25.01.2022 As 2020 comes to a close and we step foot into 2021, we all hope for a "better"New Year. 2020 taught us that we can have the best laid plans, think we’ve got it all under control and things can still go completely different to our hopes and expectations! I wish for us all that 2021 will be gentler on us, letting us heal, reset, reignite our dreams and restart bringing them to life. Not only as a better version of ourselves, but a more authentic one, one which is more align...Continue reading

25.01.2022 Yoga is the commitment to your practice with the goal of progress, but no attachment to it. Here you see my imperfect headstand practice, from this evening. What you most likely cannot see, is my connection to my body and breath, the focus of my mind on my breath... and the sense of unity of all three while I slowly grow into the pose, breath by breath. This is what I love so much about yoga: the focussed concentration, the authenticity it requires of me to meet me where I am, and the gentle determination it ignites in me, embraced by a belief that it is possible and that I am already whole. As much as a headstand is a fun and visually appealing thing to practice (mostly because you see your progress so clearly or not ), I am even more passionate about the areas of meditation, mindfulness and yoga philosophy nowadays than purely the Asana. Of course, we need a strong and supple body to feel good, ride well and live well, but there is incredible transformational magic when we go deeper into this holistic practice. And this yoga, is what I am here to share, as a teacher, as a lifelong student and fellow human, a yoga that is for everybody and every body. Namast Anna Ps: Thanks to my beautiful yoga student @janice Stockburger for inspiring me to get back into my handstand practice again! You rock!

25.01.2022 This is the approach I follow in my yoga teaching and Dressage riding/coaching ... a holistic embracing of the being /combination with the aim of creating more connection & wholeness You never know someone’s story from looking at their current challenges and conditions, may it be in the arena or in life, and there is no one size fits all approach. Even though the exercises / asanas I teach may not differ too much from one to another, from the outside, the effects of the...se will vary vastly depending on the current state and past experiences of the individual. I am not a doctor but I believe in the energetic healing that can arise when we clear old blockages, overcome limitations in our body and mind and become more whole by uniting body and mind through the breath. To learn more about the positive effects of yoga on your riding (and life), check out my website, or join me on the mat for a class. Tonight’s class is Yoga for Stress Reduction. 6.30pm-7.30pm In person or online via zoom Namaste Anna

24.01.2022 Ahimsa ~ Non harming Inline with the first Yama from Patanjalis Yoga Sutras; Lets all keep each other safe as we return back into training, on the mat, in the saddle and how we conduct ourselves in public If youre feeling unwell, stay at home and rest.... 22.01.2022 Some days you cant avoid getting caught in the rain... Today was one of those, so Samantha Hawes beautiful boy Olly and I practiced smiling and carrying on anyway. With the footing of the arena a bit slippery we kept it simple: ... developing a better responsiveness to my forward leg aids focussing on simple walk trot transitions with minimal change in the contact, establishing a soft bend throughout the body on big circles and changing from one direction to the other. Did you ride in the rainy weather today? What did you work on? I hope you got to soak yourself warm in a nice hot tub afterwards, if you did Happy Friday! Namast Anna @ Rainbeau Park

21.01.2022 This was the magnificent view at Shelly Beach this morning, where Greg and I had brekky to celebrate our third wedding anniversary. Ive often heard and very much love the comparison of a yoga/ meditation practice and the ocean. How when life gets intense and challenging like a stormy sea, yoga can help us to sit down in the midst of it all and go underneath the surface into the calm.... No matter how wild the water may be on the top, with waves raging and fierce winds, we can always dive down into the calm and quiet waiting underneath and within each of us. Of course, it is a lot harder to do this when we are not an experienced yoga practitioner and dont have an established medication practice. And that is where the practice really is a practice! By practising yoga/meditation every day, we build our foundation skills in the calm & easy days, so that we can reap the benefits and tap into the power of it on the most challenging ones. Ill be releasing a beginners guide to meditation soon. Pm me if youre interested Namast Anna

