Even though the skipper of the distressed vessel was a Marine Assist Supporter and entitled to a complimentary tow, he still gave us a $50 donation, which was much appreciated.

12.01.2022 Some Lessons Here for All Boaties

12.01.2022 Our Wednesday Assist On Wednesday afternoon we got a call from a 5.6 metre vessel with 4 POB near the East Cardinal Mark (The Blinker), asking for assistance as he could not select gears. A Gold crew of Frank Perrone, Lee Campbell and Carol Hutchinson, with David Nielsen as the skipper on Rotary III, towed the vessel back to Mooloolaba.... Thanks Carol for the video.

12.01.2022 Catch of the Day You're the trawler skipper and the net feels heavy. This is going to be a good haul. Well it was - just not what he was expecting. Remember in August when we rescued the two fishermen whose boat sank 20 nautical miles off Mooloolaba? Bet they thought they'd never see it again.... Well not until the trawler's catch of the day was their boat. Hauled up, refloated and brought back to Mooloolaba, it now sits a bit the worse for wear at the Water Police pontoon. What are the odds of that happening?

11.01.2022 A Busy Day for our Radio Operators In addition to doing today's radio shifts, our Radio Operators attended their monthly meeting in our boat shed area. While this was happening our new Radio Operator recruits were completing their Coast Guard Induction course in our upstairs Training Room. Thanks to those who attended both of these events.

11.01.2022 Recently QF6 conducted life raft training at the Kawana Aquatic Centre for new volunteers from QF6, QF4 Caloundra and QF5 Noosa. We had two life rafts to use and this video shows the donated life raft being deployed with the QF5 members using it for part of the training exercise. Hopefully, none ot them will see a life raft deployed in an emergency, but it's vital to know what happens and how to enter a life raft. Just imagine 3 metre seas and 30 knot winds and maybe darkness.

09.01.2022 A Long Night Assist At 0115 this morning our Radio Operator got a call from QF5 Noosa advising that they were towing a 10 metre yacht with engine and steering problems from Double Island Point, but could not cross the Noosa Bar. As the yacht was heading for Mooloolaba, a request was made for us to take over the tow at Noosa and bring the vessel to Mooloolaba. A crew of 5 with Rod Ashlin as skipper set off at 0245 and took over the tow about 5 nautical miles north of Noosa, a...rriving safely back at Mooloolaba at about 0730. Another relieved skipper and safe vessel and another great job by our Gold Crew.

03.01.2022 Use Caution at Our Entrance A good example of why boaties should be aware of Notice to Mariners 295(T) is in the photo taken of the assistance we provided to a yacht when it ran aground coming into Mooloolaba on Friday. It was the second one in two days. When coming in and going out stay well to the western side of the channel as the shoaling may have extended further west from when the last Survey was done on the 21st of August.... It is also a good idea not to exit or enter at or near low tide if you have a boat with a large draft, especially when the low tides are almost at our Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT) for Mooloolaba, which is virtually 0.0 metres.
