25.01.2022 Every coach needs a coach love these 2 in our online zoom sessions!! #Repost @coach_janne_ Animal flow with @coach_fi_keabs from @realbodymovement ... It definitely doesn't look as sexy as it feels Lots of work to do but hands down one of the best things to rebuild strength in my left shoulder and learning to coordinate movements. 24.01.2022 Kettlebell Flow... a great way to win your Thursday. Love coaching this class #kettlebelltraining @realbodymovement

24.01.2022 The Turkish Get-Up... a true reflection of mobility and demonstration of strength. I can’t express how much I love teaching this class and today when @mattyk0 took the class I had the pleasure to roll out some sweet new warm up drills to the crew. Running a class with my partner in training crime is fun #Repost @coach_janne_ The music is way too happy and does not reflect on the level of bad-assery i felt after doing 3 TGU with 16kg each side.... But it does show how happy I am doing what I love with @ninjanick83 by my side Rebuilding my strength (which was always my strength ) has become fun and I have set myself some decent goals again. PS @coach_fi_keabs I'd like to change it to 24kg TGU - 20 seems too easy now #progress #turkishgetup #stability #strength #core #8moves #functionalstrength

17.01.2022 love this... #Repost @realbodymovement >> HEARD IT ON THE GYM FLOOR... Life can throw some s**t. There’s no two ways about it. Being active and taking care of our mind and body helps us manage the stresses in life, as does sharing with the tribe because, well, sharing is caring and we’re all friends here. But when training begins, the gym floor is a space to focus inward. Precious time you’ve set aside for you. We often use just a little bit a breath work at the beginning of classes as a reminder to bring the focus back. It’s time to be selfish. Lock in. Load up. Kick some butt. #hearditonthegymfloor #realbodymovement See more

17.01.2022 I have loved teaching this program with @mattyk0 and can’t wait to roll out another one in 2021..!! #Repost @realbodymovement The Real Body Movement Intern Program ... Weeks 8 & 9 were all things Prehab Assessment. They assessed each other then had to assess a friend or family member. Some had some really unique movements to assess with their client which made them think outside the box in yesterday’s workshop where we all programmed a custom program for their client des...igned based on the movement assessment findings. This Internship has been amazing and we can’t wait to run more in 2021. Some of the lessons learned so far have been outstanding and it’s given those curious about coaching an insight into what a role of a coach actually looks like, plus some awesome coaching experience and education. 16.01.2022 There’s a method in our madness... too many people live their lives working through one plane of motion ... imagine sitting, driving, bike riding, walking up stairs etc... Training should allow your body to move freely through a variety of movements / planes of motion to create a body that moves as supple as a leopard with strength in those movements and also reduce pain. It’s important to build strength through the various planes of motion we don’t often find ourselves doing in day to day life so when you do move like that on the weekend (imagine shovelling) you won’t hurt yourself doing so... trust in the process #multiplanarmovement

14.01.2022 My training buddy @mattyk0 @realbodymovement .. one day we will synchronise our handstand holds in one video #upsidedown #handstandpractice

13.01.2022 Transparency a value practiced at The Real Body Movement. As a Coach, I thought long and hard about sharing this video as often there is an expectation around what a coach should lift or be competent at; however, when there has been an injury/surgery involved, we need to let our guard down and do what’s best for our body along with taking into consideration that often my training isn’t always on point as what I’d like it to be. Sometimes business gets chaotic, and our own t...raining takes a hit to ensure our tribe get the service they deserve. This doesn’t mean we aren’t training; it just means our training may not be getting us closer to our goals. It may be that it’s targeted at trialing programs to roll out in the studio or practice skills learned in new courses. May 2018, I had my lateral meniscus removed from an old injury. I wasn’t prepared for what was to come. Recovery took much longer than I first imagined. Luckily, I found a physio who had experienced the same surgery and was able to think outside the box regarding the rehab and Animal Flow was just what it needed. Christmas 2018, my goal was to get a full range of motion deep squat again our Animal Flow Instructor course was a challenge but Loaded Beast really helped me achieve this goal. End December, I sat my butt to the ground. Next challenge: remove my hip shift/imbalance, so my loaded back squat could become neat enough to squat my body weight. Numbers are totally irrelevant as it’s unique to the individual and relative to you and your body; however, this was my goal (please no judgement). After COVID caused us to sit to coach at a computer for over 3 months, improving mobility took priority in my training. Here’s the bonus the mobility training helped me with my hip shift, and a mobile body is a strong body last week, I got it! I did a back squat for 2 reps at just over my body weight! Let’s see what 2021 brings! #transparent #nojudgement #kneerehab #squat #gympie

