Don’t forget the hashtag #StopCMV June is CMV Awareness month!... Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the most common infectious cause of disabilities in newborn babies. 1 to 2 children are born with disabilities from congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) every day in Australia alone. It causes deafness, blindness, seizures, global developmental delay, dyspraxia, cerebral palsy, miscarriage, stillbirth, intellectual disability, processing issues, feeding problems and death. Until a successful vaccine is developed, being aware of the virus and the simple ways to minimise risk of contracting it will help to significantly reduce the number of babies born with congenital CMV. 09.01.2022 A beautiful segment on the project tonight about another young family affected by congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV).... Thank you Ami Slik, Willow and Jesse Taylor for helping raise awareness about the most common cause of disabilities to newborn babies from a virus or infection during pregnancy. cCMV not only causes hearing impairment/deafness, intellectual disabilities and an enlarged liver though. It is also a cause of cerebral palsy, still birth, dyspraxia, apraxia, autism..., epilepsy/seizures and death amongst other diagnosis. In Australia alone at least 400 children and their families are affected every single year by congenital CMV for the rest of their lives. We have heard so much about covid 19 this year, if only people knew as much about congenital CMV and the devastating affects and the heartache it has continued to cause so many families all over the world.....
