24.01.2022 We are wishing everyone a happy Easter . Please stay safe during these anxious times and seek support if isolation is getting too difficult for you or someone you love.

23.01.2022 We would like to introduce ourselves. My name is Julianne Daunt. My counselling qualifications are underpinned by extensive experience in secondary education and pastoral care. My areas of interest include anxiety, depression, adolescents, educational issues and the social/emotional issues often experienced by young people. The individual needs of the client are paramount to my work.

17.01.2022 It’s a new year and some are starting school soon. This can be an anxious time for children and parents! To help with this change we have some tips: Take advantage of any orientation program the school offers so that you and your child are familiar with the school before the first day. This will help make the first day a little bit less daunting for all of you. Get excited about school if you’re excited then you have a better chance of your child being excited too Talk to your child about your feelings as parents this is a big change and the best way to get your child to open up is for you to open up as well If you are concerned about how anxious your child is about starting school, call us and book an appointment and we will help you

16.01.2022 If you need help or are a parent who needs some extra help then give us a call and book an appointment on 0401 975 858.

15.01.2022 Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, an opportunity to shine a light on suicide prevention and reach out to someone you are concerned about. You dont need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener. However, some conversations can be too big for friends and family. If youre worried about someone and feel they need professional support, encourage them to connect with a trusted health professional.

14.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day. It is important to remember that our kids also go through so much and we need to look after their mental health as well as our own. Today is a good day to check in and make sure the kids are alright.

14.01.2022 My name is Margie Wills. I am a counsellor with a background in education. I have considerable experience working with young people; children and adolescents. I have a particular interest in the areas of ADHD, ASD, learning difficulties, depression, anxiety and other social and emotional problems experienced by those in this age group. My therapeutic approach is person-centred and dependent on the individual needs of the client.

Getting involved in group activities Sharing a cuppa with a mate Or you can find your own way to Share the Journey and support yourself and others. See more

07.01.2022 From time to time, young people experience problems that affect their lives. Counselling allows them to work through these situations in a positive way. The process helps them consider their options and develop strategies in a supportive, confidential setting. At Clinical Counselling, we specialise in counselling children and adolescents. The involvement and support of parents and families is welcomed.

06.01.2022 October is Mental Health Month and the theme this year is Share the Journey. Share the Journey is all about ways we can connect with others, both for our own health and wellbeing, as well as theirs. Mental health is just as important as physical health and we need to look after ourselves.

05.01.2022 A sign of the times..for now For days now the Corona Virus has been in the headlines. It is essential that the most recent and relevant information is shared with us. Many will be anxious about how this event will unfold. Social distancing and the possibility of isolation will add yet another layer of anxiety to this already stressful situation. However, this doesnt have to stop us from communicating with each other- by phone, facetime, email, social media.the list is long. So stay connected-share a song, a joke, a story, a photo or video with those who, for a time, are out of the loop. Or if you feel this is not enough, maybe help them touch base with a health professional. Remember, there will be an end to this.

02.01.2022 Children and Anxiety Recently, a friend asked me what was the most prevalent issue I saw in my work with children. I didnt have to think; it is anxiety. And this is in children as young as five. So, it was with particular interest that I read Amanda Dunns article Anxious times: What is going on with our primary-aged children? (Sydney Morning Herald, August 11, 2019). As she outlined, there can be many reasons for anxiety in children. To some extent, a little anxiety is g...ood for us and prepares us to cope with a variety of day to day events. Too much, too often has the opposite effect and can be debilitating. Some of the cases mentioned which resonated with me included over-committed children, uncompromising parental expectations where failing is unacceptable, helicopter parenting, unmonitored screen time and sleep problems. Ms Dunn sourced recommendations from a number of experts and is well worth consideration by parents. In short: Perfect parents do not exist Children need structure and boundaries (even though their interactions with us would sometimes suggest otherwise) Monitor screen use (time and content) Make time for conversations Look at the number of extra-curricula activities. Encourage a good sleep routine However, as well-known psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg mentioned, anxiety needs intervention when children have trouble with friendships (new and pre-existing), lose interest in favourite things, have trouble separating from parents and/or start to struggle with learning at school. At times like these, dont be afraid to ask for help. You will find more detail in the article and I commend it to you. https://www.smh.com.au//anxious-times-what-is-going-on-wit