13.01.2022 Find a moderately uncomfortable seat and sit in it... sometimes you might need pillows or cushions to change the position from painful to slightly uncomfortable but seek every chance through the day to find your uncomfortable seat and sit in it. When coaching in person or online, working on computers or checking my phone I sit in loads of different positions. You need to explore various seats to edge your way to greater mobility. Which is your most comfortable seat and what’s... your uncomfortable seat? You’ll see in this post I’ve shown some examples including a side seat, cowboy seat, crossed legged with a pillow under my bum for comfort, fisherman seat, deep squat & a Japanese seat. You can even check your phone laying on your tummy like a sphinx pose in yoga. Change it up, get comfortable in your current uncomfortable #nomorechairs #realbodymovement #getuncomfortable #consistentpersistence See more

12.01.2022 Can’t wait to teach this on Saturday... who wants to join in? #Repost @realbodymovement This Saturday we are excited to roll out our very first Foundations Course... it’s been in the making for some time, trialled and is a concept that’s come from us identifying the areas that are a little out of the ordinary to what people are used to when it comes to human movement and starting out with us. ... It’s a 2 hour course in a private setting of a small group where you’ll learn some of our foundation exercises from Animal Flow through to some staple Kettlebell exercises and the purpose behind our ethos on breath work with training and training frequency and programming. It’s a link that we’ve found was missing in the start up process of training with us because it doesn’t matter how welcoming we make our space etc it can still be overwhelming to come into a new space and learn new methods of training. So it’s here to build confidence and educate people to be more empowered when starting out in a new training space. At only $59 you can do this as a non-member to get a taste of what we do, or for the month of August you can get a FREE Foundations Course when you join on any Semi-Private PT Package plus your first week free. Message us to find out more. This Saturday’s course is 9am to 11am with our Co-Founder @coach_fi_keabs Fiona Keable. #educate #empower #evolve #animalflow #functionaltraining

08.01.2022 Don’t be afraid to ask and be proud of your choices ... it’s almost 2 years since I had my last alcoholic drink... I’m sure you’re curious and want to ask why: So... I had three wines on 21 December 2018 at a staff Christmas dinner we had for the studio team and it was our daughter’s birthday the same night. As we were leaving to head to the coast for Christmas the next day Matt and I agreed that we felt a Christmas with no alcohol was important to show our teenage kids th...at you don’t need to have alcohol at special events. Christmas and New Year went by and we both felt that there was no need to have any drinks and didn’t have a problem with this, it felt good to feel good and leading into the time of year where our clients are setting goals and wanting to make change I felt the need to continue this journey. As a coach we should practice what we preach and if I ask my clients to do something such as cut down alcohol I feel I needed to go one better and for me to cut down means to have none. We have had many family gatherings and stressful moments where in the past I may have had a drink to relax or calm the stress, but I knew it wasn’t the answer. Through using breath work and reminding myself of my values and what is important to me I have found these moments quite easy to overcome. I have other beliefs and motivators around not using alcohol as the cure for stress or as a way to down-regulate (happy to chat with you more on this in person) but in a nutshell it’s just how I roll these days. Always ask if there’s a non-alcoholic option available when you’re out for lunch or dinner, don’t feel that you HAVE to drink because your friends are. Be proud of the choices you make and don’t judge others for theirs. This is my choice and I’m ok with this. Thanks J-Beard from @beautyandthebeardeatsandevents at The Bunker today, who whipped me up this delicious mocktail to have with my lunch. Thanks for respecting my choices and making me feel I can chillax in your space with no judgement. Don’t be afraid to ask and be proud of the choices you make and accepting of others. #kombucha #nonalcoholic #pride #notgettingdementia #preservingmybraincells

