10.01.2022 Viticulture 101. Here is some of our current work load. With the spring sun brings growth and hence bud burst on all of our vines. The photos highlight our Sau...vignon Blanc and the bud shooting around the crown of the vine, which is the area where the 2 arms or canes meet. We want to remove all of the shoots around the crown as it causes shading throughout the crown and thus is a haven for the start of any disease or mildew. Our aim is to produce an open canopy to allow air flow to cool the vine leaves and in case of rain allow the wind to dry out the canopy. This allows us to have a very low spray ratio with only copper and sulphur to be applied and targeted when absolutely necessary. The 3 photos show the buds for removal, removal and the finished aim of what we want to achieve. We will normally do 2 or 3 runs through the vineyard to achieve the result we are after. Any questions please send them through and I hope this sheds a bit of light on one of the many jobs that goes into a bottle of wine!

08.01.2022 We are in a transition in the vineyard and have undertaken to have NO USE of Glysophate. This will be challenging but the effort and hard work will certainly be worth it to get our soils to have a higher organic ratio and come alive. We previously have only applied Glysophate once a year, unlike other vineyards that have multiple applications, we will achieve our goal through hard work. My trusty whipper snipper is getting a thorough workout. ... Happy earth = higher quality.
