25.01.2022 Hot off the presses . Townsville, Rockhampton, Princess Alexandra and Caboolture hospitals scooped the pool at the Annual Australian Stroke Coalition Quality Stroke Services Awards, each taking out excellence awards for "the provision of nine quality of stroke care metrics". Another four Queensland hospitals (Mackay, Gold Coast, Ipswich and Prince Charles) earned merit awards or honourable mentions. Congratulations to all involved from CEQ's Statewide Stroke Clinical Network http://ow.ly/I3t750CxH4L

23.01.2022 Yesterday the Federal Government released the National Stillbirth Action and Implementation Plan, which provides significant further investment to help address the tragic issue of stillbirth in Australia. The plan reiterates the national target of a 20 per cent reduction in stillbirth in five years and the recommendations include implementation of the Safer Baby Bundle and IMPROVE training course. Queensland officially launched the SBB in October this year with 37 sites currently participating. To find out more on these initiatives visit https://learn.stillbirthcre.org.au/

21.01.2022 Congratulations and welcome to Dr Sean Rothwell: our new Queensland Emergency Department Strategic Advisory Panel Co-chair! Sean has worked as a consultant emergency physician for 17 years and brings with him a wealth of knowledge, experience and understanding of the challenges faced by emergency clinicians. We thank Dr Andrew Staib for his 4 years as QEDSAP Co-chair. Andrew has been influential in the development of several key bodies of work to improve the care and outcome of patients requiring emergency care in Queensland.
21.01.2022 The University of Queensland has today announced their COVID-19 vaccine will not be developed after human trials returned false-positive HIV test results. We’d like to applaud all of the researchers and volunteers involved for their courageous efforts to develop a lifesaving vaccine. We recognise what a heavy burden this has been and the countless hours of work done behind the scenes throughout the past several months. We’re excited to see where your Molecular Clamp technology will lead not only the nation but the world. Thank you UQ.
18.01.2022 Incredibly heartening to see Matthew Ames, sepsis survivor and adult consumer representative on CEQ's Statewide Sepsis Steering Committee, helping guide Mick O'Dowd and his family (pictured) through their own sepsis journey on Australian Story last night. #CouldthisbeSepsis #AMatterofMinutes https://ab.co/336TSNG
18.01.2022 Queensland children are presenting with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a dangerous complication of undiagnosed type 1 diabetes, at alarming rates. Jaxon Pearce is one of those children. By the time Jaxon’s diabetes was diagnosed, the 20-month-old was in DKA, his blood sugar levels had surged and acidic substances called ketones had built up to dangerous levels in his body. A finger-prick glucose test at the emergency department saved his life. This World Diabetes Day, we want you to know the four signs of type 1 diabetes toilet (frequent urination or bedwetting), thirsty (always asking for fluids), tired (adequate sleep but still tired) and thinner (losing weight).

05.01.2022 When it comes to sepsis, always listen to parental and carer concern. Ask them: "how is this sickness different?" #WSD2020 #AnyoneAnywhereAnytime Movement for Mia
05.01.2022 With a new year fast approaching, it's time to get in the SWiM! CEQ's SWiM (Strength With Immersion Model) program encourages nurses and midwives to 'stray outside their lanes'. Amelia from Darling Downs Health 'jumped in the deep end' in March 2020, undertaking a three-day intensive training course on caring for frail and older patients. Amelia said a highlight of the course was the opportunity to participate in virtual reality training with Dementia Australia, providing practical knowledge that would be useful in any clinical setting. Learn more about SWim and other training opportunities on CEQ's 2020 Year of the Nurse and the Midwife website. http://ow.ly/95YR50CrDI9 Darling Downs Health
05.01.2022 #ICYMI: We hear an update on little Mia's progress on Sunrise after she lost her limbs to sepsis three years ago. Mia's family are valued consumer representatives for our sepsis program.