21.01.2022 Yesterday on our way back from the playground, Alma and I walked through the cemetery... Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a little angel figure on a grave and pointed it out to Alma. Looking at the name on the tombstone, I got a shock ALMA. Written in golden letters was my daughters name. And below GRACIE, Alma’s second name is Grace... It didn’t take my mind very long to go to the place no parent ever wants to go... And after a few moments spent in absolute terror b...y that thought, I consciously made a switch. I moved into a space of endless gratitude and relaxed in the recognition of all the beauty and magic (I have) in (my) life right in this moment Of course, not everything is perfect or as I would, in my ideal world, like things to be, but all in all LIFE IS GOOD! No, actually, LIFE IS FUCKING AMAZING! When asked how would you live your life if you knew you only had 1 week to live, you may shift your priorities, let go of the small stuff, speak up, give that hug, share your feelings, worry less about what others thought, play more, ... My tombstone experience may not last me a lifetime, but for now, it’s been a great reminder of how I want to live my life. In the last 24 hours, I have... ... told my family and animals that I loved them more often ... stressed less about the state of the house ... enjoyed preparing meals for my family ... connected with friends authentically ... enjoyed my work (even more than usual) ... What would you do differently, if you only had a week to live? And what is holding you back from living like that right now? Namasté Anna x

18.01.2022 Thought of the week: The horse does one of two things. He does what he thinks he is supposed to do, or he does what he thinks heneeds to do to survive. Ray Hunt... Something to consider during training this week! How can we build such trust with our horse and make him/her feel so safe that they can spend their attention on how to work with us rather than flipping into fight/flight mode and being focussed on survival. I believe this trust building begins off the horse, and even before we even walk into the stables! Horses are such sensitive beings and immediately pick up on our energy. So, check in with yourself before getting out of your car. How have you been affected emotionally/energetically by your day? What are you carrying into the barn? Even 2 mins of calm breathing can positively impact your nervous system and send a completely different message to your horse when you walk through the door Taking time to brush your horse and make them feel cared for and loved before you jump in the saddle is another way to develop a trusting relationship, off the horse. And in the saddle? There are many different ways how you can make your horse feel safe. One which I believe is important is being dominant in a kind and compassionate way. The horse is a herd animal and its instinct tells it to follow the lead horse. You want to become that lead horse. By kindly, yet with persistently demanding its attention to rest on you. By watching its reaction to your requests and immediately giving it positive or negative feedback on its response. You reaffirm that you are in charge and they can trust you with their survival and well-being. And a loving pat on the neck after your horse has done something right, doesnt only send a positive signal to the horse, but also is a cue to bring them back into their body (which we do in mindfulness exercises with humans, so why not use the same wisdom with your horse?!). What exercises do you practice to build trust with your horse? Namast Anna

14.01.2022 Generally the following benefits can be experienced from a Nadi Shodana breath practice: * Infuses the body with oxygen * Clears and releases toxins * Lowers heart rate and reduces stress and anxiety... * Calms and rejuvenates the nervous system * Helps balance hormones * Restores balance in the left and right hemispheres of the brain, and clears the energetic channels * Supports clear and balanced respiratory channels * Helps to alleviate respiratory allergies that cause hay fever, sneezing, or wheezing Please note: Every yoga practice, asana (postures), pranayama (breathing practices) and meditations can have differing effects for each individual. Remaining connected to your personal experience, curious and compassionate with whatever that experience may be, is the most beneficial way to approach any yoga practice Namast Anna

