25.01.2022 Happy Birthday Eli. Can't wait to get back on the course Humpty Doo Golf Club

24.01.2022 Love the sunsets in the Top End.

22.01.2022 After 4 years of waiting I decided that it was about time that my neighbour took me up in one of his two helicopters that he has parked on his front lawn every weekend.

22.01.2022 Happy Birthday to my gorgeous wife. I hope your day is as beautiful as you are. all my love.

21.01.2022 With today being the 1st June the end of the financial year is fast approaching. We appreciate that the last few months have been tumultuous for everyone and e...nd of year tax planning may very well be the last thing on your mind. That said, whether you have suffered a downturn in the last few months or whether it has been business as usual, there are steps that you can start to take today to mitigate tax pain moving forward. If things have been tough the last few months but are hopeful/expecting things to bounce back in 2020-21 you may consider: bringing forward any invoicing into this year if you can, and; delay payment of any expenses. Conversely if you need to minimise tax for the 2020 financial year please consider the following: If you have employees, consider paying their superannuation prior to June 30. You need to pay it by the 28th July, so why not pay it now and get the deduction this year. Please note that it is advised to have your contributions in to your super fund by the 22nd June to allow for processing so please get your super contributions in now. Prepaying some of your expenses such as rent, insurance, subscriptions etc. for up to 12 months, can be deducted in the current financial year. Postponing some of your invoicing til after July 1. If applicable, take advantage of the small business instant write-off ($150,000 since 12th March 2020). From July 1 the small business instant write off reverts back to $1,000. Make voluntary super contributions. Please remember that the limit for superannuation contributions is $25,000 per person, from all sources including employer contributions. Review your debtors and write off any unrecoverable debts. As always, please do not spend money just to get a tax deduction!! Please do not hesitate to contact the office should you wish to discuss any of the above. Regards The VGA Team

19.01.2022 Tax time 2020: ATO cautions early lodgers The Tax Office has urged taxpayers to wait until the end of July to lodge their tax returns to minimise their risk of making mistakes. Accountants have begun bracing for a horrendously busy tax time this year as individual clients are expected to lodge early to get their hands on potential refunds as soon as possible. However, ATO deputy commissioner Karen Foat has urged taxpayers to hold off from lodging until all their income details have been finalised.

18.01.2022 Scammers prey on JobKeeper applicants. The ATO has alerted the public to a new JobKeeper scam, with reports surfacing that Aussies are being asked for their bank account details by fraudsters pretending to be from the ATO. The scammers calling members of the public pretend they need their bank account details to deposit the JobKeeper wage subsidy. However, the ATO has confirmed this is most definitely a scam.

18.01.2022 We hope that you are all holding up ok during these challenging times. We wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that the whole VGA team is working extremely hard to stay abreast of the continuing legislative changes that effect you, your business, your family and your livelihood. If you think that you may be entitled to some of the ATO Stimulus Packages, or even if you are unsure, we encourage you to please contact our office. We are here to help. By way of reminder...: The cash boost for employers will happen automatically with lodgement of the relevant BAS. Please note that this is a refund of PAYG withheld for employees, so the vast majority will not receive a refund as such. It will just reduce your BAS liability. Enrolment for the JobKeeper payment (JKP) opens on Monday. If you have not already done so, please register your interest through the link below. https://www.ato.gov.au//enrol-and-apply-for-the-jobkeeper/ Please remember that the first criteria for the JKP is that you have suffered, or are likely to suffer, a decrease of 30% or more in turnover in comparison to the corresponding period last year. Please let us know if you would like for us to assess your eligibility for the JKP. We know that quite a few of you have already requested this. Should you choose, you are able to enrol yourself for the JKP through the ATO Business Portal. Please remember to look after yourself and to check in on a mate. #mentalhealth From the VGA team

17.01.2022 The take away from this is, "If you don't ask, you don't get." If you have a mortgage, lean hard on your lender. You are worth $000's to them and they don't want to lose you as a customer. It's now time for a bit of payback! Call them today and negotiate a better deal.

17.01.2022 Some people will find this graphic useful. With thanks to Michael Armstrong for putting this together.

15.01.2022 Guidance from the ATO surrounding the Jobkeeper Payment

14.01.2022 Sole traders and other entities Sole traders and some other entities (such as partnerships, trusts or companies) may be entitled to the JobKeeper Payment scheme under the business participation entitlement. However, not-for-profit organisations are not included. Your entity may be eligible for the JobKeeper Payment scheme if you:... have a non-employee individual who is actively engaged in the operation of the business we refer to this individual as the eligible business participant meet the other relevant eligibility requirements. A limit applies of one $1,500 JobKeeper payment per fortnight for the eligible business participant. If your entity also has employees, you may also be able to claim additional JobKeeper payments of $1,500 per fortnight per eligible employee. The entity, not the eligible business participant, receives the JobKeeper payment. The exception is a sole trader, who is both the business entity and an eligible business participant, and so receives the JobKeeper payment themselves.

13.01.2022 Child care will be made available for free for parents who continue working during the coronavirus pandemic, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced.

06.01.2022 Tomorrow is R U OK day? 2020 has been challenging for all of us. Now more than ever it is critical that we stay connected and reach out to a mate, friend, loved one, colleague. Over the next 24 hours challenge yourself to reach and ask someone, R U OK? It may be the most important question you ask this year. You don't need to have all the answers. Just be there and if needed, lead them to a health care professional. #mentalhealth #depression #anxiety #wellbeing #mentalhealthawareness

02.01.2022 All (bad) jokes aside, I’d like to give a Friday shout out to 2 businesses that have helped me out a lot in the last few weeks: Sam Eyles Refrigeration & Air Co...nditioning And Clinton Hayward Accounting (Vita Gustafson Partner) These 2 businesses jumped in to help with some very important facets in a shut down scenario of a licensed premises, when I’ve been under the pump and can’t see the woods for the trees! Sometimes even just offering an ear, which is what we all need in uncertain and stressful times. You will find these kind people here: https://sameyles.com.au/ https://vitagustafson.com/our-team/clinton-hayward/ Support those who support YOUR community club
