23.01.2022 When HEMS4 Air Ambulance is not available for aeromedical services, there is a backup helicopter to fill in. Tuesday night saw HEMS5 call into Cobden at 10.43PM for a medical transfer. Victoria has a number of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services in operation as per the following Wiki: HEMS 1 based at Essendon Airport. HEMS 2 based at La Trobe Valley Airport. HEMS 3 based at Bendigo Airport.... HEMS 4 based at Warrnambool Airport. HEMS 5 is for primary response and specialist medical retrieval based at Essendon Airport. It shouldnt be too long before the Pick my project helipad is brought into operation.

22.01.2022 The weather has been rough and cold but today gave us a reprieve. It was a beautiful day that saw members of the Hamilton aero club come to Cobden for a flying visit, naturally , and some lunch. We look forward to attending Hamilton aero club in the not too distant future.

22.01.2022 Local Ag operator, Peter Rohan, has been using an Air Tractor AT-802 out of Cobden. The Air Tractor sports a 1350 HP turboprop engine, carries approx 3000 litres in the hopper and has a gross takeoff weight of 7257 Kilograms. Thats pretty heavy!

22.01.2022 This Cessna 182Q was at Cobden over the weekend. The aircraft is registered to a NSWs owner. It was a pleasant day that saw Cessna 150 VH-IRQ drop into Cobden after a flight in the local area in addition to VH-RQN taking in the Grampians. There are still green and golden fields up in the Horsham area so lets hope the crops are good for the farmers sake.

20.01.2022 Read this in conjunction with the video below. The inside wing of a descending turn has a greater angle of attack(AOA.) So, increased AOA, slipping, tight turns, and dihedral all with a low forward speed can cause an aerodynamic stall of the inside wing. Not want you need close to the ground.

20.01.2022 TIF WINNER/S ANNOUNCED Great news, Cobden aero club has made a second TIF available as part of the giveaway. We have had a draw for the Ladies and a draw for the gentlemen. 18.01.2022 HEMS 4 HELIPAD UPDATE - FIRST SOIL TURNED Works have begun on the HEMS 4 emergency helicopter transfer pad at the Cobden airfield with the money from pick my project grant that the local community voted for.

18.01.2022 Aviators from Sunbury and Lillydale Aero Club managed to pop into Cobden today. The iffy weather kept a number of aircraft at their home base but 3 still managed to make it. Hopefully, in the better weather Cobden will be inundated en-mass with aircraft from these 2 airfields. This is the second time representatives from both airports have attended Cobden. Their intention was to go to the Cobden Bakery for lunch. #vhmno #vhdzp #TEXAN 247883

17.01.2022 Back in the late eighties, a number of Cobden people came to Warrnambool for their flying lessons with Staywood Air, later to be known as South West Aviators. It was the suggestion of the instructor of the day that Cobden should form an aero club. That suggestion was ratified in December 1991 with a meeting of aviation enthusiasts agreeing to form what is now the Cobden Aero Club. The man in the middle of the photo is that instructor who suggested Cobden should form an aero ...club, Captain Andrew Hinde. Andrew returned a few weeks ago to catch up with long time friends Kevin Norris and Tony Pies Malone (Pictured,) to name a few. The building in which this photo was taken is the legacy of his suggestion. What started out as an ultralight trailer used as a briefing room and a double decker bus as a clubroom, it has certainly come a long way to the facility it is now. Andrew served as instructor at Warrnambool and Cobden in the 90/91/92 period. He went on to fly Bandeirantes for Port Lincoln Airlines, SAAB 340 for Kendells (Rex?,) out of Sydney, before heading to New Zealand with Jetstar on the A320. Andrew, still with Jetstar, has based himself and his young family out of Ballarat. We live in hope the club will continue for many years to come. Well done Andrew! See more

16.01.2022 The race between the agcat and the west coaster steam train will be broadcast on the Fitz Media Productions Facebook page tomorrow for those interested.

15.01.2022 The video shows examples of aircraft turning to line up with the runway for landing. The tri motor has a gentle angle of bank so no problem. The common denominator in all of these incidents is low airspeed, increased angle of bank causing an increased rate of descent, and an exceeded critical angle on the lower wing. Long finals arent such a bad thing. :-)

15.01.2022 While the state has been in lockdown things have been ticking away at Cobden. Today, I was trying to get a photo of a turbo prop Cessna Conquest coming into Cobden but due to timing was unable to. It did land. Meanwhile, powercor are doing their LIDAR scan of power lines and foliage encroachment again and has based a helicopter at Cobden for the interim. CAE oxford had a twin engine training flight do a precautionary inspection before landing and departing promtly for Warrnambool. The little 150 is registered to Nar Nar Goon. A local twin arrived as I departed. Cobden can be a busy little strip. #caeoxford #vhoxm #powercor

15.01.2022 Thank you to Chris Shilton for helping Cobden Aero Clubs facebook page break the 400 likes barrier.Thank you to Chris Shilton for helping Cobden Aero Clubs facebook page break the 400 likes barrier.

