04.01.2022 HOT WEATER ALERT - PLEASE PROVIDE WATER FOR BEES (And all aminals) - So on hot days bees use water as a evaporative cooling system - A big hive will use well over 1 litre of water in a day - Water that is over 100m from the hive is too taxing on hot days and shortens the life of the bee - but too close make flying to it awkward also... - Bees prefer water that is NOT fresh from the tap - Bees prefer a water source that is to the side or behind the hive (as the toilet straight out the front) - Bees can drown in big expanded of water. Provide pebbles, layers, floating things, sticks, a gradual shore for their safety See more
