09.01.2022 This week the National Rugby League’s (NRL) ‘Women in League Round’ will continue to celebrate the vital contribution women have made to the game. Melbourne Storm, in particular, has taken this opportunity to highlight their longstanding relationship with Club Respect and our parent organisation, the Victorian Women’s Trust. The Club Respect model of helping sports clubs build and maintain a deep culture of respect has been influenced greatly by Melbourne Storm. In 2016, Pete...r Robinson ‘Robbo’ and Brian Phelan ‘BP’ from Melbourne Storm joined Club Respect’s ‘Critical Friends Group’. The wisdom and experience of this group led to the launch of Club Respect in 2018 at AAMI Park, the home of Melbourne Storm. This year Robbo and BP joined Club Respect’s Panel of Expertise, a community sports initiative providing practical guidance to grassroots sport clubs around the country. Melbourne Storm’s partnership with our parent organisation kicked off 10 years ago when the two combined, along with NIRODAH, to deliver ‘Be the Hero’, a violence prevention program for men and boys. The impact was significant for the thousands of high school students and the young Melbourne Storm recruits who helped facilitate the program.
