25.01.2022 Does your jaw pop, click or feel sore in the mornings? Do you know if you’re grinding your teeth at night or constantly clenching? It’s important to have your jaw checked out by a chiropractor as jaw pain can lead to a number of chronic complications including headaches and tooth damage

25.01.2022 Spent the weekend learning about the latest ways to treat lower limb conditions from some of the best chiropractors in Australia. It was also great learning some techniques from our podiatrist Steve from Medisport. I'm one step closer to becoming a sports chiropractor and can't wait to share these latest tools with you guys

23.01.2022 Assessment of the biomechanical chain is important when treating certain types of injuries. Chiropractors focus on both the closed and open kinetic chain functionalities. Most injuries will have a primary and secondary source. Functional movement patterns should be used such as a squat or hip extension to assess injuries such as knee pain or even back pain. Impairment of one or more kinetic chain links can create dysfunctional biomechanical output leading to pain ...and/or injury. A logical progression focusing on flexibility, strength, proprioception, and endurance with kinetic chain influence is recommended. See more

23.01.2022 Knowledge is the key to understanding how your body works. It was great talking to the dancers at ED5INTERNATIONAL on how injuries can occur and the preventative techniques you can make. Thanks for having the MediSport Clinic team and good luck with the rest of the year!

23.01.2022 When athletes come in with certain injuries it's always important to assess the spine, pelvis and other structures in the positions they use most. Luke is an amateur boxer on the verge of turning pro who came in with low back pain. Using rehabilitation and various treatment techniques, Luke was back in the ring in no time!

22.01.2022 BE | AWARE It is important when performing daily activities to be aware of your centre of gravity in relation to your posture/position. Bracing your core, hinging your hips and switching on your glutes correctly at all times will reduce the likelihood of a back injury. ... Every day I see patients who cant understand why their back pain continues to return despite seeing a manual therapist.Simply put, if you do not have the correct foundations correct in place, pain will continue to return. Being aware and understanding how your body moves and what it doesnt like is critical. If you do feel pain performing daily activities it is probably your body telling you it doesnt like the position it is in. Listen to your body and adjust by bracing your core and bending at your hips. Dont push through that pain! For this video, I have only shown a few examples of correct and incorrect posture during daily activities. There are many more regular instances where it is important to understand where your centre of gravity is and adjust accordingly. If youre experiencing pain during daily activities, feel free to contact me for more help/guidance/tips. Stay safe, stay healthy

20.01.2022 PREVENTION RATHER THAN CURE | Pain can be an indicator of damage which has been done to your body. Don't wait for pain to arise before seeing your chiropractor. Regular treatments including strengthening the core/gluteal muscles, mobilisations of the restricted joints and releasing those tight areas will prevent your body from the injuries you don't want in the future.

18.01.2022 Always a pleasure working with @nathanbrown1. Congratulations on the leadership role at @theparraeels. 2020 NRL season is going to be big!

18.01.2022 Happy 2017 to all my wonderful patients! Just a friendly reminder that an important part of chiropractic treatment is to "prevent" injuries before they actually occur. Start your year by focusing on a healthier you

17.01.2022 UNLOCK YOUR HAMSTRINGS| Tight hamstrings are a fairly common issue for majority of people ranging from office workers to Olympic athletes. There are many reasons why your hamstring can become tight and these are explained below. If you feel you are performing a static stretch and still not getting any relief try these band exercises which will enforce different functionalities of the hamstring muscle. Each exercise should be performed with 3 sets of 10 repet...itions on both legs. Reason 1: Neural Tension - This is tension experienced by tension on the Sciatic Nerve. This nerve runs from the back and down the leg and is largely responsible for 'Sciatica'. Muscle tightness is often the first sign of neural tension, and that tension can be caused by a number of reasons including disc herniations, piriformis syndrome, etc. Reason 2: Motor Control Issue - This has to do with your ability to stabilise your spine adequately for hip mobility. In the same way that your core strength will limit your squat strength potential, your body will use the hamstrings to help support the torso if your core muscles are not strong enough. Core strengthening exercises should always be incorporated in your daily stretch program. Reason 3: The most often assumed but probably the least common issue is an ACTUAL hamstring shortening via muscle contracture. This will limit both your active and passive range of motion. These are the cases where stuff like foam rolling and stretching come in handy. See more

17.01.2022 Research suggests low to moderate aerobic exercise appears to improve mood states, reduces the risk of chronic diseases and lowers medication prescriptions for low back pain patients. Try something as simple as running or swimming twice a week and enjoy the benefits of a healthier lifestyle.

13.01.2022 Can't get rid of that stubborn shoulder pain? Another patient of mine came to the clinic with a re-occurring rotator cuff injury. I used different modalities such as active dynamic cupping, electrical nerve stimulation, dry needling and chiropractic manipulation of the cervical and thoracic spine in the early stages. His range of motion in his shoulder improved and his pain reduced within weeks. It's always important to follow up with strengthening exercises of those muscles that were previously injured

10.01.2022 Congratulations to my patient Luke on making the under 18s Rugby Federation Italian team. Luke suffered a hamstring tear in one of his matches and through regular treatment including cupping and other techniques he was back to the field as fast as possible. Cupping has a range of benefits such as breaking down scar tissue and adhesions in the fascia and creating new blood flow to injured areas, ultimately speeding recovery time. Just ask Phelps and his 5 gold medals!!

08.01.2022 A reduction in thoracic mobility can have a number of negative impacts on the body. Some of these include: poor posture as a result of rounded shoulders and forward head carriage, reduced shoulder mobility, stiffness through the rib joints making it harder to breathe and changes to your pelvic structure leading to low back pain. Try these 4 thoracic mobility exercises twice per day and develop a routine around a proper breathing pattern and good mobility of the mid back. Each exercise should be performed with 15 reps on each arm, inhale before each rep and exhale during.

08.01.2022 Congratulations to my patient Antonio on making it to the national swimming championships in Brisbane. Good luck over the weekend and it's been a privilege in helping you reach your optimal peak performance level

02.01.2022 If you're experiencing some form of heel pain, difficulty walking or running or notice any visible swelling around the ankle you may be suffering from Achilles tendinitis. Although dry needling looks painful, it's a great form of treatment for this certain issue as well as other treatment modalities

02.01.2022 ACTIVATE I REPOSITION If you are experiencing shoulder pain, neck pain or noticing your shoulders rolled forward, try this simple exercise at home (you do not need a band-hold onto anything!) Due to repetitive poor movement patterns, the shoulder blades tend to become misaligned and the surrounding muscles become weak. This then leads to instability, pinching and inflammation. ... I refer to the shoulder blade and surrounding muscles as the core of the upper body. If you are able to strengthen and stabilise this area, you will have less rounded shoulders and a better upright posture. Start this exercise by standing in an upright position, looking straight ahead and engaging your abdominal core. Hold on to the band and keep your arm straight. Roll the entire arm/shoulder forward accentuating the shoulder being placed in a poor position (thumb down). The main part of the exercise is rolling the entire arm/shoulder backward (thumb up), engaging all your shoulder blade muscles. Try and feel the muscles activating as you squeeze and hold the stretch for 5 seconds. Repeat this movement 10 times, at least twice per day on both shoulders. Stay safe, stay healthy See more
