25.01.2022 The draws for the Eamonn Duff 2020 have been completed and sent out to all players. Due to some late withdrawals we have 69 players. As you may have seen in earlier announcements, we are running this as two separate events to ensure we could go ahead. NSW event at Club Banora will run from Saturday 3rd to Monday 5th October.... QLD event at Southport Snooker Club will run from Saturday 3rd to Sunday 4th October. Draws and results can be followed here: https://challonge.com/ED2020NSWMAIN https://challonge.com/ED2020QLDMAIN

25.01.2022 Week 10 Matchday 2 saw old but friendly rivalries resume between Hard Workers and Kilted Dragons. In an entertaining match Jimmy and Paul from Kilted Dragons, who were missing Graham for the night, looked to have gotten off to the perfect start in the doubles. With 3 balls left and 17 points up, Paul miscounted and left the blue up when it looked all over. Adam and George from Hard Workers jumped on the chance and sneaked home by 1 point. Jimmy took on Des in the first single...s and enjoyed a rare win against Des to level it up 1-1. Paul, still looking shell shocked from the doubles, struggled against George but a flurry of snookers got him close before some bad luck saw 2 in offs on the pink. 2-1 Hard Workers. Paul and Des then played on table 1 whilst Jimmy matched up to Adam on table 2. Both matches went down to the pink with Des sneaking home over Paul, and Jimmy coming from behind with the help of some snookers to defeat Adam. Hard Workers move up to 6th spot and Kilted Dragons drop down to 7th. Both are comfortably qualified for the finals. Next week sees Assassins (8th) vs Blackjacks (9th)

25.01.2022 Thanks Grant Schirmer. Nearly as good as your big break against me recently.

24.01.2022 Latest news from the Des Turner Teams Event tonight. Round 9 kicked off with Match A between JNJ and Unjagables. Lots of smack talk beforehand as Unjagables tried to unsettle their opponents and it worked initially with Jack Malone and Brian Green taking out the doubles. However Nero Hanna and then Jessica Woods got the highflying JNJ back on track with all 4 singles wins to run out comfortable winners by 4 frames to 1.... The win is enough to get JNJ back on top and drops Unjagables down to 5th. Next week is bottom placed Blackjacks against 3rd placed Rocket Men.

24.01.2022 Our latest Snooker Monthly Front Cover for July 2020. This is the start of our 4th year doing this....cover 37 if you are counting. This month we celebrate getting our social midweek comps up and running, albeit with restricted numbers but we will accept that in the circumstances. Main feature of the front cover is a thank you to Neville Robinson for running each evening. Great job Nev!

24.01.2022 Newly reworked playing dates for resumption of the Des Turner Teams Event. All players please note what weeks you are due to play.

22.01.2022 The 2nd match of Round 8 in the Des Turner Teams Event was contested tonight by 2 teams at opposite ends of the ladder. Blackjacks were desperate for a win against The Young Ones to keep their season alive. Even before we got to the table, Blackjacks lost 2 of their 3 players (Wayne and Joe) who were unable to make it. Up stepped Peter Campbell as reserve to help out Ted Fairman. However season form played out as The Young Ones raced into a 4-0 lead with Kane winning both his... singles matches. Ted had the last laugh with a battling win in the final frame for the evening against Cooper. So the 4-1 match score was enough to see The Young Ones jump up to 1st place although they have played a game more than most other teams. 2 breaks tonight of 18 by Christiano and Ted sees them both now share the top spot in the handicap break with a total of 58. Next week sees defending champions Kilted Dragons against 2nd bottom Assassins.

22.01.2022 147 at Snooker World Championships by John Higgins. Great shot on 56 to make it happen.

22.01.2022 Sunday 30th August Two Sponsored Sunday events running. Event 1 - 8 players in 2 groups of 4 round robin single frame matches. 9.30am to 1.15pm (final). 2 spots remaining.... Event 2 - 8 players in 2 groups of 4 round robin single frame matches. 2pm to 5.45pm (final). 6 spots remaining. This is two separate events to ensure we comply with 10 person organised gathering restrictions. Guaranteed 3 frames. Each Competition: $10 entry. Winner $50. Runner Up $30. Semi Finalists $20. Best Handicap Break $10. Nominations (members only) in advance by email to [email protected]

