15.01.2022 Finally handed in my (coal) thesis yesterday. A short summary: it questions human relationships with geological matter and used brown coal as a artmedium to investigate the role that coal plays in Latrobe Valley communities with focus on Morwell), It did that through combining socially-engaged, participatory, practice-led artistic research with an ethnographic sensibility to investigate the community's response to living in, and among coal. I wanted to create a dialogue through art and better understand the complex web of changes affecting these communities, who are in transition and impacted by the closure of coal-fired power stations and sweeping changes in power generation.
