24.01.2022 Byron Bay in NSW a town based around tourism ... the mayor talks about it as akin to a farmer - It’s like a farmer who’s got one crop; if you’ve got a monoculture and that crop fails, or the market drops, you’re not left with much else. Byron’s very similar, he said. "Mayor Simon Richardson says that dependence on tourism, particularly international visitors, made Byron vulnerable when the COVID-19 pandemic hit." https://www.abc.net.au//how-coronavirus-exposed-/12674220

23.01.2022 QUOTE: Are you surprised by this outcome? Clarence City Council alderman Beth Warren moved a motion to have the Aboriginal flag flying outside the council chambers permanently from November, but it was voted down in a tie of six votes to six.

22.01.2022 The St Marys Christmas Eve Party committee regretfully wish to advise that due to Covid19 restrictions the Christmas Eve Party and street parade will not be goi...ng ahead this year. This decision has not been made lightly and we have left making this decision until the last possible moment. We will endeavour to make next years event bigger and better. However, keep your eye out on our Facebook page for competitions in the lead up to Christmas and also Santa’s letterbox will still be placed at the St Marys post office for children to write to Santa and receive a letter back. There will also be raffle tickets circulating around for the traditional Christmas stocking. We thank you for your understanding.

21.01.2022 The east coast is being dramatically impacted by the changing climate QUOTE: Last year's State of the Climate report from the Bureau of Meteorology and CSIRO further reinforced projected climate impacts for Tasmania: generally longer fire seasons causing reduced windows for preparation, continuing flood risk from more intense rainfall events on the East Coast, and some of the world's fastest-warming sea surface temperatures.

11.01.2022 Are you heading to the beach these holidays? Please tread carefully. Hooded plovers and other shorebirds along our popular east coast and Flinders Island beac...hes are busy breeding. Hooded plovers camouflage their nests and eggs so well that you may not notice until it is too late and crack! So please be a good egg and share the shoreline by staying on the wet sand. Keep an eye out for signage and please don't linger too long if you notice hooded plovers nearby. #NLP #KnowYourPlover #protectinghoodedplover Hooded Plover Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service

03.01.2022 QUOTE: Tasmania has classified the Northern Beaches area of Sydney as high-risk and the Greater Sydney and Wollongong areas as medium-risk, while the rest of the state has been deemed low-risk. This means the Tasmanian border is effectively closed to about 70 per cent of the NSW population. Anyone who has been in a high-risk area in the 14 days prior to their planned arrival in Tasmania is barred from entering the state, whereas anyone who has been in a medium-risk area is required to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
