03.01.2022 The" SQUASHIES" This is a recognition of what Squash has meant to the club over the years and the amazing friendships that have flourished among this fun yet very competitive group of members. The Squashies, who wish to remain anonymous, have played squash at Club Sierra for over 30 years but some of this group have been here for longer. Club Sierra was opened in the mid 70s as a Squash Centre and there were 6 courts. The Tuesday night competition has been running ever s...ince. There have been many who played metro pennants against other Perth clubs with great success over the years. Many have also entered both the WA and Australian Masters competitions in Perth and Darwin, with a few wins. The love of squash brought this group together, and it is the friendships formed amongst the group that we want to celebrate this month. They also socialise off the court with their partners, and have had a few great trips away together. These include wine tours of the Swan Valley and Margaret River, several Mediterranean cruises, Oktoberfest and Mexican nights, as well as casual long lunches. The spark of their catch-ups is a mixture of fun, energy and a nip of alcohol. A few players have moved away from the hills over the years but they are still happy to travel up the hill a few times per week to have a game here because of the camaraderie that exists. Thank you to all the Squashies and every one of the members who are part of the squash community. You are all very valued members of the Club.
