25.01.2022 Hazard reduction burns Backburning Burning out What on earth is the difference???? HAZARD REDUCTION BURNS are carried out proactively prior to bushfire season to protect people and assets. They are often called planned or prescribed burns. Hazard reduction burns are planned well in advance, require a permit and are only conducted during favourable weather conditions to reduce fuel (vegetation) loads. BACKBURNING is a technique used when a fire is started intentionally alon...g the inner edge of a fire control line during fire operations to consume fuel (vegetation) in the path of a bushfire. BURNING OUT happens when a fire is intentionally lit to consume sections of unburnt fuel inside a fire control perimeter to remove fuel, widen the control line and stop the progression of fire. The list goes on firebreak, mosaic pattern, strip lighting, spot lighting, head fire, heel fire, flank fire. This fire business can be seriously technical.

21.01.2022 Very High Fire Danger is forecast for the next 4 days. The Fire Danger Rating (FDR) is an early indicator of potential danger and should act as your first trigger for action. The higher the rating, the greater the need for you to act.... The FDR is an assessment of the potential fire behaviour, the difficulty of suppressing fire and the potential impact on the community should a bushfire occur on a given day. A fire with a very high danger rating is a fire that can be difficult to control, with flames that may burn into the treetops. During a fire of this type, some homes and businesses may be damaged or destroyed. During a fire with a very high danger rating, you should use your home as a place of safety only if it is well-prepared and well-constructed. Keep up to date with Fire Danger Ratings and their meanings on the Rural Fire Website: https://www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au/Pages/FDR.aspx

12.01.2022 Some parts of the state have a Very High fire danger rating (FDR) for the next few days. So, what the heck does the term FDR even mean? If a fire were to occur under these conditions then it may be difficult to control and the flames could burn into the tree tops. Some homes and businesses may be damaged or destroyed, and you should only use your home as a place of safety if it is well-prepared and well-constructed. Experts use this tool to assess the potential fire behaviour, how difficult it could be to suppress a fire, and the potential impact on the community should a bushfire occur.

12.01.2022 There are some people you should call in an emergency, and others you definitely should not! You should always phone Triple Zero (000) immediately in an emergency. If you see smoke or fire, regardless of the size, do not assume someone else will alert QFES. Nearly all large fires were once little fires and we consider these an emergency act quickly as time is of the essence! ... Remember, do NOT phone your local Fire Warden, Rural Fire Service brigade or Fire & Rescue station. These firefighters may not be in the station and this delays any response to the incident. The number to ring is Triple Zero (000).

07.01.2022 It was great to meet with the team from OOBE - and Telstra who recently donated several Telstra GO repeaters to improve the Brigade communications capability within our response area. As many residents would know, there's quite a few blackspots along Cedar Creek Road so this donation of Telstra GO repeaters to be installed in the Brigade Appliances will make a positive difference to the safety and interoperability between our volunteer firefighters and other emergency services at the emergencies we attend.
