23.01.2022 Coast Guard Portland were called at 0800 this morning to assist the Portland Local Ports Manager to move 2 vessels that were in danger of being damaged. A consistent wind of 30 knots with gusts over 35 knots blowing from the east all night, causing a strong surge and waves breaking over the marina. Two sections of the north/south floating marina pontoons had been damaged and were in danger of breaking free. A 17 meter pleasure motor cruiser with stern lines attached to the da...maged pontoon were at risk of serious damage if the pontoons broke away. Coast Guard Portland crew with the help of local yacht owners and Glenelg Shire Local Ports staff needed to move a 12 meter vessel before relocating the 17 meter cruiser away from the damaged pontoon. The task was completed quickly and safely while Local Ports staff stabilized the damaged pontoons. The owners of both vessels involved were not available at the time. #SafetybyallMeans See more

19.01.2022 As we head into the Spring/Summer in the Southern Hemisphere it’s time for Boat Safety. Safety comes in many formsmaking sure your boat is fit for purpose, knowing your local rules and regulations, having the right safety equipment, wearing a lifejacket, trip planning, letting others know where you are going, and staying up to date with the latest safety practices and weather forecasts. #nationalsafeboatingweek2020
14.01.2022 When things go wrong its good to know there are volunteers ready to help. Well done QF6
13.01.2022 Our masked volunteers at Coast Guard Western Port jumped into action this evening, responding to an urgent call for a sinking yacht off Flinders. Fortunately the vessel is now safely alongside at Flinders Pier, everyone is safe and dry. The local CFA (Country Fire Authority) brigade attended to assist pumping out the vessel. Despite Stage Restrictions in place, some parts of Western Port remain in Stage 3 Lockdown where limited boating is allowed. Our crews responding from Stage 4 Lockdown areas applied all the necessary COVID Precautions to keep our crews safe.
13.01.2022 Great work well done by our volunteers

08.01.2022 Coast Guard Portland in the far west of Victoria has been kept busy, albeit sometimes on grim tasks. Last week we were involved in a two day sea search for a missing person south of Portland, and tonight called to an incident in the Portland Harbour. Beyondblue
08.01.2022 As part of Apples iOS 14 release on September 16, they introduced the ability to enable/disable ‘Precise Location’ for certain apps so that they only receive your approximate location. Precise Location should already be enabled for the SafeTrx app by default, and it is important to keep Precise Location enabled for the SafeTrx app to ensure accuracy of your position for search and rescue purposes. We cannot provide an accurate tracking experience if Precise Location is disa...bled as approximate location will not provide the level of detail needed to track your location. We recommend double checking this setting by going to your iPhone Settings> Privacy> Location Services> SafeTrx and making sure that the toggle for Precise Location is switched on. Once switched on, it should remain on unless you actively switch it off. The SafeTrx team is working on adding messaging to the SafeTrx app to inform you if this setting is ever disabled, but in the meantime, we recommend verifying this setting manually after you upgrade to iOS14.