14.01.2022 Ohh competitions... its been a while. Initially when Covid hit, I didnt mind the shut down of competitions, as I felt it gave me the opportunity to train without needing to cap our training to the current competition level. We could experiment with series changes, without the worry of Ollie trying to add a few extra ones into our Medium level tests, started focussing more on the balance and bend in our pirouettes and developing his understanding of Piaffe & Passage.... It was really interesting to observe in me, how I was able to relax a bit more in my riding without losing my goal orientation or motivation. And how that actually made me better in the saddle! Now that we, here in Australia, are able to see restrictions easing and small competitions hopefully to return in the not too far future, I went back to my last filmed comp tests to get me back into that mindset as well as review and learn. Test riding and video recording are such great tools to add to ones Dressage training which I feel are almost as neglected as improving your position with lunge lessons... Here in my video, these would be the points that I give myself as take aways to continue to improve on: - soft and steady outside rein to make corners and circles smoother - encouraging Ollies nose a bit more out and poll even higher - direct trot off at X after halt, no walk step - Allow my hips to swing more and legs to hang heavy and flat against the horse (no gripping with the knee) - Lengthen spine and broaden chest, relaxing shoulders and elbows to be softer in my contact These are just a few points, mainly on my position but smoothing them out will have an overall positive effect on how I can move with Ollie and apply my aids more effectively, helping us work together with more easy and joy, and hopefully as a result, creating a more correct and harmonious test ride. Id love to see pics/videos of your last test ride, and hear your thoughts on how you can build on that. Tag me in your post for free feedback Namast Anna

12.01.2022 Can’t wait to spend time with Ollie and our friends here again very soon! This facility is so incredible, horse-lovers and non-riders, this event is worth the trip!!! It will be such a treat to be able to indulge in my own riding and competing over 6 days! You’ll find us in the Medium and Advanced classes on the first weekend... Feeling very excited and grateful to step up to Advanced with my big boy

12.01.2022 Not the best quality, but a glimpse into our second ride on Sunday Gosh, how much I love this horse!

12.01.2022 The world needs more people like this 3yr old girl

11.01.2022 Beautiful Boutie Only our third ride together and this young horse is responding so well to the training. With young horses (well, any horse, really!) I find it most important to make sure they understand the go button. I believe, it is the fundamental aid that all work builds upon, to get the horse moving through the body into the contact, to move them off my leg and to train the horses attention to be with me and my aids.... Thank you to Into the west equestrian for the opportunity to train this gorgeous lady.

11.01.2022 Yay!!! Best news after yesterday’s government update and confirming with Louise at No Limits Equine today that she is comfortable with me teaching at her yard, I will be available for lessons on Thursday, 7th January. For your peace of mind, I’ve just had a negative Covid test and am Covid safe accredited. ... Pm me for time slots and to book your spot. Look forward to seeing you soooon! Anna

10.01.2022 Opening my personal tool box to you ... Inspired by an interview I listened to with #drjimloehr, author of Mental Toughness for Athletes, I have started writing short journal entries about every ride with Ollie. In these entries I reflect on the flow of our ride (what we did), how I felt, how Ollie felt and responded to my aids, feedback we got (if it was a lesson) and really thinking about what I learnt during that ride. This may be something my coach said or an insig...ht I gained during my ride. I have been finding that taking the time to reflect back on my rides so consciously is helping me retain insights and learnings from lessons better and also provides the opportunity to me to make mental connections between aspects of our ride, that I may have missed in the moment! There is no real structure to my entries, but I try and add as much details as possible (weather, time of day, anything I noticed about Ollie’s body - for example due for shoeing, ride after 4 days off, Ollie’s temperature,...). As you can see above, I give Ollie a hack out day off after a particular big session, to help his body recover and as a little way to say Thank You to my boy What do you do on a regular basis to keep working towards your riding goals? Namasté, A x

