23.01.2022 In November 2013 Coal Creek Education Programs worked in conjunction with the Learning Stones Project to create a cultural awareness space at Coal Creek Communi...ty Park and Museum. The Learning Stones project was run by John Murray a Koori Education Officer who said at the time, the project was about creating a place of reflection, a place to identify with culture or just to have some quiet time. VCAL Students from Korumburra Secondary College worked with Coal Creek staff to landscape an area in the park, adding a firepit and totem poles. Guided by local Gunai-Kurnai artist Ronald Edwards the VCAL students assist Primary Students from Poowong Consolidated School to paint the totem poles. A smoking ceremony was conducted by Ronald and the area was officially opened. #learningstones #workingtogether #reconcilliation #southgippsland See more

Is your school building still on its original site? How has it changed since you were there? This week’s treasures from the coal Creek collection celebrates the success this week of Coal Creek’s online interactive education programs being offered to schools live from Coal Creek. The former Kilcunda Road State School No. 3337, originally constructed by J.C. Hick in 1902, and later moved to Coal Creek Community Park and Museum. It is of local significance to South Gippsland Shire, as one of the oldest school buildings in South Gippsland and the only surviving building from the Kilcunda Road district. It is now one of three Heritage listed schools operational at Coal Creek today, including Jeetho State School No. 2690 and Kardella State School No. 3196. 20.01.2022 Following on from our post about medications from the 1880's. The chemist shop at Coal Creek Community Park and Museum, Korumburra is named after Mr Thomas Buzz...a. Thomas was a graduate of the College of Pharmacy. At the age of 21, after doing his training at a chemist in Footscray, he opened his Korumburra shop. Mr Buzza would have used medicines identical to the ones in our collection and even mixed up some of his own remedies! #museums #museumeducation #visitsouthgippsland #victorianhistories #korumburra #coalcreekcommunityparkandmuseum #historyisfun See more

19.01.2022 #treasuresfromthecoalcreekcollection. In celebration of the popularity of Coal Creek’s interactive online education programs, this week’s #treasuresfromthecoalc...reekcollection is focusing on education in our collection. In the turbulent interwar years when many regional families were experiencing economic hardship, many children were not afforded the privilege of full attendance at school. Children as young as ten or eleven years were often required to leave school to seek jobs in mines or mills, or to help work the farm with their family. Linda Davies was awarded this certificate in 1930 for attendance at Jeetho School, and completed the eighth grade in 1930. Jeetho State School No. 2690 is of local historical significance as a representative example of a one room school. It was relocated to the Coal Creek Community Park and Museum in the early 1970s for conservation, and now hosts our online classroom. #treasuresfromthecoalcreekcollection #korumburra #tourism #museum #educationinmuseums #museumsathome #southgippsland #discoversouthgippsland #museums #tourism #vintage #gippsland #gippslandia #exploresouthgippsland #victoria #australia #australiagram_vic #visitsouthgippsland #visitgippsland #visitkorumburra #visitvictoria #historyfacts #education #schooling #jeetho #federation #remotelearning #learningfromhome #education #schoolhouse
