22.01.2022 Read how the Dutch safety board recently reported the government needs to do more to ensure emerging food safety risks are identified systematically and in a timely manner, Like other countries, the Netherlands has been hit by a number of food safety scares in recent years, and illegal practices are having an impact on public confidence. But the challenge remains, "how are regulatory bodies suppose to assess and detect emerging food safety risks when there is no legal frame...work, it costs money, and benefits of doing so are not clear?" This is where emerging technology companies like Compliance Master could hold the key. Advancements in smart A.I. auditing technology now makes it possible to accurately assess and identify emerging food safety risks before they can adversely impact on public health. 22.01.2022 For too long compliance has been treated like the poor kid on the block. But times change. And now, driven by increasing government regulations, customer demands and larger non-compliance penalties, compliance is finally receiving the respect it deserves. Which finds many organisations questioning how best to improve their compliance management capabilities. In this article, I outline how recent advancements in smart, Computer Aided Auditing Technology (CAAT) can help organisations significantly improve their compliance performance by focusing their limited monitoring and improvement resources on their areas of highest risk exposure. http://www.compliance-master.com//its-time-for-a-complianc

19.01.2022 http://www.compliance-master.com//crossing-the-aged-care-c A simple 3-step template to help Australian aged-care providers successfully transition to the new quality standards; which come into effect on the 1st July'19. Selecting the right self-assessment tool can help reduce the time and effort needed to identify compliance gaps and to quickly demonstrate a providers' compliance to external assessors; which is a major requirement of the government's tighter accreditation regime.

17.01.2022 James Riley takes a swipe at the Australian government's knee-jerk introduction of new social media laws following the tragic mosque shootings that took place in Christchurch recently. Once again, political point-scoring takes precedence over common sense.

17.01.2022 Good reasons why Australian aged-care providers need to start taking compliance seriously. At a recent Criterion Governance in Aged Care conference held in Sydney, Pam Christie, executive director, industry engagement and communications with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission @AgedCareQuality, stated "We do expect a spike in non-compliance, and that’s what everybody does expect. She then qualified this statement by saying If it is an isolated incident of non compliance and the provider had a good history of compliance, then the response is going to be different than if we’re very concerned about safety". 13.01.2022 Despite increasing regulatory risks many enterprises continue to manage their compliance performance in divisions, departments, branches, units etc. Which often leads to high process duplication, inconsistent reporting and worse still suboptimal decision-making. A more efficient and effective approach is to consolidate enterprise compliance monitoring, analysis and improvement functions under an Integrated Compliance Management Framework (ICMF). In this article I provide a guide on how to implement an effective ICMF in 6 steps and what to avoid along the way. https://compliance-master.com//build-an-integrated-compli/

11.01.2022 New Victorian legislation could see employers jailed for up to 10 years for deliberate wage theft. The law, which includes fines of up to $991,320 for companies, has been opposed by industry groups that say it will duplicate the already complex workplace laws and similar legislative changes currently under consideration by the Federal government. The new legislation is the Victorian government's response to several recent major underpayment scandals involving some of Austra...lia's largest companies i.e. Coles, Woolworths, QANTAS, Wesfarmers, etc. Despite its heavy fines and criminal penalties critics of the new legislation say proving employers have deliberately under-paid employees in a court or law is going be very difficult; despite Attorney-General Jill Hennessy saying the current federal laws have failed to prevent the exploitation of Victorian workers. As previously reported in this blog, any increase in regulatory oversight and penalties in relation to wage compliance is likely to lead to an increase in payroll auditing service providers. 09.01.2022 Newmarch House’s failure to accurately assess its readiness for a COVID-19 outbreak in response to a self-assessment questionnaire from the federal aged-care regulator shouldn’t come as a surprise. Without having to provide proof of compliance against clearly defined criteria self-assessments can be a complete waste of time. And, as we have seen in this case, lead to tragic consequences. It’s time for the regulator to get smarter about how it requires aged-care providers to self-assess and provide proof of their compliance with government regulations and standards, and how they monitor the veracity of this information. #COVID19 #newmarchhouse #Compliancemanagement #regulation #RegTech ://www.smh.com.au/national/newmarch-house-gave-itself-marks-for-covid-19-readiness-then-the-outbreak-happened-20200811-p55ki9.html

07.01.2022 As governments begin to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and start to examine what went wrong the transmission risks associated with an increasingly casualised workforce cannot be ignored. New legislation requiring large employers to implement pandemic plans is one likely outcome, but the high costs of implementation could limit its effectiveness and long-term benefits. Regtech's ability to reduce pandemic compliance and transmission risks could hold the answer but until now governments and employers have been slow to embrace the technology. Hopefully, this will change before we experience another pandemic, which is sure to come.
