24.01.2022 Working from home now eh? For those fortunate to have that option this might be of benefit. 1. Allocate a work space. Avoid turing your whole residence into an 'office.' It can spoil your home for you as a place of rest, relaxation, retreat, family, entertainment, hobbies, fun and more. ... Your home is a sacred place, not to be contaminated. Stick to one physical space where you go to do work and also come away from it. That way you can still enjoy the rest of your home (space) as it is meant to be. 2. Stick to your work pattern. Start and finish on time. Have those scheduled breaks. Avoid the temptation to give in to distractions. Dress appropriately. Complete tasks. Review how your day went under these new working conditions. 3. Have something to look forward to, simple things like breaks, phoning a friend, what to do after work. 4. Do your best to stay positive both for yourself and others. The old saying can be applied here: "Moods and attitudes are infectious, how would you like to catch yours?" 5. Take time to reflect and check in on your real feelings about what is happening for you. Be prepared to share this with another. Cheers for now, do and be your best. 23.01.2022 Not to be missed - for men too!
23.01.2022 To all my women friends (sounds ominous). Wishing you a happy International Women's Day 2016. "This institute will not accept papers that fail incorporate inclusive language." These words spoken to me as an aspiring masters student in Boston in 1987 still ring in my ears. More importantly I had no idea what a lasting effect it would have on me. It wasn't so much the wording I was to use as much as how this academic requirement gradually altered the way I think. It was a cons...ciousness raising exercise that impacted greatly. If wearing the virtual feminist badge is included as part of my transformation I am happy to do so with it being a badge of honour. No more 'mankind', 'fellow-man,' 'He' referring to God, 'She'll be right' to name a few included. Have a great day and celebrate it well. See more
20.01.2022 Definitely a great decision to further my knowledge of the Enneagram in Sydney this past weekend. Internationally recognised Enneagram teacher and modern day p...ioneer in this work, Peter O'Hanrahan led an intensive workshop on how instincts and subtypes relate to the various Enneagram personality types. Increasingly Coachwell Australia clients are embracing the opportunities presented through being coached with the Enneagram to discover what makes them think, feel and behave in a particular way. More successful relationships, both personal and professional are among the results most valued by clients. Having this additional knowledge will help me take coaching to yet another level and best of all aid people in their development and relationships.
18.01.2022 Oldies do enjoy life.
18.01.2022 This is what the 2018 Gold Rhino Winner had to say about our work with them. Suffice it to say how proud and delighted we are to have been part of this great and continuing story. "I had the pleasure of working with John from Coachwell Australia for just over 12 months. During this time John and I had regular coaching sessions over the phone and via email at times that suited me and my business. John gave me the tools to identify areas of my work and home life that I wante...d to improve upon. He provided me with as much information as I needed to reflect on my practice and analyse the different personalities of my team, which helped me enormously. The thing that sets John apart from other coaches is that he got me to think. By posing the right questions, he challenged me to work out the answers I needed in a safe and supportive manner. John was also available at short notice to talk through emergency situations that cropped up. I always left our conversations feeling empowered and confident in my ability to tackle any task." 12.01.2022 Sydney bound. Watch this space!
10.01.2022 "Why didn't I know this when I was nineteen?" was a comment passed by one of the Dubbo View Club members at their monthly lunch/meeting yesterday. Invited as guest speaker I chose to give a brief description of the enneagram, a means of discovering our true personality and how it impacts on our lives and our relationships. Speaking to 52 women ranging in age from 73 to 96 years was indeed an honour and much fun. It was a sure sign that humour and quick wittedness certainly ...doesn't have to fade with the years. Another commented on gaining an insight into her enneagram type quipped, "So that's why the boys avoided me all those years ago." 02.01.2022 Are they just being teenagers who want to belong? Do they get preyed upon by fanatics? Does that sense of belonging outweigh considering dire consequences? Some things don’t change. Looking through some old text books I came across this and thought it worth sharing ‘out there’. This was published over thirty years ago! A central part of the adolescent experience is peer-group pressure, a potent force that pulls the adolescent to conform to the standards of friends. Because... of adolescents’ exaggerated need for approval, there is a danger that they will sell themselves out and increasingly look to others to tell them what and who they should be. The need for acceptance by one’s peer group is often stronger than the need for self-respect. This can lead to a range of behaviors that cause problems for adolescents... Adolescents tend to be more aware of what the world does to them than of what they do to the world. Thus, they can be highly critical and fault finding. At times they may want to drop out of society, yet at other times they may idealistically strive to reform society. Corey, M.S. & Corey, G. (1982). Groups: Process and Practice (3rd ed) (p. 283).