20.01.2022 The final round of the regular season in the Des Turner Teams Event started tonight with the 1st match between ARMed & Dangerous and Rocket Men. With Mark Johnson working, Ryan Cretan made the journey from Brisbane to partner Austin Taylor against Rod Smith and Mitch Gorrick. Tony Hill was unable to attend. Rocket Rod Smith guided his team to a narrow 3-2 victory by winning both his singles along with the all important doubles match.... The result sees Rocket Men leapfrog ARMed & Dangerous from 3rd to 2nd place. They have an unlikely outside chance of 1st place if JNJ collapse in their last match. The next 2 matches have both been switched from Wednesdays to one single evening on Monday 9th November. 1st place JNJ take on defending champions Kilted Dragons who are struggling back in 6th place. And 5th placed Unjagables play the already doomed last placed Blackjacks.

20.01.2022 Congratulations to Ray Wilcher for winning the Club Handicap Billiards Championship today He beat young junior Cooper Thomson in the final by 200 - 121. At one stage it looked like a shock was on the cards when Cooper, who had been playing well in previous rounds, lead by 109 - 39 but Ray started to play well and, once he caught up, there was only going to be one outcome.

19.01.2022 Congratulations to Mark Johnson for winning the George Hendrickson All-In Club Handicap Championship this afternoon. In yet another close final (our 4th final recently to go all the way to a final frame), Mark was able to scrape past Jessica Woods by 4 frames to 3. To celebrate the 4 Champions from the championships played over the past few weeks, we dedicate our Snooker Monthly front cover to the all finalists and the referees.

18.01.2022 Our October edition of Snooker Monthly celebrates the successful running of the Eamonn Duff Championship. The event was divided into 2 tournaments to ensure that players in NSW and QLD got the chance to complete whilst we adhered to all the COVID restrictions. Once again, we would like to express our gratitude to Southport Snooker Club for offering their venue and supporting us to deliver a fantastic event.... Congratulations to all our finalists and to the 2 winners, Stuart Bowers (NSW) and Adam Waller (QLD).

18.01.2022 After the excitement of the Eamonn Duff Championship last weekend, tonight it was back to the Des Turner Teams Event. Hard Workers took on Assassins in a match between two of the lower ranked teams. In the end, Assassins prevailed 3-2 to guarantee 8th spot which gets them into the finals on Sunday 29th November. The loss for Hard Workers, who had Desmond Turner to thank for his 2 singles wins, means they slip back to 7th spot.... Next week sees 2nd placed Young Ones take on 5th placed Unjagables.

16.01.2022 UPDATE: Winner of B Grade Championship is Mitch Gorrick who beat Jack Malone 3-2 in the final. Congrats to both players. ********* B Grade Scratch Club Championships are this Sunday 18th October.... 10 players are entered in a straight knockout draw of Best of 3 matches. Final will be Best of 5. 3 juniors (Nero Hanna, Chris De Azevedo, and Cooper Thomson) are entered which shows their own development is coming along well. All 3 will be hard to beat. Draw and live results can be found here. https://challonge.com/BSCRCHAMP2020

16.01.2022 Against an ever changing and uncertain environment with new border closures announced today, we managed to resume the Des Turner Teams Event tonight. It may be one match and we may need to stop again if players cannot travel over the border....who knows. But we are one match closer to completion!! Tonight saw Unjagables play Hard Workers. Things felt normal for a couple of hours as Greeny pulled out his outrageous jags from practically the first shot of the night.... The match result was tight at the end but Unjagables raced into a quick 3-0 lead to secure the win before Des and Adam notched the final 2 frames to make the scoreline respectable. We hope to play the 2nd match of Round 8 next Wednesday between Blackjacks and The Young Ones.

15.01.2022 Latest update on the Eamonn Duff 2020. Quite incredibly we have 71 entries. 36 in Banora for the NSW event and 35 in Southport for the QLD event. Banora event is now full. Only 1 more spot remains for the QLD event. ... Payment details have been sent out by email. If you haven't yet paid, please organise payment asap.

14.01.2022 Whilst we cannot have any certainty on the running of this event, we are committed to hosting this as scheduled. In the event that we cannot do this, we will look at alternative options open to us or we will reschedule. Nominations are now being taken. Nominations can only be accepted by email to [email protected] Full details and conditions of play are available by request.... No payment being taken until September.

