19.01.2022 Hello lovely Geelong community, IMPORTANT theres a Facebook post going around asking people to copy and post some suicide prevention numbers. The number that is included as the Suicide Helpline is not correct. It didnt look right when we saw it and so we googled it. It appears to be a number from India.... We just wanted to post this as a warning - many scammers find their victims through copy and post posts. Especially ones with strange sets of characters, like phone numbers or emojis. This makes it easy for them to search for Facebook profiles. Its called fishing. We dont know if that post is one of those, but what we can say is that the numbers for suicide prevention in Australia are: SuicideLine 1300 651 251 Suicide Call Back Service 1300 659 467 Please dont copy and post that post if it has the wrong number on it We would hate for a vulnerable person to call it.

15.01.2022 If you have half an hour to spare, this is a great interview that NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Arden did with Clinical Psychologist Nigel Latta. They discuss ways to cope throughout this trying time.

13.01.2022 We are on the lookout for our next paediatric superstar at CMG. If you, or anyone you know might be suitable for this position, please forward this ad to them and we would love to view yours or their application. In support of our community, we are opening this opportunity to Geelong psychologists, but would be happy to look further afield for the right person.

13.01.2022 Thanks to the Black Dog Institute, here are some great mental health resources to support you during this time.

10.01.2022 The Australian government recently announced a $1.1b health package, and the good news is that during this crisis you are now able to access psychological support via Telehealth. So that you are not out of pocket, Telehealth sessions will be bulk-billed. If you are feeling the need to get support with caring for your mental health at this time, speak with your doctor who can arrange a mental health plan.

10.01.2022 "Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet. "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I dont think I do." ..."Thats okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often dont feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know youve got someone there for you. And Ill always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right." 04.01.2022 Lets talk mental health , because now (more than ever) is the time to start caring for yours. Most of us have plans for looking after our physical health, but do you have a plan for your mental health? Self-care is one very important way you can safe-guard your mental health. Why not start preparing a list of things you can do to self-care while isolating? You can practice self-care every single day and over the coming weeks we will expand on some of the concepts liste...d here. So here are our suggestions. If youve found something else that works for you, feel free to add a comment here: limit news, current affairs, and social media if you feel overwhelmed. Check facts daily on health.vic.gov find three things you are grateful for get enough sleep, and on that note; ensure you have good sleep hygiene move your body watch half an hour of comedy declutter wear your favourite item of clothing put fresh linen on your bed practice mindfulness eat mindfully and intuitively learn and practice diaghrammatic breathing get out your finest China tea cup (you know, the one you never use) and make a cup of tea for yourself cut flowers from the garden and put them in a vase dig in the dirt/garden (very grounding, literally) jump on the kids trampoline dance to your favourite music write draw/make craft face time with family/friends pat a pet emotion-surf find a quiet space read listen to music keep up personal hygiene set small, achievable goals you would like to achieve and then make a start cook your favourite meal Well, thats a lot to start with. Feel free to add any if you wish and lets help each other help ourselves through this. See more

03.01.2022 This is good news for Victorians As from this Friday, the Federal Government will fund Medicare rebates for a further 10 sessions under a Mental Health Plan. Thats a total of 20 sessions with a psychologist funded by Medicare.... Now is the time to start caring for your mental health. Dont leave it until you are in crisis. To discuss a Mental Health Plan, see your doctor.

03.01.2022 Self-care is a term that is often used, and which typically brings to mind images of bubble baths and face masks. But there is so much more we can do to care for ourselves, especially now. Here are some great examples.
