23.01.2022 Dear YFC Members, friends and supporters, It’s become clear to us at the Yuin Folk Club that, for the second year in a row, we won’t be able to put on the usual... three day Cobargo Folk Festival. As well as the restrictions placed upon all of us by Covid, many of our organisers and volunteers are still working hard to recover from the effects of the New Year’s Eve bushfires. Those fires have had a direct impact on many of our leadership team and it’s important that they have time to get back to what now passes for normal. As a committee we are continuing to look at some options, restricted though they might be, to bring the joy of music and fun back to our bruised village. Covid makes it virtually impossible to plan anything with a degree of certainty. But stand by for some announcements over coming weeks and months. Peter Logue President Yuin Folk Club Inc.

22.01.2022 The Cobargo Folk Festival and the Yuin Folk Club are thrilled to announce that Lee Kernaghan, the Shane Howard Trio Ami Williamson, The Mammals (NY) and The Wolfe Brothers are headlining COBARGO UNITES! - a bushfire benefit concert for Cobargo and district on 3 May at the Cobargo Showground from 10 am. Tickets now on sale from $45! Tell your family and friends! Share this post!

22.01.2022 Post-bushfires, pre-Covid - the mini Cobargo Folk Festival held at the beautiful Four Winds site in February. Great photos from Ben Marden. Missing our folk festivals...

21.01.2022 EVENT CANCELLED BECAUSE OF CORONAVIRUS RESTRICTIONS

20.01.2022 Sadly, the Yuin Folk Club and Cobargo Folk Festival have had to cancel the Cobargo Unites! benefit scheduled for 3 May because of coronavirus restrictions. Breaks out hearts but we need to make sure we don't contribute to the spread of this insidious virus. Stay safe everyone.

19.01.2022 The Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Committee met on 15 October. The Committee appointed two new members: Carolyn Cole (Yowrie) and Inna Skyrpay (Cobargo) a...nd approved four new projects: Quaama Tennis Club: Quaama Tennis court enhancement $5000 Quaama Tennis Club aims to upgrade the existing tennis courts as a multipurpose sporting space for young and old, including a BBQ area with shelter and additional seating. Funding is contingent on the club raising the totality of the monies required to deliver the project. Stonewave Taiko: Holding the Rhythm $7867 The project will enable purchase of a collection of Taiko drums and provide for their storage to allow the further development and expansion of Taiko drumming teaching in Cobargo. Stonewave's Cobargo drumming class began at the School of Arts in 2018 and has built a group of dedicated players, many new to making music but enthused by the challenge and joy of playing together. Disruptions to the program from the fires and COVID19 have left this group hungry to return. Stonewave is committed to resourcing the class and has started back with COVID safe practices in October. This project will make the classes sustainable and expand taiko drumming within Cobargo and surrounds. The Cobargo Community Library. $3000 This project is a community lending library. The aim of the library is to build local resiliency by providing literature and audio that supports individuals and groups to achieve emotional, physical, mental and spiritual health and wellness. This grant supports the ongoing work to address trauma and other mental and emotional impacts of the fires that continue to affect many members of our community. Back to Country: Healing the Country of Cobargo to Heal People $15,000 This project is about healing the trauma from the drought, fire, flood and Covid that has had a massive impact on Yuin Country. This project will provide an opportunity for people to heal with the land, having a belonging and a responsibility for something other than ourselves, and knowing that if we take care of Country we are taking care of ourselves as a community. The project includes 18 workshops exploring six themes that focus on the importance of observing nature to inform how to take care of Country and heal ourselves as part of Country, plus ceremony and dance. The project will be led by Yuin Elders, Uncle Max Harrison, Aunty Shirley, Uncle Bruce Pascoe, with Back to Country and members of the Yuin Community. The Committee farewelled Greg Holland and thanked him for his contribution to the establishment of the fund and his commitment through these first months of operation. Greg's counsel is greatly appreciated by the team and he will remain as an advisor to the fund committee. Photo shows the new bike track in use at Quaama School - one of the first projects to be funded by the community fund. Thanks to all who have contributed.

16.01.2022 Dear Yuin Folk Club members It's been a difficult time for the arts and festivals like the Cobargo Folk Festival. We are giving a lot of thought about the shap...e of the 2021 festival -- there's so much uncertainty around Covid-19 and it's hard to anticipate what position we, and other festivals will be in by the end of next February. We are also looking at how we might be able to revive, safely, our Yuin Folk Club Concerts. We have been in regular consultation with other festivals and members of the arts community. Locally the Yuin Folk Club and the Cobargo Folk Festival received letters from ALP candidate Kristy McBain, seeking a meeting to introduce herself, learn about out organisation and listen to our ideas about the region. We took the opportunity to speak to her and had a 30 minute phone chat on Sunday. As an apolitical, not for profit, we are happy to talk any of the candidates, but Kristy has been the only one to get in touch with us. We were able to emphasise the vital role of music, art and the creative process in connecting people and communities -- which has been so important following the fires and now with Covid. We talked about the contribution that festivals like ours make to local and regional economies and asked her to support policies that nurture music, art and culture for all, and especially in rural and regional communities. We set out the challenges for the Cobargo Folk Festival (and the festivals and events sector more broadly) following the bushfires and now Covid-19. We also talked about the extremely difficult circumstances for musicians, staging and audio companies, vendors and other businesses, given the massive downturn in the events industry and the need for an appropriate level of govt support. Kristy took on board these issues and more, and said she would feed our concerns and ideas to Tony Burke, the Federal Arts spokesperson for the ALP. Zena Armstrong Director Cobargo Folk Festival

