17.01.2022 Peace in the Trees is a unique installation of community art that reflects themes of peace and care for the environment. The installation is an original art4place design that was in part funded by the SCC as part of the Creative Spaces 2012 project. Carving on the stone was carried out by 12 of art4place’s 30 plus artists volunteers. We are going to showcase each piece over the next coming weeks so check back to see them. Very excited to see the relocation and re-installat...ion of the monoliths will create points of pause and reflection along the Precinct walking paths. (which you can access from the Cloudwalk estate) The installation as a whole will reinforce the Sunshine Coast Council and Maleny’s reputation for supporting peace and the environment. Maleny is known as an art tourist destination and currently has about 10 pieces of community-placemaking art that can be visited by tourists as part of a walking tour of the town. #tourist #maleny #sunshinecoast #art #cloudwalk #peace #art4place

17.01.2022 Sculpture 3 on the Peace Walk is by Carolyn Sheather. Heartfelt = Peace in the trees was our inspiration and as I looked out my window into a wall of Palm fronds one peaceful Sunday morning I saw a heart created by a foreshortened palm frond. As a long frond reached toward me it merged into the universal shape of love, there is waspeace in the trees. Peace is a complete awareness and acceptance, it may not literally translate to love but the absence of peace would surely de...scribe its opposite. The use of Sandstone to carry the message of trees seemed perfect and heightened the connectedness of our environment. This sculpture represents how a love of nature, seen through a natural perspective creates a state of love we recognise as peace.

But the creation of peace begins by committing to the journey and taking the first steps no matter who we are. 02.01.2022 Sculpture 1 on the Peace Walk will be "Imagine peace" by Barry Smith. The flat, though stressed and scratched, front surface of this standing stone asked that the word ‘peace’ be carved upon it. The existing scratches and dents in the stone seemed to speak of conflict in days gone by. Peace can find ways over and through such conflict. A slender ‘vine’ entwines the stone symbolising the potential for peace to grow and envelope us. This stone stands amongst the trees as a symbol of peace; and to each viewer simply says, Pause and imagine peace.