13.01.2022 Round 10 kicked off tonight in the Des Turner Teams Event with a match between Rocket Men and Unjagables. Unjagables unveiled their new star signing Ray Wilcher tonight to fill the gap due to Luke being unable to play. However The Rocket Men did not roll out the welcome mat as they ran out 4-1 winners. Key result was Tony Hill who managed to just hold off Ray with the help of a large start to win by 1 single point.... Captain 'Rocket' Rod Smith led the way with 2 solid singles wins to see his team leapfrog Unjagables into 4th place in the ladder. Unjagables drop to 6th but look quite comfortable in the race for the finals. Next week sees double defending champions Kilted Dragons, in 5th place, up against 7th placed Hard Workers.

12.01.2022 Round 8 of the Des Turner Teams Event was concluded tonight with reigning champions Kilted Dragons taking on an Assassins team who were desperately seeking their first win of the season. The doubles was a long drawn out struggle of over an hour with Graham and Jimmy Thomson from Kilted Dragons chasing for snookers. The 40 start was just too much and Tea and Terry eventually potted the pink to secure the opening frame. From there, things went from bad to worse as Graham Wilson... (Rhonda Wilson) lost his singles to Tea Smith and then Paul Thommo Thomas lost his 2 singles matches. His 2nd frame was particularly hard to take as he needed a snooker on the blue, saw Terry Malone go in off and then Paul potted blue, pink and black only to see the white agonisingly drift to the corner pocket, stop on the lip, and then fall in. That left Ray Gocke from Assassins looking for a final frame win for a whitewash but Jimmy, defending his own 100% singles win record for the season, was in no mood to let that happen. Breaks of 23 and a 33 clearance saw Jimmy rescue a frame for the champs. But the big winners on the night were Assassins who gave their finals hopes a big boost with the 4-1 result. Next up on Wednesday 26th is Round 9 opening match between JNJ and Unjagables.

12.01.2022 There was a bottom of the table match in the Des Turner Teams Challenge where both teams were fighting for survival. And, as you would expect, it went all the way to the last few balls as Assassins scraped home 3-2. Tea and Terry of the Assassins raced into a 2-0 lead before Blackjacks launched their fightback with Ted and Joe narrowly winning the next 2 frames to tie it up and 2-2 going into the 5th frame decider.... In the end Terry held off Ted to sneak home with a 7 point margin to secure the 3-2 victory which just about assures Assassins make the finals and consigns Blackjacks to an early exit. Next week sees 8th placed Assassins back up with a match against 6th placed Hard Workers.

11.01.2022 Round 9 of the Des Turner Teams Event wrapped up tonight with the 3rd match of the round between high flying The Young Ones against ARMed & Dangerous. Both teams are quite comfortably in the top 4 of the table but it's time to lay down some markers against your immediate challengers for the title. ARMed & Dangerous have lost Ryan Cretan after his move to Brisbane and border restrictions preventing him coming down. However the lesser spotted Austin Taylor was finally tracked d...own to make sure he was there on the night along with Mark Johnson. And Austin was in top form as he won both his singles and the doubles to ensure a narrow 3-2 win over Cooper, Kane and Christiano of The Young Ones. Highlight of the night was a 32 break from Austin but that still falls short in the race for the high break which sits with Jessica Woods (34). Next week sees Round 10 kick off with Rocket Men vs Unjagables.

10.01.2022 Congratulations to Jessica Woods on winning the A Grade Club Championship today with a 4-3 win over Jimmy Thomson in the final. The match took about 4 hours and was a real battle for most of it but Jessica was able to come from 2-0 down and 3-2 down to secure the title. Big thanks to Bryne Smith and Desmond Turner for their refereeing of the semi finals and the final. Well done also to semi finalists Paul Beggs and Ray Wilcher.

09.01.2022 Big day on Saturday with the End of Year Christmas Competition with 25 members involved. And then our dinner and presentation dinner to over 50 guests. Draw is attached and live results can be found here: https://clubbanorasnooker.weebly.com/20201.html

08.01.2022 Round 9 Match B tonight went all the way to a respotted black to get a winner. Bottom placed Blackjacks were desperate to get their first win of the season against mid-table Rocket Men. Joe Caridi played with a broken wrist in a cast but still managed to pot the final black against Rocket Rod Smith to grab their first win and given Blackjacks some hope to making the finals.

