24.01.2022 It's time to switch off! Netflix announced Thursday it would reduce streaming rates for 30 days across Europe, which got me thinking... if Netflix can reduce their digital footprint, shouldn't we take the opportunity to do the same? I know many of us still have to work during our isolation period. But as someone who works from home a lot, I also know that my internet was slow last week and dropped out more frequently (which given I'm on the NBN is a lot!). ... So spend some time today downloading the key documents that you need. Then work offline. Login for any meetings or at regular intervals to check and send emails, but otherwise work offline. Simple right? The next part is a bit harder... turn all your devices off for a while and even switch off your wifi when you're not using it. Since we don't have long commute times and the distraction of corridor conversations, we should all have a little more time in our day. So use it - stretch, meditate, do a puzzle, read a book or an industry mag that I'm sure you have lying around, play a board game, spend time with your four and two legged kids, just be... If we're going to get some work done over the next couple of weeks, we're going to have to work together and slow down to speed up.

20.01.2022 We put our #amazingaustralianwoman and #inspirationalaustralianwoman posts on hold because well... 2020... But on the last day of Australian Women's History Month we wanted to recognise an artist in support of all of our dear friends in the arts who are doing it tough at the moment. Dame Nellie Melba was the first Australian to achieve international recognition as a classical musician. A determined woman, Melba persisted after initial setbacks to her international career and... went on to become a celebrated performer in London, greater Europe and the United States. Her charity work during World War I saw her appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1918, and was elevated to Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire in 1927 in that same year, she became the first Australia to appear on the cover of Time magazine. She was inducted onto the Victorian Honour Roll of Women in 2001, and has a Conservatorium, music hall and suburb named after her. There are also four foods that bear her name: #peachmelba #melbasauce #melagarniture and #melbatoast Dame Nellie Melba was a groundbreaker not only for women or performing artists, but for all Australians. #australianwomenshistorymonth #womenshistorymonth #womenshistory #australianwomen #inspirationalwomen #amazingwomen #thecoachingpanel #coachingcanhelp #leadership #inspiration #coach #coaching #groundbreaker #artist #charitywork #arts #artists #classicalmusician #music #dame #singer #opera #operaticsoprano

15.01.2022 If you’ve been on social media over the past few days, you could be under the impression that Aussies are having a two week holiday. But speaking to our clients, it would actually seem that most of them are just realising the benefits of flexible work arrangements for the first time. While many companies have flexible work options in some shape or form, they are implemented in such a way as to make it almost impossible for employees to use them effectively - poor technology,... poor use of technology, or little trust and support from leaders and teams. However, as this has been forced upon us people are finding what studies have demonstrated for years now, i.e. they can generally get through their work more efficiently and effectively, and finish up early to have a break, exercise, walk their dog, read or play with their kids. Australians have a reputation for working longer hours than many other countries. A lot of people wear this as a badge of honour. But I am really hopeful that our current situation allows us to take a step back and realise that we need to manage people to outcomes, not the amount of time they spend in the office.

15.01.2022 Another of our #inspirationalaustralianwomen profiles, this time for Edith Cowan OBE. You might know her from her portrait on the $50 note, or the university and Federal electoral division that carry her name. But do you know any more about her than that? A social reformer, Edith Cowan was a leading advocate for the rights of women and children. She has an impressive CV including... helping to found the Children's Protection Society in 1906, whose lobbying resulted in the cre...ation of the Children's Court the following year. She was also a co-founder of the Women's Service Guild, helped establish a state branch of the National Council of Women, and was a key figure in the creation of the King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women. Cowan became a magistrate in 1915 and in 1921 was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, becoming Australia's first female parliamentarian. During the reading of her Women's Legal Status Bill, designed to remove barriers to women entering legal and other professions, a fellow parliamentarian asked, 'Surely you do not want to bring women down to the level of men?' To which Cowan answered: 'No, I want to raise men to the level of women.' Today marks 99 years since Cowan’s election to parliament, and in many ways, we still have a long way to go before men and women are truly equal in society and leadership. If there’s one thing we can take from the example of Edith Cowan, it’s that the changes we need may take a marathon effort, and require stepping outside of what’s expected. #australianwomenshistorymonth #womenshistorymonth #womenshistory #australianwomen #womeninleadership #inspirationalwomen #amazingwomen #leadership #diversity #inclusion #thecoachingpanel #coachingcanhelp #leadership #inspiration #coach #coaching #womensrights #politician #femaleleader #femalepolitician #parliamentarian

07.01.2022 With all the technology available to us now, it is practically impossible to be socially distant and it's not technically social distance we need right now, but physical distance. Humans are social creatures, so let's embrace the tools available to us - social media, video conferencing, telephone, email, text, instant messaging - to stay connected with each other and help family, friends and colleagues through this tough time. Feel like you need a screen break? Why not wri...te someone a letter? The postal service is still running in most countries and think about kids home from school who might love to receive a letter in the mail or elderly relatives who may not have access to a computer. If you don't have anyone to write to, reach out to local nursing homes, community groups or not for profits, they may know of someone who could really benefit from knowing someone out there cares about them right now. #PhysicalDistancing #notsocialdistancing #COVID19 #CommunitySupport #technology #SafetyFirst #socialhumans #socialmedia #screenbreak #writealetter #showyoucare #supporteachother #flattenthecurve #mentalwellbeing #community #stayhome #stayconnected
