24.01.2022 Winter yoga for DIGESTIVE WELLNESS: part 1. During the winter it is easy to move along with our usual routine and then after a while discover that our gut (and overall digestive system) is not digesting our wintertime meals and food as well as it should be. It is really common to overlook our digestive system during the winter and as a result have our overall health compromised. Proper yogic movement during the winter will give the digestive organs an easy massage and enco...urage blood flow to the brain for some instant invigoration. There are some specific yoga postures that can aid digestion, manage pain and increase energy levels. The main principles around this are based on postures that use compression and stretching to massage the organs, stimulating our system with a fresh supply of blood and nutrients to the cells, which aids the process of nourishment and healthy circulation. By bringing yoga for digestion into our day-to-day lives, we can ease our digestive function and calm the body, help to relieve discomfort, rebalance inflammatory conditions, and aid in digestion. But what about after a meal what sort of yoga and postures should you choose ? Yoga poses after dinner are said to help digest food better and empower our bodys digestion and improve health. There are a bunch of micro asanas we can do when it comes to our lower body because after dinner the food is still in our upper and middle torso. Suggestions include: You can do some hand rotations, stretching of fingers and arms, ankle rotation as well. You can also do some swift basic movements of the neck, sit on a chair facing the wall and imagine that there is a ball between your chin and the chest and squeeze the ball as much as you can. This is to stretch the muscles of your back and the neck along the spine. Another movement of the neck involves moving it in all the directions north, south, east and west, and stretch the muscles. But the ultimate pose is :Vajrasana: This is A UNIQUE POSE TO BE DONE AFTER MEALS. Vajrasana is the most beneficial yoga pose after dinner. Experts suggest that any movement which helps in stretching the upper body and abdomen and relaxes your breathing is a good posture after dinner. It is often advised to practice yoga with an empty stomach but this is one such exceptional asana which is more beneficial when practiced after a meal because it promotes digestion. How to do: Sit by folding both the legs and placing them on your hips, now keep your palm on the knees. Keep your spine straight and take deep breaths and concentrate fully on the breath. Stay in the same position for about 5-10 minutes. (see pictures within post for visual examples).

20.01.2022 Science & Philosophy: - Development of the MIND and the ladder of evolution ... Dr. Lloyd Morgan sums it up for us in such a way that all lesser definitions of the word mind are included. He says: "...the word mind may be used in three senses; first, as Mind or Spirit in reference to some Activity, for us God; secondly, as a quality emergent at a high level of evolutionary advance; and thirdly, as a psychical attribute that pervades all natural events in universal correlation." - Morgan, C. Lloyd, Emergent Evolution, page 37. Here we have the idea of the divine purpose, the universal mind, of that human mentality which distinguishes man on the ladder of evolution from the animals, and reference also to that universal psychical consciousness which pervades the animate and the so-called inanimate. It is with mind as a quality emerging at a high level of evolution that we as human beings deal. It is for us a mode or means of contact, receiving information from various sources, and by different means. Through the five senses, information is conveyed, and the man becomes aware of the world of physical phenomena and of psychical life in which he is immersed. Not only that, but the mind registers impressions emanating from other minds, and the thoughts of men (both ancient and modern) are conveyed to him through the medium of reading and the spoken word, through the drama, through pictures and through music. Most of it is simply registered and stored up, finding later expression as memory and anticipation. Moods, emotional reactions, feelings and desires, are also recorded by the mind, whether of a high grade or a low, but with the average person that is all that happens. Very little real thinking follows upon the registering of information, and no clear formulation of thoughts occurs. The clothing of ideas with words which clearly express them is one of the functions of the mind, yet, how few people have ideas or originate really intelligent thoughts? Their minds respond to that which is conveyed to them from the outer world, but have no inherent or self-initiated activities of their own.

Set aside some time for your self and immerse your nervous system in wonderful wintertime sound therapy for the senses as you lay on the ground or sit in a meditation posture (try resting your back up against a wall if you are in a meditation posture for this sound bath.) ... Set the intention of tuning into sensations of contraction in the body, allow for the release and letting go of accumulated stress, tensions, dullness, dysfunctional heaviness in the chest, shoulders neck and then hips. These areas tend to sponge up winter chaos, conflicts, tensions, stresses and strains relating to daily life and lifestyle. Let go of what you ( your mind, emotions and body) are holding on to and allow yourself to re-align with the energy medicine of the season.
