25.01.2022 LOCALS HAVE SAY ON CENTRAL COAST HIGHWAY UPGRADE Community feedback is helping to shape plans for a $387 million upgrade of the Central Coast Highway between Bateau Bay and Wamberal that will make trips safer and faster. Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said consultation on the NSW Government’s plan to widen a 3.8 kilometre section of the Central Coast Highway showed how important the project was to the community.... We sought feedback in June and July this year on the initial designs for the proposed upgrade because we want to get this project right and give locals the upgrade they want, Mr Toole said. The proposal will improve travel times and safety by widening the highway to two lanes in both directions between Wamberal and Bateau Bay. About 26,500 motorists use this section of the highway daily and this upgrade will ensure it’s prepared to handle future growth on the Central Coast. Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the community came back with a lot of positive feedback with 223 responses received. Many residents and stakeholders expressed the view this upgrade was long overdue, and agreed that it will help fix the traffic congestion during peak times and the proposed shared pathway will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, Mr Crouch said. The Community Consultation Summary Report outlines all the feedback received and includes responses from Transport for NSW to each issue raised. As part of the Central Coast Highway upgrade, Transport for NSW has awarded a contract to AECOM Australia Pty Ltd to develop the design and environmental assessment of the Tumbi Road intersection, which is expected to be displayed to the community late next year. This intersection is a major pinch point along this section of the highway and will be fast-tracked as part of the overall project, Mr Crouch said. Upgrading the 3.8 kilometre section of Central Coast Highway will be challenging, but it is incredibly important for the community and we are not going to shy away from the hard work. More information about the Central Coast Highway upgrade and the Consultation Summary report can be found at nswroads.work/cch.

21.01.2022 PEST POLITICIANS PRIVATISATION Member for The Entrance, David Mehan is calling on the NSW Government to come clean on its plan to privatise public housing in Bateau Bay instead of blaming termites as the trigger. Mr Mehan had sought advice on one large duplex property in 5/6 Faye Close, Bateau Bay which has been vacant for years. Responding correspondence advised that the properties have been identified for sale due to extensive termite damage.... Answers provided to questions on notice received 19 November 2020 show that within a twelve month period on the Central Coast: - Ten social housing properties have been removed - No additional social housing properties have been constructed or acquired Since 2011, the State Government has sold several properties in the Bateau Bay estate and neglected the maintenance of many more, including those in Faye Close. Blaming termites is a pathetic attempt by the Berejiklian Government to cover their plan to privatise public housing in this state. Mr Mehan stated. This Liberal Government is not interested in providing more affordable or social housing on the Central Coast. I have written to the Minister for Housing, the Hon. Melinda Pavey, requesting the vacant houses in Faye Close be repaired and remain as public housing.

16.01.2022 HEATWAVE ACROSS NEW SOUTH WALES THIS WEEKEND - WHAT THE BUREAU SAYS: An intense November heatwave is expected to affect large parts of the state for the last week of the month and persist into early December as a slow moving and very hot air mass pools over the region. Temperatures are expected to be more typical of a mid-summer heatwave rather than late spring, with the temperature expected to soar into the mid to high 40s across some inland areas over consecutive days. ... Western parts of NSW are expected to scorch, with towns such as Bourke, Wilcannia, Walgett and White Cliffs likely to see at least 5-6 consecutive days of 40+ temperatures and some locations possibly longer. Bourke may reach up to 46 on Sunday and Tuesday. Whilst some may think these temperatures over inland areas are typical, for this time of year they are very unusual (generally occurring in January and February), with only November 2009 and 2014 seeing similar heat. The slopes, ranges and eastern plains (Dubbo, Moree, Tamworth etc) will feel the worst of the heat a little later, with the hottest airmass affecting these regions from the weekend and into early December, with temperatures into the high 30s and low to mid 40s. Further east will be spared the worst heat, with weak southerly changes preventing heat from persisting over consecutive days. #Sydney will see it’s hottest days this weekend reaching the mid 30s in the city, and up to 42 in the west. The hot airmass is expected to break down over the east of the country within the first week of December due to a cold front and an increase of moisture, showers and storms. Heatwaves are classified into three types, based on intensity. Low-intensity heatwaves are more frequent during summer. Most people can cope during these heatwaves. Severe heatwaves are less frequent and are likely to be more challenging for vulnerable people such as the elderly, particularly those with medical conditions. Extreme heatwaves are rare. They are a problem for people who don't take precautions to keep cooleven for people who are healthy. People who work or exercise outdoors are also at greater risk of being affected.

