17.01.2022 Harvest Day Last week we harvested excess stores of honey from these hard working bees. We do this to make sure there is enough room in the hive and to leave enough honey available so there’s always a food source.... It took close to 10 hours made up of visiting different hive sites, safely brushing bees off frames, setting up the honey extractor, whipping out the honey, cleaning all the equipment and returning boxes to the bees. I can’t tell you how amazing it is to watch these bees flourish throughout the year on many different nectar sources. Even seeing the different unique colours of the honey between hive sites. 04.01.2022 Sunflower Therapy I regularly support two incredible brothers to help them access nature, try new things and spend more time outside. They are both on the spectrum and at times it’s hard finding their full engagement. Two months ago I brought along some bee-friendly flower seeds and helped them to transform their backyard with a bee-friendly flower garden. ... It’s been truly heart warming seeing these guys take a big interest in caring for the flowers, which is a combination of sunflowers, nasturtiums, calendula and borage. The flowers are now fully developed and there’s heaps of bees foraging in their backyard, inspiring further curiosities and adding to their whole experience.
