16.01.2022 Strategies for challenging times series - How would you treat a friend? In this series of posts I share tips that can support us during challenging times. How would you treat a friend? Research suggests that people are usually harder on themselves than they are on others. Reflecting on how kind you are capable of being toward others can remind you that you are also capable of being kind toward yourselfand that you deserve compassion, too. ... I know I have had very high expectations of myself in my work and life. This has been such a helpful reflective practice for me to be kinder and more compassionate to myself. Just as I would for others. I am a still working on this one. If you feel you need to work on this too, consider this reflection exercise: 1.First, think about times when a close friend feels really bad about him- or herself or is really struggling in some way. How do you respond to your friend in these situations (if you’re at your best)? Please write down what you typically do and say, and note the tone in which you talk to your friend. 2.Now think about times when you feel bad about yourself or are struggling. How do you typically respond to yourself in these situations? Please write down what you typically do and say, and note the tone in which you talk to yourself. 3.Did you notice a difference? If so, ask yourself why. What factors or fears come into play that lead you to treat yourself and others so differently? 4. Write down how you think things might change if you responded to yourself when you’re suffering in the same way you typically respond to a close friend. 07.01.2022 Social Media Break Taking a social media break does not need to be announced, but I would like to share my reason. I was reading some articles recently and one that I particularly enjoyed was: https://health.clevelandclinic.org/signs-you-need-to-take-/ It talked about how having a social media break supports us to get a better picture of reality and outlined 8 signs you might need a break:... 1.you can’t stop comparing 2.you start scrolling without realising it 3.you notice you are annoyed by everything you see 4.you freak out if you can’t check it 5.you spend a lot of time scrolling 6.you can’t enjoy whatever you are doing without posting about it first 7.you check it first thing in the morning and last thing at night 8.it isn’t fun For me, I have been noticing that I am scrolling more without my usual mindfulness and I am not enjoying it as I normally would. So I am taking a break from all of my socials until next Monday. Wishing all my beautiful friends a wonderful rest of week.