15.01.2022 SALE OF THE CENTURY: Central Coast Council’s sale of several properties will deliver a much-needed boost to Council’s financial position and financial sustainability. The properties which include the Administration building and old Broadwater Hotel in Gosford, and land in Wyong, Warnervale and Jilliby are considered surplus to Council’s current and future needs and will deliver a significant return for Council and the community.... 219B and 219C Albany Street North Gosford, which currently house a community based long day care centre, a dementia centre and the Rumbalara Hostel will be removed from the asset sale. The Administrator promised to also review the rental agreement with the leasee. Administrator Dick Persson AM said tough decisions needed to be made to get the Council finances back on track and a sale of assets was the obvious and sensible place to start. "I understand this may make the community nervous, however we need to take an urgent approach to our financial recovery, Administrator Persson said. I am a big believer in affordable housing and that Council should help deliver it. With that in mind I have taken immediate steps to remove the three lots at 23-25 Ashton Avenue, The Entrance from the asset list for sale so that it can be considered for affordable housing. The rest of the properties are there because there will be buyer interest and the private sector can use this land to create jobs and opportunities for the community at a time when Council cannot." This is not a fire sale. We will be ensuring that we get the best return for these properties, providing a significant boost to our bottom line.

08.01.2022 LOCAL CULTURE SET IN STONE AT LEAGUES CLUB FIELD The NSW Government is investing in Gosford’s proud indigenous history by installing sandstone animal islands based on local site carvings in the $10 million Leagues Club Field regional playspace. Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the sandstone islands, carved from local quarries and based on Bulgandry site carvings, would surround the Aboriginal art poles at the centre of... the playspace. The tidal pool is a standout feature of Leagues Club Field, and as the water rises and falls, these amazing sea creature designs will ‘swim’ in from Brisbane Water to create a dynamic play space for children, Mr Crouch said. At night, the Aboriginal art poles will light up and create a vibrant space for our community to enjoy. The innovative pool will be unique to any other water play space on the Central Coast, and links underneath Central Coast Highway to Brisbane Water to fill and drain with the tide, creating a different play experience for each visit. The NSW Government’s Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation (HCCDC) has partnered with Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council as well as local artists to ensure that Gosford’s Aboriginal culture is inscribed in the park.