10.01.2022 Having settled back into Sydney life and gotten on top of unpacking and loads of washing, I spent some time today reflecting back on a week living on our sheep farm down in Good Hope... It was such a joy to meet and get to know new people of the local horse community and reconnect with some old ones. Linda and Derek at Walgrove Ranch were the most welcoming hosts to Ollie and I, we felt immediately at home and perfectly cared for. Despite chilly temperatures and some windy ...rainy days, it was great to see riders turn up for their lessons motivated and witness the progress each and every combination made during their session. I was able to conduct a couple of online yoga classes, too, adhering to the current Covid regulations (that are luckily about to ease for yoga classes ), and my family generously left me the most popular space in the house, in-front of the wood fired heater. Its been great to venture out of my Sydney territory and has also made me realise the value of my current set up at Denise Rogan . Purpose built Dressage facilities and a team of professionals and friends around me every day, keeping me honest in improving my own training constantly and also being there for guidance and support when obstacles arise. The strength and genuine wisdom of a support team and teachers is something that I feel is the biggest challenge Australian riders face, especially remotely located riders. And this is the where Covid has been a real eye-opener to me realising the possibility of remote lessons. Even now with restrictions eased for equestrian activities, I still conduct the occasional lesson with my coach @Robert Harrison-Schmeerglatt via Viber, rather than floating Ollie over to his property to save time. If anyone is keen on this as a possibility, pm me for details. On a more personal note, I want to acknowledge what a privilege it is for all of us, to have our two homes. For me to expand my network and business literally coast to country, for Alma to experience the diversity of life on a rural property compared to Sydneys northern beaches and for Greg to have the flexibility to work in his corporate job so remotely and still completely connected. At this point it needs to be said that without the support of Gregs parents we wouldnt have been able to achieve half as much in our time down in Yass. Nancys care for Alma allowed me to jump into the car and go off to teach, allowed Greg Preuss to work in peace and quite. And Robs week of continuous little improvement projects around the house, property and cars, has been such a gift. For now, Im enjoying the slightly warmer temperatures up here in Sydney, but looking forward to seeing my group of riders back in a couple of weeks when we head back down to Yass & Canberra. Namast Anna

10.01.2022 Had a super protocol day with judge Sue Cunningham at the stables yesterday! Incredibly helpful in reviewing our progress and riding through a test under the watchful eyes of a judge. And oh man, did it make a difference! Nothing beats eyes on the ground and a fresh perspective Massive thank you to Sue for your time and feedback, and to Denise Rogan Dressage for organising the day and taking the video ... Ollie, lets get back to work...Onwards!

10.01.2022 On the wrong side of a lot of hard work, as my mentor likes to say... Working on putting all of my ideas about Yoga, Dressage, success and wellbeing onto paper Youll be the first to know when Im ready to launch!... What are you working on right now? Namast Anna

09.01.2022 Word Repost of @thehappinessinstitute

08.01.2022 An insight into my Dressage training routine... Lunging In my lessons, I often recommend lunging the horse as a great way to educate the horse without a rider on top. This short clip is a great little insight into what I am aiming for when lunging my horse:... A relaxed forward thinking horse swinging through the body gently stretching into a soft contact. Whenever I dont have the time for a ride or we had a good couple of rides, I like to mix things up and include a relaxing, stretching body-softening lunge in our training routine. I also lunge when its dangerous riding conditions (very windy), when were coming back into work after a little holiday or when my intuition tells me something is a bit off that day (no joke). Lunging is a great way to observe the horses movement, work on their suppleness, contact, impulsion & collection without the horse having to also consider and balance the weight of a rider in the saddle. There are many different ways and approaches to lunge a horse. Sometimes, I use a Pessoa lunge system other times I use bungee rubber system, today, here at Walgrove Ranch, I didnt bring all the lunge gear we have at home, so I used my reins as side reins. This is not the way, Id normally recommend as first preference, but Ollie is an experienced horse at lunging, so he is a bit more forgiving. (Thanks, Ollie ) I rarely lunge my horses without any gear, as I believe in gymnasticising the horses body during every session asked I want to positively shape & soften their body rather than reinforcing existing (negative) movement patterns. If I just want to play or relax with my horse, or give a Reiki treatment, thats a different story. Currently, I am getting interested to learn more about double lunging and in-hand work, as Ollie is starting with the more collected work and his Piaffe & Passage. So if you have any recommendations on books, trainers, videos... Hit me up, please

04.01.2022 At the end of the day, the horse is a mirror of the rider and the better the rider is sitting (which means the rider is in balance and supple in the saddle, physically and mentally), the better they are able to train their horse and the more horse friendly they are. ~ Christoph Hess Dressage Master, international judge and former director of Dressage training for the German National Federation... excerpt from a recent interview on @horsechats_podcasts

