18.01.2022 Gippsland Times: Friday 17th April 2020 CLOCKTOWER DOCTOR ADVISES CARE FOR GENERAL HEALTH MATTERS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC.... Dr Thomas Walsh of Clocktower Medical Centre, along with his colleagues at the practice, are very concerned about the trend of patients cancelling or not making - appointments for their on-going and chronic conditions. Patients are feeling that in the light of the COVID pandemic their chronic health issues are not as important, that the practices are too busy, or that its not safe for them to attend. We have adapted our way of consulting during these exceptional times to a very different model, which ensures we abide strictly with infection control measures during this pandemic. Our general practitioners are doing a lot of telehealth and telephone consultations as directed and supported by the Victorian Department of Health. If patients are needing to be seen face to face, then we are making arrangements for them to visit the practice with some very strict measures in place to protect them and others. Our patients are being consulted in their vehicle or an isolation room if their ailment is suited to this. We are particularly aware of high risk patients, where they may be immunosuppressed, have a chronic health condition, over 70 or are in one of the other high risk demographic groups. Our doctors are practicing safe medicine, ensuring that the correct and full personal protective equipment is used at all times for any patients who are presenting with respiratory conditions. These patients are at no time within the main practice or near other patients; rest assured looking after your general health remains safe and has never been more important. We wish to portray that your general practitioner is very much available for consultation and these patients should ring our practice to make an arrangement for their care. The very clear message to general practice patients is that this pandemic is going to be on-going for quite a while; it is imperative that patients keep up with arranged checks and contacts with their doctor throughout this period. It will be done in a modified and safe manner. This communication was echoed in Wednesdays public address by the Victorian Chief Medical Officer, who raised the same concerns about patients needing to keep up with addressing their general health conditions throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
