18.01.2022 Exciting times ahead with Australian states and territories moving towards banning #singleuseplastic now is the time to be planning alternatives! Ideally events will consider #reusable options which are more cost effective and #sustainable or #compostable is a good start to transition from. Check out these options in our website news and look forward to working with you reducing your waste by increasing your resource in 2021 and beyond ... 15.01.2022 With the disappointing news in recent times re our recycling programmes in Australia on Four Corners, there's some light shining which will at least make it easier for us make better decisions concerning our purchases. Confusion about how to correctly recycle different types of packaging is creating a considerable challenge for consumers and industry in Australia and New Zealand. To address this, in 2018 @Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation launched the Australasian R...ecycling Label, an on-pack labelling scheme that helps consumers understand how to recycle products correctly and assists brand owners to design packaging that is recyclable at end-of-life. Developed in conjunction with our partners, Planet Ark and PREP Design, the scheme aims to increase recycling and recovery rates and contribute to cleaner recycling streams. The ARL is also the only evidence-based labelling system on the market and is powered by the Packaging Recyclability Evaluation Portal (PREP), an online tool that assesses packaging recyclability in the Australian and New Zealand recovery systems. APCO Members have free and exclusive access to the PREP tool. https://www.packagingcovenant.org.au//packaging-recycling-

15.01.2022 Events are possible during COVID 19 but...what do you think about the set up?

14.01.2022 It was a pleasure to be invited to speak with the Advanced Diploma of Events students by their teacher, Jodie from Holmesglen Institute in Melbourne the other day. Jodie searched Sustainable Event Management and CWE popped up. She said, "I was really impressed with your bio and was wondering if you were available to be an industry guest presenter. The students are currently studying to Develop Workplace Sustainability Policy." Of course I jumped at the chance to talk sustain...able events. So I donned a nice business shirt and being online thought boardshorts will do. And in events problem solving and adapting to change is a constant component, to which my internet service decided to go haywire. So I grabbed my computer, headset on and went in search for a better connection, just as a friend Jill was passing and snapped this shot. . . . #climatewave #sustainableevents #zerowaste #plasticfree #composting #ecoangels #solar #legacy #community #shareapositiveimpact #responsible #greeninitiatives #partywiththeplanet #choosetoreuse #reusable #wasteWise #zerowaste #compost #reuse #refuse #reduce #respect #plasticPollution #warOnWaste #plasticFree #ecofriendly #zeroPlastic #zerowasteliving #noExcuseForSingleUse #community #festival #musicfestival #partywiththeplanet

14.01.2022 Thermo scanners, interactive wristbands that vibrate to mark a lack of social distancing, and rapid on-site testing are all being considered by music festivals to ensure the 2021 season goes ahead despite the Covid-19 crisis. The 2020 season was decimated by the pandemic, which forced nearly all major European festivals to cancel or shift to virtual models that acted as stopgaps while the industry came to terms with coronavirus. Thanks to Sustainable Event Alliance for sharing the most up to date #sustainablevents practices

14.01.2022 Congratulations to the City of Gold Coast for their commercial food waste project! The City of Gold Coast with support from the Queensland Government, launched stage two of its Commercial Food Waste Recycling Service. The service collects food scraps and waste, that would otherwise go to landfill, from Gold Coast businesses and turns it into high-quality compost. Since its launch in September 2018, more than 21 businesses, ranging from small cafés to iconic Gold Coast theme parks, have diverted 553 tonnes of food waste from landfill. The compost produced from this waste has been used in the City’s parks and gardens and provided to local farmers. The process has also reduced waste disposal costs for the participating businesses.

11.01.2022 BE AWARE: According to Event Industry News in recent weeks, Noisily Festival was targeted by a sophisticated Facebook phishing scam. And they’re not the only ones either. It’s affecting a whole host of other festivals too they’ve found fake pages and listings that appear to have applied the same tactics for Lost Horizon, Download, Wireless, Reading, Creamfields and Latitude, to name a few.

Australia needs more local governments taking the lead, don't you think Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ)

06.01.2022 Watch out for GREEN WASH with your party supplies! Marine researchers from the University of Tasmania recently tested the ability of helium filled pure latex balloons to fully compost as advertised and found the advertisements were not accurate. The researchers buried the balloons in industrial compost and fresh and salt water and took them out at various intervals. They found that none of the balloons broke down in 16 weeks as advertised and remain a menace to wildlife. F...urther they found they had a range of chemicals were added to the latex to enable them to perform as balloons. If they escape balloons filled with helium can travel up to 200 kilometres and if they fall into the sea or on land they can be eaten by wildlife. This can cause them to starve to death as the balloons do not pass through the animals’ gut. Helium is also a scarce resource needed for medical and industrial purposes and should not be used for such a frivolous purpose. The researchers recommend using bubbles or if you must use them, make sure it is only indoors and that they are deflated and binned after use. As reported by The Conversation and thanks to Gecko Environment Council for sharing :)
