24.01.2022 We started building this fireplace (and by we I mean the ‘royal we’... I can’t take any credit for the building, Hubby did an amazing job). Anyway I digress... we started it over a year ago, it’s been a slow and steady burn (boom boom) but we’ve finally finished. Well there’s still some trim to be added and a little piece of timber which goes over that little black dot in the middle to cover the screw. So now that we’re here it’s like I have s...tage fright... on how to decorate this thing? I’ve never really had a proper mantel and whilst I decorated it before it was painted at Christmas time... now it’s the real deal! My first dilemma is what to put above it. Mirror, artwork, something else? From this angle it would appear a mirror would be a no brainer. But I already have several mirrors in relatively close proximity to this space... how many is too many I’m asking all the big questions this evening! What would you hang/ or lean above the mantel? 11.01.2022 Monday Some pottering around today and planting more herbs in containers. So far we have basil, Italian parsley, chives, thyme, spring onions and baby lettuces. 04.01.2022 Christmas mantel... last year our mantel was only just installed and wasn’t painted. So this is my first proper year with a mantel. So much fun to decorate, if you don’t have a mantel... decorate the top of a console table, a buffet or a shelf. It’s easy to create a similar effect. I’ve layered mine with a few different garlands, some beautiful magnolias, mini pinecone picks, fairy lights, gold twigs and finished off with the most beautiful rattan statement bow. 04.01.2022 I love versatile decor, especially when beauty and function come together! If you saw my Insta stories today I showed how I would style this gorgeous umbrella stand three different ways.... Firstly as intended; an umbrella stand inside the front door, stylish and practical for umbrellas Secondly to store extra toilet rolls in the bathroom! Then maybe, just maybe if they’re more accessible someone might actually replace the empty roll! Tell ...me this isn’t just in my house? And Thirdly as seen here; a statement vase for a large arrangement! I added a glass cylinder vase inside to hold the water and added a bunch of foraged foliage from the garden You could also use it outside with mozzie coils, fairy light or candles So many possibilities... What do you think?... How would you use it? I picked up this new piece at my favourite store Zjoosh and I absolutely love it, the lattice cut out detail is so pretty! I’m looking forward to putting it to work around the house. It’s so versatile I think I may even need another one!

I’ve been getting stuff done, but I still haven’t figured out my curtain dilemma... for those that missed it in my stories the other day, l’ll recap... So on my Spring cleaning kick I decided to wash my curtains. The aqua velvet ones in the back there. 01.01.2022 Today was all about Spring cleaning around here I was feeling completely overwhelmed. My house keeping had really gotten away from me, I had that sinking feeling when I looked around. I’m working everyday, we have a full time Uni student at home and Hubby’s working from home. Plus another student at school and two doggies who are forever shedding Mess gets made... and there’s never enough hours in the week to get it all done.
