08.01.2022 Shyla Heal named Australian Youth Women’s Player of the Year! After an eventful 12 months, our congratulations to client Shyla Heal on being named Australian Youth Women’s Player of the Year by Basketball Australia at their Annual Awards! Awarded to the brightest rising stars of the sport, it caps off a year that saw Shyla play a starring role for Australia at the FIBA Under-17 World Championships in August last year. Co-captaining the Sapphires, Shyla averaged 16 points per ...game (2nd in the tournament), 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists. Stats alone don’t tell the story, her leadership and tenacity regularly shining through including in the bronze medal playoff game. She led a furious Australian comeback, scoring 10 consecutive points in the last 6 minutes and 14 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory and put Australia on the podium. Shyla was named by FIBA to the U17 World Cup All-Tournament Five. After a season in Perth for WNBL 18-19, she has signed with Bendigo Spirit for WNBL 19-20 and is looking forward to playing an important role in the success of the team this coming season. In the 2019 Waratah League season, Shyla is averaging 26ppg, 7.5apg and 7.3rpg, leading the league in average scoring and second in the league in average assists. Currently on loan to Rockhampton in the QBL, Shyla is delivering 28ppg, 7.5rpg and 3apg on her short-term stint up North. Next up is the 2019 FIBA Under-19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in late July in Thailand, where Shyla looks forward to continuing to represent Australia on the world stage.