14.01.2022 Just 2 days to go. We need 4 more women to create parity with the men. If there are people you know that would be interested in flying and have not yet entered the draw, let them know. If anyone is having difficulties, phone Bill as per the flyer contact number. The weather looks like being kind to us

13.01.2022 This may be of interest to Aviators. Good topics and nice venue. Go online to book in. Just google Warrnambool Avsafety seminar and it should guide you to the booking site. The event is free.... for the uninitiated.

13.01.2022 Saturdays weather offered a window of opportunity to fly down to Bairnsdale and catch up with a pilot mate. Along the way we were presented with the beautiful rolling patchwork of hills between Latrobe Valley and Leongatha areas. The area is a rich green as it emerges from winter. The ground became noticeably drier once passing Sale all the way to Bairnsdale. Conditions were smooth both ways and the weather was not an issue. Tick! Tick! Tick!

12.01.2022 If there are any aircraft owners who would like to attend the TIF day and add to the atmosphere, we will graciously greet you with open arms.

12.01.2022 FREE TIF UPDATE: Currently, men are entering at a rate of 2 men to 1 woman. We need to see more women entering the free giveaway. Challenge your ability, test your skills, follow the criteria on the flyer and if you are 14 Y.O. + HAVE A GO! The odds are very high that you will win! Oh, make sure you tell your friends that dont have facebook. The draw is 1 week away. The winner will be on the facebook page next Friday night. Stay tuned!

10.01.2022 Returning from Ararat, we were able to get a look at the Salt Creek wind turbine that lost a blade.

08.01.2022 Now there is a surprise! It appears Cobden aero club committee member, Stan Williams , has been incognito as a fighter pilot and managed to get his face on the front cover of an online magazine at the same time. Nice one Stan!

06.01.2022 This is the Registration site: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/avsafety-seminar-warrnamboo

06.01.2022 From a scene reminiscent of Those magnificent men in their flying machines, a bi-plane will be racing the west coaster steam train. Check out Liam Fitzgeralds video.

05.01.2022 Today was the trial introductory flight day held at Cobden airport. There was a little bit of crosswind to contend with but thats Cobden. Many thanks to the people who took part in the day, Monica Heffernan, Darrin Atkins, Will McCosh, Adam Harris, Ken Plummer and last but not least, Lucas Casterson. We hope you all enjoyed the experience and its not too long before we see you again. We must also acknowledge the support and contribution of Brendan Reidy (instructor) and the Colac aero club for helping us out today. Thank you for your support.

05.01.2022 CAE OXFORD specialises in delivering airline pilot training for Australia and the wider Asia-pacific region. Its Melbourne based facility regularly uses Cobden airport as a landing point for student solo and dual navigation training. Today VH-KRR and VH-EPD called in. The new entry/exit point to the runway helps facilitate their arrival and departure minimising impact to other aircraft landing, or, on the runway and wanting to exit to the main apron area.

05.01.2022 A Glasair III flew into Cobden today. The pilot reported figures of 2500 PM rate of climb at 120-130 knots. He plans on 200 kts. The wing tip extensions which you will see outboard of the ailerons give a 100LB weight increase. The pistons are 10:1 compression ratio giving 340 HP at full power. This thing moves! #GlasairIII #fastplane

05.01.2022 This morning, a delegate from the Cobden aero club had a meeting with the Federal minister for Wannon, Mr Dan Tehan, to discuss general aviation and areas of improvement that would stimulate jobs and growth in the sector. Thank you to Mr Tehan for making himself available to us and coming to our humble club to undertake discussions. Aero clubs across Australia should also take up the opportunity to engage their Federal member and to put forth ideas to make this an improving industry. I invite every pilot to share this post and help spread the word. Dan Tehan MP Michael McCormack MP Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Australia Gordon Rich-Phillips MP

02.01.2022 While Peterborough local, Lawson Cumming, is working towards gaining a licenced aircraft maintenance engineer qualification (LAME,) he has acquired a refurbishing project by way of this Monnett Sonerai II taildragger. The engine is a kit build 0 time aerovee 2180cc, 85hp. This aircraft is coming together nicely and I look forward to seeing it flying in our district and beyond in the not too distant future. Good job Lawson.

02.01.2022 This is a "MUST ATTEND" event held by Warrnambool aeroclub. Last year the club put on a generous spread of foods. The event was well patronised by the aviation fraternity.

02.01.2022 This is a scene anybody does not like to see because it signifies someone is unwell or has been hurt in an accident. This is inevitable however. Cobden has a fantastic airstrip that facilitates transfers for victims to medical facilities in Warrnambool, Geelong and Melbourne. HEMS4 will soon be provided with its own dedicated landing pad thanks to the Pick My Project" initiative for which Cobden was successful in winning. The issue with the current site is the HEMS4 helicopter is so big, its tail rotor in this photo is projecting into the splay of the airstrip. The splay is an area that must provide an object free area for another aircraft utilising the runway, in the event something was to go wrong with that aircraft landing or taking off from Cobden, and indeed, any airport.
