24.01.2022 House plants are a great way to bring life and colour to your home but not all plants are compatible with pets. If you’ve recently gotten new plants (or a new p...et), check this list to make sure they aren’t toxic: - Lilies (including peace lily and lily flowers) - Oleander - Ivy - Sago palms - Rubber tree plants - Philodendrons - Lantana

17.01.2022 Heat stress is a risk to all pets, but particularly dogs and those kept in cages, such as rabbits and birds. All pets must have access to shade in a well-ventil...ated area, as well as constant access to cool, fresh water. Dogs should only be exercised in the early morning or evening. If your pets show signs of heat stress, such as open-mouth panting, collapse, or excessive salivating (dogs), contact us immediately. Let’s stay safe this summer. See more

08.01.2022 PLEASE LEAVE THEM IN THE SHOPS Just a little warning regarding the Christmas treat many stores are now starting to stock for dogs at Christmas. Many of thes...e so called treats end up with the dog "enjoying" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas. The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China. The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes. On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde. If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog. Leave them in the shop where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later, then dispatch in the bin! Please be safe with your dogs!

07.01.2022 Found a wandering dog? The first priority is to ensure it is safe for you to approach. If you are not in a position to be able to secure the dog, contact the ...shire in the vicinity to report the location of the dog with a description. The more detail you can provide the better, eg sex, collar colour, size of dog and colour/markings. Once you have safely secured the dog, we recommend the following steps: 1. Photograph the dog and place photo on social media (please ensure you update the original post as necessary). 2. Contact the rangers. 3. If achievable, take the dog to your local vet clinic for a free microchip scan. 4. Should a member of public respond to your social media post, please ask them for evidence of ownership. Photographs, registration etc. If you are uncertain then let the rangers deal with the return of the dog. Sadly there are confirmed reports of stolen dogs being on-sold. We would like to Bust the Myths on rangers, especially during this recent stormy weather resulting in several escaped pets. Rangers do not euthanise rehomable animals Unclaimed dogs are rehomed through rescue groups Microchipped dogs are held for a minimum of 7 days (often longer) When dogs are microchipped (which is the law) they will be returned to the owner directly. Another reason to ensure your pet is microchipped to avoid unnecessary stress and fines The first place many owners contact for their missing pet, is their local shire. Not everyone has access to social media.
