23.01.2022 The Cobargo Showground Land Manager, the Yuin Folk Club and the Cobargo Show Society are working together on what we agree is an essential building that all communities in high risk bushfire and disaster-prone areas should have. Cobargo, the region and its wonderful community groups need a safer space that also contributes to the recovery and growth of where we live. This is what communities need if we are to increase resilience to natural disasters. More info as the project develops.

17.01.2022 From Carlin at Anglicare - water refills IBC/Pod water refilling available. If you have lost your house to the fires, have a Pod water tank or IBC as your only water source, and are in need of your tank to be refilled, please call Carlin- the Anglicare Bushfire Recovery Coordinator to chat about help which may be available. We have a bulk water tanker available next Wednesday 2 Dec. Your property will need to be accessible for a water truck and someone will need to be home. This is a limited service, and recognises that many aren’t able to refill their tanks, and are in need of drinking water. Thanks, Carlin Stanford 0490704192

07.01.2022 Renewal Art Project - nice one Art Workshops Cobargo School of Arts 10 & 17 October 10-3 pm Exhibition Spiral Gallery December 29 2020 January 13 2021 ... Recovery Art Project will be FREE to participants and materials are supplied. Art workshops will be held 10 & 17 October 10-3pm. Numbers are limited to 12 each group. Please bring your own lunch. Renewal Art Project is an opportunity for local artists and community members to explore their sense of home, the fragility of our environment & the importance of community. Spiral Gallery Cooperative will host visual art explorative workshops to investigate the significant impact on the small rural community of Cobargo after two catastrophic sequential events NYE wild fires and Covid-19. Veronica OLeary Artist and Teacher will lead the art renewal recovery workshops exploring the disaster through painting and drawing. Veronica survived the Tathra Fires in 2018 and exhibited her paintings based on fire, sea and climate change at the Tacit Gallery Melbourne in 2019. Veronica will lead a community group of Cobargo Quaama area residents to explore the themes of loss, environmental change and separation. In the Bega Valley we have experienced loss caused by raging bushfires 2019-20, the suffering through a severe drought, and anxiety of shutdown and separation from work and family due to Covid 19. Participants will be guided to make drawings using pen and ink techniques. Veronica will provide photographic resources (or you can bring your own) and show people how to work both internal spaces and landscapes, and the interiors and objects, which have taken on significance as we live inside. Participants will use drawing materials and water based paints to build a collage of images on paper to be presented in book form or small paintings to include in an exhibition at Spiral Gallery December 29 January 13 2021. Community artworks focused on Recovery and Renewal can be included in the exhibition contact Gabrielle for more information. Workshops bookings are essential - contact Gabrielle Powell on 0427 806 033 or email your interest [email protected]. Spiral Gallery acknowledges the Australian Red Cross NSW Emergency Services Bushfire Community Recovery Event Grant. thanks Gabrielle Powell

07.01.2022 In a wonderful acknowledgment of the work of so many people in and around Cobargo, the entire community of the Cobargo region has made it to the semifinals of the NSW & ACT Regional Achievement and Community Awards in the Awards Australia Connecting Communities category. Its a recognition that the relief and recovery effort following the New Years Eve bushfires was a true community effort, involving many hundreds of local people determined to help each other through this disaster. We are proud to belong to this community and what a honour to have made it through to the semi-finals.
