We hope the program helped you to stay connected with Victoria's marine and coastal environments, particularly during this challenging time. This program would not have been possible without the many contributors who have generously shared their knowledge and passion for Victoria's marine environment with us. 17.01.2022 Ocean Grove Coastcare is a recipient of the Coastcare Victoria 2020 Community Grants. Their project ‘Bin the Butt’ is a a pilot project in collaboration with Barwon Coast Committee of Management and the City of Greater Geelong to address over-representation of cigarette butt litter along the Ocean Grove coastline. During litter collection activities, Ocean Grove Coastcare volunteers find high levels of cigarette butts present on the beach. This project combines installatio...n and monitoring of cigarette butt bins, distribution of personal butt bins and community awareness and education aimed at reducing cigarette butts on the beach. Margot Busch from Ocean Grove Coastcare says With this grant enabling the installation of cigarette butt bins, we hope to find several hundred fewer butts at next year's beach clean-up and litter count. We look forward to working with Ocean Grove Coastcare on this project and hopefully seeing a reduction in cigarette butts on the beach!
