21.01.2022 On ZOOM and FREE - Topic - Grrr get off that computer, now! Wednesday 23rd Sept, 7 to 8.30pm This PARENT WORKSHOP been developed to reset your thinking abo...ut your child’s love for screens and how you can support them to build a BALANCE between ‘screen fun,’ ‘real-life’ and every day commitments. I want to encourage you to ‘keep your eye’ on the GREATEST prize. That is, maintaining a buoyant relationship with your kids, so they stay malleable and you can chip away at teaching that BALANCE’. And, to do this, our kids need us on their side not against them. Not fighting them. And, not attacking the enjoyment they receive from screens. When we blatantly fight them, we are more likely to turn their natural desire for screens into a crazed chase for forbidden fruit. Email me for your login details - [email protected]

19.01.2022 . A lot of warnings have been issued for children to stay off social media, specifically Tik Tok, d...ue to a graphic self harm video that’s circulating. While we do recommend that parents monitor their children or keep them off the platform, it's a band-aid solution for a long-term issue due to the fact that distressing videos constantly circulate online. Instead we would like to encourage all parents and guardians to -: 1 . Understand that they will most likely use it, whether you understand the appeal or not. Ask them what apps they use, find out why they like those apps. Start a dialogue so you can start understanding why it’s important to them. The more you understand about it, the more you can stay across it. 2 . If you know what apps they’re using, help them make their profile as secure as possible, whether it’s TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitch or Reddit (the list is endless). You can do this with the help of this eSafety Commissioner guide: www.esafety.gov.au/key-issues/esafety-guide 3 . Be open and willing to listen. Make them aware of Kids Helpline Official (1800 55 1800), Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636), headspace (headspace.org.au) and Lifeline (13 11 14) so they know they have a place to contact if they don’t feel comfortable approaching you. 4 . Kids often create a social media profile that they make visible to you, but keep their actual profile under a fake name hidden from you. Again, this is why we encourage you to talk to your child openly and honestly. 5 . If your child watches YouTube videos, please be aware there's no guarantee that this content will be safe for kids. People can easily edit distressing videos for kids that slip through the filters. If you can't monitor your child on YouTube then let them watch Netflix kids instead as it has stronger filters. SBS and ABC iview are both free alternatives for children’s online content. The Office of the eSafety Commissioner is a great resource for parents, guardians and kids: www.esafety.gov.au

14.01.2022 Wed. 16th Sept. @ 10am to noon - face to face - FREE - at Fullarton Park Community Centre - THE ART OF MANAGING TRICKY BEHAVIOURS and EXTINGUISHING THEM - to bo...ok call - 8372 5180 - quick! This is practical workshop and centres around 3 foundation ideas that every one of us struggles to get right and maintain especially when we’re under pressure. There is a reason for your child’s behaviour - As parents we need to be clever and work out what their behaviour is really saying. We need to scratch below it and work out what’s driving it, instead of simply responding to the irritation it may cause. How behaviour works - Children continue behaviour when they feel it is being rewarded. Children stop behaviour when they feel it is not being rewarded. Our inconsistency, and sometimes misunderstanding, over what reward really means confuses them! So, let’s look at the idea of reward together. What is the difference between ‘reward’ and ‘giving attention’? Let’s look at tweaking this together. It takes an intelligent plan to manage kids wisely And, this is even more so in the tricky moments. So, let’s get up close and personal and fine tune your style so you leave invigorated to try a few new fresh ideas in the tricky moments! New brain research confirms that how we live, how love our children, interact with them and regulate our own lives has a big influence on how our kids' brains develop. We are the key to their future! The secret to success lies in our capacity to review whether what we are doing is working for our kids, and if it's not, to tweak it so it advantages family life, and their future.

11.01.2022 We are excited about our new BRIDGE Partnership.

10.01.2022 These resilient students took a challenging situation and turned it into a vibrant, fun and creative movie that’s playing on screens across the state right now.... For years the Festival of Music has been a live performance, but COVID-19 put a stop to those plans. But instead of cancelling the event, everyone involved turned it into a musical movie masterpiece for South Australian students to enjoy. And considering what this year has thrown at them, they absolutely deserve to enjoy it. Thank you to the organisers who made this happen, thank you to the students who embraced the challenge, and thank you to the teachers who supported them.

09.01.2022 You are invited to my ZOOM WORKSHOP - Monday 26th Oct - 7pm to 8.30pm - ‘Dealing with BIG FEELINGS' - This workshop brings a collection of practical ideas to c...oach our children to better understand their BIG feelings. We want them to understand what inspires BIG feelings, how to identify them, what to do and how to work productively with them. Firstly, let's recognise that BIG FEELINGS are normal. We are not born with effective ways to control them. Just as it took you and I a while to learn to regulate them, it will also take this generation of kids the same time. In fact, the parts of their brains that self-regulate emotions will not be fully formed until they are in their mid-twenties. Our job has to be to build our children's capacity to manage to manage them better. So, let me help you shift your mindset from feeling as though you’re having to manage poor behaviour to finding teachable moments to gradually develop self-regulation skills. We value these skills because they are the foundation for resilient behaviours. It's FREE. Limited numbers. Must book. Call Fullarton Park Community Centre on 8372 5180 to get my access code and set-up details so you can join me on ZOOM!
