20.01.2022 The museum will not be open this weekend due to the lockdown. In the meantime we have another story about the last Milang branch driver, Arthur Creeper. Last mo...nth we had a visitor who was a regular passenger on the railcar. Usually he was the only passenger but on one occasion there was an attractive young lady making the trip. Naturally he started a conversation with her but, to his surprise, he was joined by Arthur who had put a brick on the controls so that the railcar was driving itself to Strathalbyn. See more

20.01.2022 The first passenger train departs East Tanfield station after 147 days! It's really nice to be back operating steam trains again at the world's oldest railway!

18.01.2022 Bagnalll 3023 of 1952 Isaac at Woody Bay. The loco is leaving the railway at the end of the year as the contract there finishes. The owner will be offering the locomotive for sale. Anybody interested please drop me a message or give me a call.

17.01.2022 Thought I had better show some progress on the carriages that I am restoring. Finished 2 out of 3 including sorting out the brakes which kept me at it for a while.

15.01.2022 So sorry but the Cobdogla Irrigation and Steam Museum will not be open during the long weekend in early October. Covid restrictions. However, work does not stop on museum working days...Souvenir Shop doors have been cleaned and re-varnished, window frames had same attention.......thank you busy bees who did this. Committee room, walkway etc are also very very close to completion. Pat on the back for every volunteer involved.

15.01.2022 P'raps this is what is needed for CSM books etc.

14.01.2022 Please watch out as I have been hacked.

13.01.2022 Many people assume that the Milang station has been in its present location since the railway closed in 1970. That is not so. After closure the track was remove...d, the platform was demolished and the station building was sold to a local farmer for use as an outbuilding. However he was unable to get council approval for its use for accommodation so it sat in two local paddocks for twenty years. Then, on 18th May 1991, it was moved on a truck back to its previous location where the volunteers had built new foundations. In one of the attached photos you can see what is now the cafeteria car in the background; its arrival was the first step in the creation of the Milang Railway Museum. See more

13.01.2022 Now that would really be a talking point if we had a tunnel or a bridge like that one.

12.01.2022 One for the Barmera Centenary Crew. 56 Years ago today, on November 23rd, 1964, Donald Campbell's Bluebird K7 set a new Australian Water Speed Record of 216 mph... (347 kmph) on Lake Bonney. Bad weather foiled further attempts to break the World Water Speed Record at Barmera and so the crew shifted to Lake Dumbleyung in W.A. where the record was broken on December 31st, 1964. This film was taken from 'The World Water Speed Record Attempt' by W.D. & H.O. Wills but the original soundtrack had narration over the top. So I've matched other recordings of the K7 into this film. I believe the sound I've used here is a recording from the return run back to Barmera as it matches almost seamlessly to the film as opposed to the first run towards the North end of the Lake. You can also see the old Bonneyline Drive-in Theatre Screen in the background of both runs. It was only two years old at the time of filming. Christine Webster Dorothy Dunk Glenys Badger

11.01.2022 In 1971 this old lady, born in 1890 was still hauling steam passenger trains in NSW Australia. In fact the run from Newcastle to Singleton was the last regular steam hauled passenger in Australia. https://steamtrainstories.com/austra//singleton-passenger/

In the background is John Wolverson who's son, Eric has volunteered on the PS Marion from a child and is now a very well respected Engineer on the Marion. 04.01.2022 We love it when someone walks into the station with a story to tell about the Milang railway. That happened today. Eric was a regular traveller on the branch li...ne to Milang. There were very few passengers so often it was just him and the driver Arthur Creeper. On one occasion there was another passenger; an attractive young lady. Eric naturally started up a conversation and was surprised to be joined by the driver, Arthur Creeper. "Who is driving the train?" they asked. "Nobody" was the answer. Arthur had just left a brick on the dead mans handle to keep the train going! Free train rides and Devonshire Teas are on again tomorrow. See more
