills, it was good to be facilitating in person again. #coachingskills #coaching #leadership #organisationalpsychology

17.01.2022 Love seeing my clients still investing in their people, maintaining connection and taking the opportunity to bond as a team by creating memories and experiences they wont soon forget. Well done Locatrix.

17.01.2022 You are more brilliant than you know you are... What will it take to help you realise it? Is it identifying whats holding you back and putting a plan in place to over come it? ... Is it surrounding yourself with people who have achieved more than you? Is it working with a coach or a mentor who can keep you accountable and push you beyond your comfort zone? Is it taking a risk and throwing everything youve got at that long held dream? Is it simply identifying a series of 1% improvements that will compound over time? What is it for you that will help you unlock your potential and realise the brilliance within? If you cant articulate what it is, you cant be intentional about doing it. Take the time to figure it out. If youre struggling, find someone to help you. #potential #coaching #leadership #organisationalpsychology #cliffordmorgan

17.01.2022 Who needs to be reminded of the KISS principle? Keep It Simple Stupid. The Stupid is there for people like me, who has to be regularly reminded to simplify and not make things too complex. ... Whether in business or our personal lives... Whether in systems and processes or relationships... Whether in company-wide communications or a mentoring one-on-one... Take a moment to consider what could be simplified. Simple doesnt always mean easy. But dont over complicate things unnecessarily and make them harder than they need to be. #KISS #simplify #leadership #organisationalpsychology #cliffordmorgan

15.01.2022 Covid Comms #020 Now is not the time to miss opportunities. Nor is it the time to be distracted. If you are going to focus on something, that means you have to ignore something else. 15.01.2022 Covid Comms #017 What are the key differences between military and civilian leaders when encountering a crisis? My observation is that military leaders do these four things when encountering a crisis - and they do them very well.

12.01.2022 What type of work do you prefer doing? You can take the work that any team does and categorise as one of the following eight types of work. We all have our preferences. I like organising and developing. Taking ideas, fleshing them out and turning them into action plans. ... I hate inspecting. Anyone that knows me knows Im not a details guy. Knowing your own preferences and those of your team allows the intentional allocation of tasks to peoples strengths. The result is usually higher team performance and morale. So what type of work do you prefer? #highperformanceteams #teamwork #leadership #organisationalpsychology #cliffordmorgan Team Management Systems - TMSOz.com

11.01.2022 Can you ever have too much TRUST? Trust is a vital foundation for any high performing team. However just like any strength, if overplayed and relied on too heavily, it can derail teams and their leaders. Trust is a great enabler. With it a leader can focus on the work only they can do (strategy, visioning, resourcing the team - leadership) relying on the team to do their work. ... Just because you trust your people and your teams and you can rely on them, doesn’t mean you should give them total autonomy without accountability. Trust without accountability is a recipe for deviation and can result in teams and team members going rogue. Leaders however can only hold teams accountable if they have the necessary oversight and visibility of team performance. Leaders need to check on their teams. Can you have too much trust? I would argue not. However high trust without accountability is dangerous. #trust #accountability #leadership #organisationalpsychology #cliffordmorgan

11.01.2022 Covid Comms #026 - Checking In: Making It Meaningful. Just because weve found a level of stability as we move forward, we cant stop checking in with our people. 10.01.2022 Ive had a couple of questions about the Pygmalion Effect after my last episode of #covidcomms. The Pygmalion Effect is a psychological phenomenon where our expectations of others will influence their performance and behaviour. There are some really interesting studies around how school teachers expectations influence the grades of their students. ... 09.01.2022 Mara and I had a brilliant morning with Jonathon Clark and David Neale from The Eighth Mile Consultancy working through the strategic direction of our business for the next five years and beyond. 09.01.2022 If you want to perform at your best at work, invest time with your family at home. The importance of this lesson was highlighted when I interviewed World Champion Air Race pilot Matt Hall. He said having your home life in order was foundational to being able to perform at your best. The last thing he wanted to be thinking about when he was about to fly into the track at 300km/hr was a fight with his wife.... Its the same in the corporate world. The last thing you want to be worrying about as you give a presentation to the CEO/Board is the state of your relationship with your kids. By focusing and investing 100% with your family when at home, it will allow you to focus and give 100% effort and attention at work. #family #priorities #performance #selfleadership #organisationalpsychology #cliffordmorgan

09.01.2022 CovidComms #019 One of the most important things for us to control in the midst of a crisis is where we place our focus and attention. In this episode we explor...e a model used by elite athletes and military operators around the world to help you clearly articulate what type of attention is required and where it should be focused. 07.01.2022 While it seems like an eternity ago now, at the start of this year Australia was devastated by one of the worst bushfire seasons in history. Bega Valley was particularly affected with the firefighting effort extending for 65 days. Today we had the privilege of working with the Recovery, Rebuilding and Resilience Team at Bega Valley Shire Council helping them gain a better understanding of how they work, and how to work with others. This incredible group of people are on the f...rontline, boots on ground in the recovery efforts in Bega. We also loved the chance to collaborate with Tim Tout and Pete Long from HummingByrd Inc in Japan and partner with Team Management Systems Australia to deliver the Team Management Profile through the Happiness Project. We would love to do more projects like this. TMS will donate up to 10 profiles for us to deliver pro bono to teams in a charity. If this sounds like something you or someone you know would be interested, please feel free to contact us.

07.01.2022 Covid Comms #024 - Avoiding Change Fatigue During Covid19 Change is challenging at any time. Its more difficult in the current climate. 06.01.2022 The people you lead are more brilliant than they know they are... What will it take for them to realise it? Is it: - A little more encouragement? - A little more accountability?... - A little more responsibility? - A little more belief in themselves? - A little more enthusiasm from you? - Some clearer expectations of what you expect from them? - A greater reward should they achieve something new? - A little more coaching and mentoring? 03.01.2022 Conflict that drags on and goes unresolved fosters resentment and perpetuates further conflict. This compounds to create a toxic environment. No one can realise their potential, no team can perform at their peak, if operating in a toxic environment. Own the relationship. Apologise first. Be proactive in resolving issues. This is a sign of maturity and wisdom.... If youre committed to performing at your best and enabling the team to achieve high performance, take the first step. #highperformanceteams #conflict #leadership #organisationalpsychology #cliffordmorgan
