24.01.2022 All roads lead to Cobar Saturday’s final leg of the 2018/19 NSW PRA Picnic Champion Series at Cobar Miners Race Club has attracted a multitude of runners vying... for valuable championship points. No less than seven runners with a genuine chance of making the 12-horse Picnic Championship final at Dubbo Turf Club will contest the meeting with interest certainly surrounding the final few spots. The top seven of Tearful Kitty, Southern Gamble, Getting Ready, Oh What A Thief, Senoritaville, Cryfowl and Windcharm are all but guaranteed of a place in the rich $50,000 final. Rodney Robb’s Rusty Motorbike, who currently sits in ninth position and on 23 points, will look to secure his place with a good finish in the 1700m Cobar Cup. The 10-year-old won the 2018 version with Maddy Wright on board and will look to replicate his success when the dynamic duo team up again for the 2019 edition. In what compliments the feature event, the 1200m Sprint Trophy is the most interesting race with four runners needing points to secure top-12 a finish and a Dubbo berth in September. The 12th placed Another Plan (21 points), 13th placed Gadfly (21 points), 15th placed Late Return (19 points) and 22nd place Collins Street (17 points) will certainly make the race interesting. Collins Street, now trained by Wagga Wagga trainer Chris Heywood, is an interesting runner after returning to racing in good fashion with a fourth at Louth. The nine-year-old looked different horse after a 17-week spell and will strip fitter after the first up run. Love ‘N’ Desire will be another runner of interest, contesting the 1000m Class B Handicap, while another Rodney Robb runner will make their claims with Madison Gardens entered for the 1400m Class B Handicap. There is no doubting the race meeting will have telling consequences on the make up of the top-12; a fitting finale to what has been an interesting NSW PRA picnic series. See more