05.01.2022 GOSFORD LAB SUPPORTS A COVID SAFE SUMMER: With the summer holidays and tourist season almost upon us, NSW Health Pathology is ramping up its COVID-19 testing capacity, with its Gosford laboratory now testing samples for the region on a newly-installed diagnostic platform. Catherine Wright, NSW Health Pathology’s Microbiology Manager at Gosford, said the lab is now part of a network of 14 specialist laboratories across the state conducting highly specialised COVID-19 diagnosti...c testing. Half of these are located in regional areas to protect all communities across NSW. The laboratory is now analysing patient swabs collected at the COVID-19 clinics, inpatient units and emergency departments at Gosford and Wyong hospitals, which eliminates the need for samples to be sent to our Newcastle lab for testing, Ms Wright said. Being able to test right here in Gosford means faster turnaround times for our local communities. This will be increasingly important as we head into the summer months and see more visitors coming to the region. Fast, accurate testing enables early diagnosis and management of COVID-19 cases, which is vital for the protection of the community and to curb the spread of the virus. In order to receive results as quickly as possible, we encourage people tested at a NSW Health facility or COVID-19 clinic to register for our automated SMS Results Service. Most negative results are delivered in under 24 hours by SMS, Ms Wright said. Positive results are always prioritised and reported immediately to the referring doctor and public health unit. NSW Health Pathology laboratories have provided COVID-19 testing since the start of the pandemic and have now carried out more than 1.8 million COVID-19 tests. This is a significant contribution to the 3.4 million total tests performed across the state to date. Dr Kathryn Taylor, Director of Public Health, Central Coast Local Health District, thanked Central Coast residents for coming forward for testing. Since the outset of the pandemic, we have been able to contain the spread of COVID-19 in our region, but we must remain vigilant, said Dr Taylor. As restrictions continue to ease, it is crucial for everyone to continue to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and to come forward for testing immediately, even if they experience only mild symptoms - like a runny nose or scratchy throat, cough or fever. Testing is quick, free, and easy, and everyone plays an important role in protecting our community. Local COVID-19 testing is available at: Gosford Hospital 75 Holden Street, Gosford, 9am to 5pm on week days and 10am to 4pm on weekends, bookings are encouraged on 4320 5055 however walk-ins are accepted Wyong Hospital Building C (opposite the Health Services Building), 9am to 5pm daily, bookings are encouraged on 4394 9200 however walk-ins are accepted For information on all NSW COVID-19 testing clinics visit: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectio//Pages/clinics.aspx

05.01.2022 SNAP DECISION ON THE SALE OF LAND FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING SALUTED Member for The Entrance, David Mehan has welcomed the decision by Central Coast Council Administrator, Dick Persson AM, to remove land identified as suitable for affordable housing from the list of sites approved for sale at Monday's Council meeting. Mr Mehan wrote to Council directly on learning that 23-25 Ashton Avenue, The Entrance, which had been identified as suitable for affordable housing under Council’s ...Affordable & Social Housing Strategy, was included on a list of proposed assets for sale prepared for Monday’s meeting. There is now less social and public housing on the Central Coast then there was ten years ago. It is pleasing to see this land removed from the list of sites up for sale. I have now written to the NSW Minister for Housing, The Hon Melinda Pavey, asking that she provides all assistance possible to ensure this land is now developed for affordable housing, sooner rather than later.

03.01.2022 PACER’ SHOWS STRONG RESULTS IN FIRST SIX MONTHS Six months on, an innovative Police and mental health partnership on the Central Coast has seen a dramatic reduction in the number of mental health patients being transported by Police to Gosford Hospital Emergency Department. Minister for Mental Health Bronnie Taylor and Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast Adam Crouch visited Gosford Police Station today to see first-hand the success of the Police Ambulance and Clinic...al Early Response (PACER) program, which launched in June. Mr Crouch said PACER is enabling rehabilitation and recovery in the community. Over the past six months, Gosford Hospital has seen a 26% reduction in mental health patients being transferred by Police. There’s also been a 6% drop in involuntary presentations compared to the same period last year, Mr Crouch said. For a relatively short period of time this is an outstanding result, and I’m so pleased that Central Coast people experiencing mental health issues have had more access to alternative pathways to care. Mrs Taylor said six PACER clinicians have been working out of Brisbane Water Police District and Tuggerah Lakes Police District since June, helping Police to manage mental health emergencies. PACER’s collaborative approach means that people on the Central Coast needing urgent mental health support are already getting better, more targeted help, sooner, Mrs Taylor said. Commander of the Brisbane Water Police District, Superintendent Tony Joice has seen positive results through the joint Police-clinician initiative. The real-time availability of clinicians when people may be experiencing an episode has been invaluable. It has resulted in a significant reduction in time taken for police to respond to mental health related incidents, Superintendent Joice said. Compared to last year, we’ve seen a 50% decline in police transportations to hospitals for a mental health assessment.