04.01.2022 Tree pose (Vrakasana) helps me come into the present moment and become aware of how balanced I am in myself that day. Theres no hiding in this pose, when Im wobbly, Im wobbly. 03.01.2022 Tonight I am struggling to find the right words and I am feeling overwhelmed by the news about the injustice in the US and more closer to home, in Australia, with our First Nation people. Whatever I say will, in some way, be inadequate and maybe inappropriate, so all I will say is this: Fellow human, I hear you. I see you. I am listening. I acknowledge that I dont know the full scope of your story and that I will never be able to completely relate to your experience of thi...s world due to my privileged background and upbringing... but I am here to listen & learn and make changes in the way I behave. Not matter in which ever way someone is different to you (colour, sex, background, age, education,...) I think we can all make this world a better place by simply being kind, as we just dont know the struggles anyone is going through. To everyone taking kind action right now, Thank You! Continue with the amazing work! If you want to make a contribution, sign petitions, learn, donate & educate, find your tribe and join them, peacefully. Personally, I follow these two ladies for news and inspiration @mamamiaaus for Australia and @glennondoyle for the US. #everylivingbeingmatters #blackouttuesday Image Pinterest

03.01.2022 On days when it is easier to criticise yourself for not being better, please dear one, take a pause. ~ Take a conscious breath. ~ Move into childspose.... ~ Lie down and lift your legs up the wall. ~ Allow the dust of your thoughts, of your emotions of your scattered energy to settle. ~ Find the light sparkle of peace, calmness and love within you You are ok. It will work itself out. Everything is as it is meant to be. You are growing beneath the surface and soon your bloom will again break through the earth. Namast Anna

02.01.2022 When a non-human animal living in the forest is injured, she knows so. She stops searching for something to eat or looking for a mate. She knows, through generations of ancestral knowledge, that its not good for her to do so. She finds a quiet place and just lies down, doing nothing. Non-human animals instinctively know that stopping is the best way to get healed. They dont need a doctor, or a pharmacist.... We human beings used to have this kind of wisdom. But we have lost touch with it. We dont know how to rest anymore. We dont allow the body to rest, release the tension and heal. We rely almost entirely on medication to deal with sickness and pain. Yet, the most effective ways to ease and transform our suffering are already available to us without any prescription and at no financial cost. Im not suggesting that you throw away all of your medications. Some of us do need to use certain medicines. But we can sometimes use them in smaller quantities and to much greater effect when we know how to let our body and mind truly rest. ~ No Mud, No Lotus, Thich Nhat Hanh Over a week ago, I had a bad fall of a clients horse. I dont come off very often (or easily, I like to believe) so it was a bit of a shock, especially as I immediately felt that I had hurt myself. As if destiny had planned it, were having a little holiday in Byron Bay this week, so I am allowing myself to rest and heal, taking time away from the world and turning inwards through quality time with my family and quiet time with myself. And so far the weather up here has been most helpful in this endeavour, too. Feeling super grateful for this time and look forward to returning with batteries charged and a well functioning body. Do you find it hard to push the pause button, too? Do you normally just push on and medicate your way back into your routine? Or do you create the space and allow yourself to rest and heal when you need to? Id love to hear your story. Have a good week ahead, lovelies. Namast Anna

01.01.2022 Something to consider when working your horse

01.01.2022 Additionally to all my beautiful Yoga and Equestrian books, Ive been listening to this one #thebigleapbook on my drives recently. Its a super interesting read about a simple concept that if applied in our everyday life (and riding!) can completely change our level happiness and success. Not a small statement, I know!... In this book, @gay.hendricks states that we all have an upper limit problem. What this means, is that based on beliefs from our childhood, we have set ourselves an internal thermometer for the level of joy, love, success and financial freedom we allow ourselves to achieve. Once we exceeded that thermostat setting (when we become too happy in a relationship, too successful in our profession, make great progress with our horse...) we subconsciously manipulate our level of success/joy/love and do something to sabotage ourselves dropping back into the old familiar zone. It is a bit like the quote we accept the love we think we deserve by Stephen Chbosky. In his book, Gay gives practical tips to, first, become aware of your upper limit setting and then provides a step by step process to release it and move into your zone of genius I LOVED this book and will share more about the process with anyone interested in moving out of their comfort zone, into their zone of genius Comment below if you are ready to shine and Ill pm the info tomorrow (Friday).
