25.01.2022 A letter to our club president in 1992 Ian Ramsdell in response asking for support from the Club De L’Epagneul Breton in France, to give the true name of our breed when the name change took place. The breed for many years was called Brittany Spaniel then it was changed to Brittany because the word spaniel did not describe our dogs as spaniels are a flushing dogs and ours point. Ian and the club felt that The name Brittany did not describe our dogs good enough as it’s only a p...lace and in Brittany France there are many other breeds with ( Brittany / Breton) as part of the name describing only where they’ve come from. The club not successful in having the breed name changed but was able to call our club the correct name to represent the breed. This was only one of many letters sent all over Europe from Ian with no internet just hand written letters. Ian worked tirelessly for the club and the breed.

19.01.2022 The late Jack Thompson on the left, Jack together with Mr Ian Waldren imported the first Brittanys (Brittany Spaniels) as they were known. Jack bred, showed, and trialed his dogs and was also a field trial judge. On the right is Mr Ian Ramsdell first president of the club and held that position for many years. Ian retired now ( from gun dogs) was very involved with the breed he loves and worked tirelessly in promoting the breed for many years. He was also a multi trial winner... winning many trials with his famous dog Ailetireur Noir Canard (Tom) which was inducted to the trial winner hall of fame. 18.01.2022 Here is some history for you. First field trial for the club restricted to breed. Field trialing is not so popular here now but it used to be. This was not a big entry but consider that the breed had only been here a few years and was restricted to breed.... The Breton has always held its own in the trial scene with many dogs being awarded various winnings in field and retrieving.