07.01.2022 When using a Kettlebell for the first time it can be confusing... confusion is the state before you’re about to learn something new... so persist, it could then become frustrating... persist, as frustration is the state you’re in right before something big is about to happen. #consistentpersistence I truly love coaching this class! It’s one of the most confusing and frustrating classes if you’ve never used a Kettlebell before but once you’ve persisted and felt the float of t...he bell and the full effects of this training once the it’s done right ... it’s awesome. It requires full attention and commitment and weekly attendance to get maximum education and results / progress but it’s worth it. 5.30am & 9.15am Live Online and In-Studio Kettlebell Flow classes yesterday were pretty well a full house. Proof that persistence pays off. #kettlebells #kettlebelltraining #stateofconfusion #stateoffrustration #persist See more

06.01.2022 Loved flowing with you today @jogodsall #animalflowinstructors @realbodymovement

05.01.2022 Humility a value at The Real Body Movement @realbodymovement and of my own. It’s ok to have a healthy ego, otherwise we’d never push ourselves in training, however humility creates space to progress and work your weaknesses. After my knee operation 2 years ago it’s been a long road to regain full strength in my left knee at full range. Pre-op I was able to do controlled pistol squats on both sides without a worry. 2 years later and after the hurdles I’ve gone through during ...the rehab process I’ve still got a slightly tighter dorsi-flexion in my left ankle (only slight but I know it’s there) and due to losing a lot of muscle mass and strength in my left VMO (quad) and glute it’s still very weak at the bottom range of anything unilateral. In this video I’ve shown you the potential of a shrimp squat on my right side. However if I continued to do these and not work my left side, my left side is going to have a hard time catching up. So today after my main sets in my training session of deadlifts and dips I worked my weakness. You’ll see in the video I have demonstrated the shrimp squat on the left with 2 blocks, and that I fall slightly right at the bottom. By adding 1 more block (3 blocks) I can perform reps with control and strength avoiding any valgus knee movement (falling in) and hip shifts. So at the end of my session my last set was shrimp squats x 8 reps with 3 blocks on BOTH sides yes, my right side is just coming along for the ride, and that’s ok as the intent is to work my weakness. Super set this with Archer Push-ups on the rings it was my way of practicing exercises that need a little more work and attention. Be humble. Work your weakness and be ok with adding blocks. By doing it with less control / less blocks, we are only setting ourselves up for potential injury or failure when we try to perform the exercise in it’s full range with complete control. We are human, everyone has weaknesses, work them and reflect as you go on your progress and be proud of your tenacity. #workyourweakness #humility #shrimpsquats #gympie #gym

01.01.2022 Today’s training session for me personally made me pull my finger out of my arse and stop training within my comfort zone. Red faced and lying on the floor at the end, I knew it was just what I needed. I needed to have the hard talk to myself and just do it. Not that I haven’t been training (I have and I’m seeing some great progress in certain areas) but I really needed something that shocked the shit out of me. Coaches should all train and practice what they preach and somet...imes being at the steering wheel of a business that coaches others and we put others first because we give a shit, it’s easy to let things take over and we not schedule our priorities... which is our health / training. I think it was Stephen Covey said that we should schedule our priorities rather than prioritise our schedule. So I say this with reassurance that everyone goes through highs and lows and plateaus but it’s when we come out the other end stronger that we reap the rewards of life’s lessons. In our upcoming @realbodymovement Intern Program starting 2nd November we teach up & coming future coaches or existing coaches wanting a fresh view on the life & role of a coach that we teach all the things behind the scenes that’s required of a coach. Here’s sneak peak at some of tomorrow’s class @realbodymovement ... don’t worry, there’s modifications if you can’t do a chirpee.. it’s gonna be a ripper, featuring some sweet movement prep as normal, a little EMOM, some overhead holds and these 2 + another bonus little heart starter in an AMRAP. Do what makes you uncomfortable and grow your comfort zone.. this could mean doing our Saturday KickAss class or simply taking the step to call us about private coaching... you’ve got this! #embracethesuck #successcomesfromhardwork #chirpee #burpeepullups #kettlebellsnatch