15.01.2022 Here's some heartwarming news about a wonderful donation from one musician to another. Yuin Folk Club, Cobargo

15.01.2022 Exciting news! Judging of the prestigious NSW/ACT Regional Achievement and Community Awards is now complete. Cobargo has made it through as a finalist in not on...e but two categories! The Cobargo Showground Land Manager has been selected as a Finalist in the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment Crown Land Manager Excellence Award. The Community of the Cobargo Region has been selected as a Finalist in the Award Category: Awards Australia Connecting Communities Award. Woohoo! Go Cobargo! Go us! See more

13.01.2022 We are so grateful to all the artists who volunteered to perform at Cobargo Unites!, sadly now cancelled because of coronavirus restrictions. We've put together this Spotify playlist of most of the acts and will post more to this page over time. Musicians are doing it tough at the moment. Spotify doesn't help keep musos afloat sadly - but you can see what was on offer at COBARGO UNITES! and maybe go and download their CDs. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7alWJ2cPrvKYGR55dgjtRi

12.01.2022 Great news about a Cobargo favourite. Well done.

11.01.2022 COBARGO UNITES! CANCELLED BECAUSE OF COVID-19 It's with sadness that the Yuin Folk Club, Cobargo and the Cobargo Folk Festival announce the cancellation of our Cobargo Unites! benefit concert because of coronavirus restrictions on mass gatherings. This benefit was planned for Sunday 3 May at the Cobargo Showground. This is a further blow for Cobargo as it follows the cancellation of the 25th Cobargo Folk Festival this year because of the fires that went through our area on ...New Year's Eve. The 3 May benefit was being staged at minimal cost to the Club and the Festival through the generosity of the musicians and Tri-Point Rigging Services, who were all donating their time and expertise. Cobargo Unites! was a fundraiser that aimed to raise $200,000 for the Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund for the fire-affected communities of Cobargo and district. This event would also have brought many visitors to the Far South Coast, supporting our local businesses and injecting much needed funds into the local economy. Sadly, this is not to be. It’s important that we protect the health of our community and our visitors and not risk increasing public exposure to a virus which may be potentially fatal to some people. When the situation improves, we will look again at options to bring great live music to Cobargo and our region. Many thanks to all the people who rallied round to support Cobargo and district, particularly Tri-Point Rigging Services, Lee Kernaghan and SHANE HOWARD - GOANNA and to all the performers listed on our wonderful poster, created by artist Marcus Piper who also donated his services. So sorry that we couldn't pull this off. It would have been awesome... All tickets will be refunded shortly. If you would still like to donate to help the bushfire recovery efforts in Cobargo and district you can contribute here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/cobargo-community-bushfire-recov and direct to our bank account here: Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund Inc Bendigo Bank BSB: 633 000 Account no: 171 210 016

10.01.2022 Very sad to see the Blue Mountains Music Festival has had to cancel this weekend's event. A tough call from the organisers but so necessary if we are to try and slow this spread of this insidious virus. So many live music events, including the Cobargo Folk Festival, have been cancelled this year, initially because of the fires and now Covid-19. We know how much work goes into preparing a festival and the number of people who work tirelessly to make it happen. We also know how... much money is lost to the community, to local businesses and to performers when festivals can’t go ahead. There are so many flow on effects and a decision to cancel a festival is not taken lightly. As festival organisers, we respect Blue Mountains Music Festival for showing leadership at this time and a sincere concern for public health. All of us from the Cobargo Folk Festival send our support and best wishes to Bob and the BMFF team. Stay safe up there in the mountains and we look forward to seeing the festival come back stronger than ever next year.

10.01.2022 Wonderful community effort. We are proud to be part of it too.

07.01.2022 Startijenn - they still came to Cobargo even though we had to cancel the festival. Legends! Hope to see you all again in happier times. Stay safe! From all at the Cobargo Folk Festival.

06.01.2022 Would love it if friends of the CFF would vote for Cobargo in #NSWACTRACA People's Choice Awards. You can vote once every day until the poll finishes! Cobargo has two finalists: The Cobargo and Region Community and the Cobargo Showground Land Manager. Vote early, vote often!

06.01.2022 Looking forward to seeing SKERRYVORE back at the Cobargo Folk Festival in 2022! Amazing bunch of lads who have kept in touch with us through all our bushfire trials - their concern and support has been so appreciated down here. We'll be ready to party in 2022 for sure!

02.01.2022 The continuing support and generosity from the many friends of the Cobargo Folk Festival has lifted our spirits throughout this year of living dangerously.
