12.01.2022 H Y D R A T I O N It’s a whopping 38 degrees here today in Port Lincoln so just as hydration is important for us, it is equally important for our plant friends Warmer weather means our watering routines should have increased from once a fortnight to once every 5-7 days as the heat dries everything out much quicker! ... Some tips to help with your watering woes: Give your plants enough of a drink that water leaks from the bottom. Once water leaks from the bottom, allow them to sit and drain any excess water. When watering, ensure you evenly cover the soil rather than watering in just one spot as this helps to keep the moisture even Preferably, water plants from the bottom rather than the top. This helps to prevent root rot, overwatering and keeps the nasty gnats we all hate away as they LOVE wet, soggy soil Place your plants into a tray or a tub with a few inches of water in the bottom. Self watering pots are made for this! Leave for around 10 mins. Depending on the size of your plants, the top soil should now be wet. This is a good indication to take your plants out Do NOT leave them for hours or overnight as this can lead to ROOT ROT watering from the bottom means the roots suck up what they need and the soil will then wick up additional water to maintain a consistent level of moisture in the soil For the lazy waterers don’t be afraid to water your plants in your shower or bath at home as this is a great way to water multiple plants at once Particular plants thrive in humidity so for #calatheas, #ferns, #parlourpalms and even your #Swisscheese, they love a good mist! I personally mist everything but you can give these guys a spritz every 1-2 days on top of their usual watering & they’ll love it If all else fails, our faithful @sustee magic sticks have you covered by doing all the hard work for you!
