24.01.2022 Morning rays of sun burn through the mist to illuminate our winery. A stunning morning here in our cool climate. Pic @dbreist #canberradistrictwines #coolclimatewines #nswwines

20.01.2022 After a few years of preparation we are excited to be planting vines in our new Julia Field vineyard. Here we see the team planting Shiraz ENTAV 470, the first of the three Shiraz clones that we’ll be using. The soil has been well-prepared with abundant spring rains. Conditions look promising for the establishment of a healthy and productive new vineyard. Pic: @dbreist #canberradistrictwines #coolclimatewines #nswwines

20.01.2022 Anticipation is building. Looking forward to the release of the stunning 2018 Syrah in two weeks today. Make sure you’re signed up to receive word of our new releases.

19.01.2022 Close to 120mm of rain has fallen over the last seven days. The ground is saturated, the grass has greened and our lower vineyard dam is full to overflowing. Our mini wetland has sprung into life and song - turn up the volume and hear the choir. Pic @dbreist #canberradistrictwines #nswwines #coolclimatewines

18.01.2022 The tail of our windmill catches the light of the setting sun on another cool clear winter’s day. As recently as five years ago the blades of this windmill lay in a twisted heap at the base of the tower. Our longest serving staff member, Michael Lahiff, decided it was time to refurbish the mill and to add the Clonakilla name to the tail. He achieved the restoration in just in time for John Kirk’s 80th birthday - John was thrilled to see the blades spinning above our vines. The windmill now features in many photos taken by visitors to our winery. Not a day goes by without a glance upward to take notice of The Comet C pattern 14 footer in action. 17.01.2022 Across our Europa Park Riesling blocks, past the woolshed, over the windmill and into the light filtered through swirling fogs. Winter in the Canberra District. Enjoy! Pic @dbreist #canberradistrictwines #nswwines #coolclimatewines

11.01.2022 Lovely mix of colours at this time of year - a bit of white ground frost, fresh green grass and new leaves and blossoms on trees. South-east corner of our Eastern Vineyard - early morning. Pic: @dbreist #coolclimatewines #canberradistrictwines #nswwines

09.01.2022 So proud to release the stunning 2018 Syrah on this, the first day of spring. This wine is only available directly from us, online or at the cellar door. You don’t want to miss this one! Have a look at the unique site that produces the fruit that goes into our Syrah. Vid: @dbreist

08.01.2022 We’ve been told it’s a day to reflect on and celebrate Shiraz. 30 years ago John Kirk - the founder of Clonakilla Wines - made our first Shiraz. The fruit was picked by John and his wife Julia in late April, 1990. The Shiraz was sourced from the Westering Vineyard located at Lake George. The wine also included Shiraz from our own original vineyard planted in 1971. Even at that late date the fruit only managed a ripeness of 11.3 baumé. John noted that the lower sugar content ...was probably due to prolonged rain in the previous two weeks or so. He judged the quality of the fruit to be good. After pressing the wine spent about a year in two Bourbon-quality barriques then bottled in April 1991. 594 bottles were filled. Tim Kirk recalls the vivid spice notes of the Shiraz. This was a pivotal development in the history of Clonakilla when we began to discover the exciting potential of cool climate Shiraz. The 1992 vintage included 1% Viognier in the ferment and thus the Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier story began. So, indeed, let’s celebrate Shiraz in all its wonderful manifestations. Thank you John and Tim for the vision and the passion. We raise our glasses! #shirazwineday #coolclimatewines #canberradistrictwines #nswwine @timkirk2 See more

07.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day! A salute to all the dads out there from our resident Whistling Kite. Enjoy your day - hopefully with a beautiful wine from Clonakilla. Cheers. Pic @dbreist #canberradistrictwines #nswwines

06.01.2022 The Taste of Australia team featuring Hayden Quinn was here a number of months ago recording stories for their new season. Clonakilla is featured in the episode being broadcast this coming Saturday at 4:30 PM on Channel 10. Thanks to the team for the coverage of many excellent primary producers in our region. @tasteofaustraliahq @hayden_quinn

06.01.2022 James Halliday on the 2018 O’Riada Shiraz: A wild ride in the vineyard with a hailstorm reducing an already small drought-affected crop. From this point through to the harvest the weather was perfect. So is the colour, deep but crystal clear, the palate is a tiara of spices and cracked pepper, the fruit supple and precisely balanced by oak and tannins. ‘25 Great Reds’ - Halliday Wine Companion Aug/Sept 2020. 06.01.2022 Effortless. Cleared that fence by a good foot! Heaps of roos around this morning. Loving the damp and lush conditions. Pic @dbreist @bindiwines #canberradistrictwines #nswwines #coolclimatewines

03.01.2022 Tim wondering if this space is large enough for his new office. We’ve decided it would better serve as our new storage facility. Sorry Tim! Pic: @dbreist

03.01.2022 A good golden spring morning to you all from Murrumbateman NSW. Looking over our Lower Vineyard and some original plantings from 1971. Pic: @dbreist #coolclimatewines #nswwines #canberradistrictwines

02.01.2022 The wine that Tim holds in his hand is the 2019 Shiraz Viognier. In just four weeks time, on March 2, we will be offering this wine to the public. The reviews are coming in. Campbell Mattinson writes: this is a wonderful release. It leaps from the glass with wonder on its lips. Plums and florals and spices and meats take a walk through a garden, woodsmoke suggested, summer alive. It’s elegant and refined... Still there’s nothing reserved about this wine. Nothing. It’s just all there, ready, perfect. Pic: @dbreist
