05.01.2022 If youre looking for a beautiful story out of these horrific bushfires this tale of teamwork across the nation may just be what youre looking for The... extra 91 UHF 2-way radios are all on Kangaroo Island tonight and helping keep people safe and connected but not without high drama which forced us to quickly come up with a plan B. It could not possibly have happened without an amazing group of strangers who worked together in a magnificent way at very short notice when the freight company couldnt deliver the radios from Sydney to Kangaroo Island. Tomorrow was going to be too late. Peter and Geoff from the Australian company GME which manufactures the radios put the boxes of 80 radios in their car and raced from Western Sydney to the airport where Virgin Australia finest Nicola and Lyndall were waiting with a luggage trolley and bag tags for the 100kg of freight. Two hours later Conor Bignell loaded the eight boxes of radios into his car and took them to the general aviation terminal where pilot Tenea was waiting. She donated her time, plane and fuel to the cause and by 7.30pm she was on the ground handing the radios to Bradley Jamieson from Jamieson Marine who has been working his heart out on this project for a week. The light aircraft was organised by Bonnie Cesco who is CEO of Platinum Aircraft Charter. There were an extra 11 radios on board the Cessna 172. Nine were donated by Tim Stockman and customers of his awesome store Stockman Electronics in Burra in the mid-north of the state and two from Jack Plugfrom Willunga who generously had them in our office as soon as he heard of the need. Bradley is flat out getting the radios into the hands of the isolated and the endangered. What a magnificent effort. Island people have radios paid for by generous supporters from across the water and delivered for free all the way from Sydney by people who care so much for their fellow Australians in their hour of need. Thanks so much to the givers. All the very best to the receivers. We have your back.
