18.01.2022 Time of the long light in the late afternoon on the last Sunday in September in the year of Covid. I walked The Gully trail in South Katoomba with my neighbou...rs Bev and Tom Plaizier and their sweet, frisky terrier, Henry. The local Gundungara tribe endured through many massacres and finally had this Sacred Place returned to their guardianship during Jim Angel’s tenure as BMCC Mayor. Just as Council has done around our lovely Wenty Lake, the signage - at the rest shelters along the trail - in clear and simple prose gently educate visitors on the tragic history and the vital ecology of this special place. When you visit do tread gently on the sacred Earth, and quietly, so that you can hear the past speak to you. Take nothing from the site, treat all plants, structures and creatures with respect.