07.01.2022 Our A Grade Club Championship is running this weekend. Here are the draws with planned match times for Saturday and Sunday. The winner only from each group will progress to the semi finals on Sunday 1st November. Live link to the results is here: https://challonge.com/AGRDSCRCHAMP2020... The room capacity has been increased to 12 from Saturday onwards.

05.01.2022 A very successful resumption of our sponsored Sunday comps with two events running today to adhere to restrictions on gatherings. Winners were Mark Johnson (event 1) and Graham Wilson (event 2). Runners up were Grant Schirmer and Jessica Woods. Big thank you to Brian Green and Len Caccioppoli for all their refereeing throughout the day. ... We will run another Sponsored Sunday on 27th September. See more

04.01.2022 Great day of snooker today as we celebrated Bryne Smith OBE (Over Bloody Eighty) Day with 2 Sponsored Sunday Events. Here is the latest Snooker Monthly front cover hot off the press. Event 1 was won by Brian Green over young Cooper Thomson. Event 2 was won by Jimmy Thomson who got the better of Mark Johnson on the black.... Results can be found here: https://challonge.com/BSOBESS1/groups https://challonge.com/BSOBESS2/groups

04.01.2022 The latest match in the Des Turner Teams Event tonight saw Unjagables take on The Young Ones. With Jack Malone missing this week, it was down to Brian Green and Ray Wilcher to battle the lads who have been flying high in 2nd place. A close doubles match came down to the black as Ray potted the final 3 balls, including a great pink, to win by a single point. The clearance proved to be a key moment as the singles were shared 2-2 to give Unjagables a narrow, but important, 3-2 v...ictory. Chris and Cooper both got the better of Ray with big wins but Greeny notched both his frames against Kane and then Chris in the decider. The Young Ones remain in 2nd having played all their matches now and Unjagables sit comfortably in mid table 5th spot. Next week sees 3rd placed ARMed & Dangerous against table toppers JNJ.

03.01.2022 Well what a huge long weekend of competitive snooker at the Eamonn Duff 2020 Championships in Southport and Banora. In the QLD event in Southport it was a dominating performance by top seed Adam Waller as he saw off all challengers to only drop 1 frame throughout the whole tournament. And Jayden Dinga continued his rise with a great win in the Consolation. Big thanks to Steven Springer and all members of Southport Snooker & Billiards Club for the use of their venue. And to ...our QLD based Banora members for running it so well. In Banora, Jack Malone took out the Consolation event this morning before the main event between Joe Darby and Stuart Bowers. It all came down to the 5th frame pink after both players had their chances. Congratulations to Stuart Bowers for his win. Special mention to referees Bryne Smith and Steve Springer in Southport. And Peter Taylor along with Desmond Turner for Banora. Will add some photos from Southport when I get them. In the meantime here are some images from Banora. Final thanks to the management of Twin Towns, all players and to our sponsors.

03.01.2022 For the first time this season we had a forfeited match in the Des Turner Teams Event. With her brother Jonny on honeymoon, Jessica Woods was left on her own after Nero Hanna was a late call off due to being unwell. So it was a straightforward 5-0 walkover for Mark Johnson and Austin Taylor of ARMed & Dangerous.... This closes the gap considerably for 2nd placed ARMed & Dangerous and leaves JNJ in danger of missing out on top spot at the end of the regular season unless they can win against reigning champs Kilted Dragons. ARMed & Dangerous are back on again next week against 4th placed Rocket Men.

03.01.2022 The latest Snooker Monthly Front Cover for August is now out. Who would have thought that Jack Malone would ever be front cover material? It's a strange world right now so anything is possible! It's great to have the Des Turner Teams Event back up and running on Wednesday evenings with the season running all the way through to mid November.... All the latest results can be found here: https://clubbanorasnooker.weebly.com/2020-season-1---draw--

01.01.2022 As a result of stricter restrictions on gatherings of no more than 10 people, our events will be limited to 10 players with immediate effect. Therefore, we need to reduce the limit of 16 down to 10. Your committee will consider what options are viable to ensure we keep as many of you playing as we can until restrictions ease again.

01.01.2022 This past Saturday 19th December we ran the End of Year Comp to 25 players. In the main comp, it was congratulations to Darren Harris for his win over Brian Green in the final. The consolation comp was won by Graham Wilson who beat Rod Marquardt in the final. ... Here are some pics from the day. We will post the presentation dinner photos later in the week.
